Roll Fever Dreams Roll: Todd Has the Flu Part 1

Last night I dreamt we rehired Bill Curry.  I was also quite certain someone was walking around my apartment for the better of an hour.

He is an established head coach...

You should dream about Stallings coming back
But that might make you have to change your pants

wow...
To think he actually coached in that uniform. He looks like a middle school gym teacher. Creepy.

Not a good coach or recruiter?
You guys are absolute idiots!  Bill Curry did a good job as coach, built and recruited a national championship team that Gene Stallings won with, but was let go early because he didn't beat Auburn, and was not a "Bama Boy".  So frigging what?  His winning % is second ONLY to Bear Bryant(Bryant- .808 and Curry- .722, Stallings- .713).  They are still the Tides top two coaches.  And let me piss you off just a little more. Bill Curry NEVER illegally recruited anyone to get the championship recruits that Stallings won with. Go back and check his recruits, as well as the books on Bear and some of his recruiting practices.  You guys are typical Bama fans that still compare every Bama coach or potential coach to the Bear(who was a great coach), but is dead.

You're just not very bright, are you?
To start with, Curry isn't even in the top five.  Besides Bryant, Wallace Wade's winning pct. was 81.1% in 8 years.  Frank Thomas's winning pct. was 81.2% in 15 years.  Stallings was 81.0 in 7 years.  J.W. Pollard was 78.3% in 1906-09.

As far as winning with Curry's recruits, Stallings owned the SEC west, going to the championship game four out of the first five years of its existence...continuing six and seven years after Curry left.

Finally, most football fans over the age of 18 know that Bill Curry was not "let go" at Bama.  He resigned to take the Kentucky job.  He was not going to be fired, at least not that year.

Next time do your homework and you won't look like such a fool.  OK, so maybe you ride the short bus to classes at the Barn, but jeez, if you can use a computer, you ought to be able to do a little research.

He left us... wasn't ever fired
Remember the sweater he used to wear on the sidelines... what a clown.

I hate when we are on ESPN2 and he just happens to be calling the game... he is so impartial

By the way...
...care to cite those "books" you refer to?  Didn't think so.

by AirHarper on Dec 12, 2006 6:23 PM CST reply actions

OK ....you got me on one technicality.
I was not considering those coaches before Coach Bryant. But if you are going to go back why not consider all.  I mean Otto Wagonhurst(1896) 2-1; Allen McCants(1897) 1-0; and W A Martin(1899)3-1. Their winning % were .66666(.667), 1.0000(1.00), and .75000(.750) respectively. You should also remember that a tie does not count as a win when figuring winning percentages.  That's not "New Math", that's more like "Wishful Math".  The full records & percentages are as follows of those coaches we have mentioned:

Bear Bryant:     (232-46-9)   .80836 = .808
Wade Wallace:    ( 61-13-3)   .79220 = .792
Frank Thomas:    (115-24-7)   .78767 = .788
Bill Curry:      ( 26-10-0)   .72222 = .722
Gene Stallings:  ( 62-25-0)   .71264 = .713
J W H Pollard:   ( 24- 4-5)   .70000 = .700

by russellc on Dec 13, 2006 11:01 AM CST reply actions

Duhhh....
...actually a tie counts as .5 of a win, in case you weren't aware.  What on earth made you think I counted the tie as a win?  Since you probably ride the short bus to school, let me walk you through the math. Stallings was 70-16-1.  Divide 70.5 by 87 and you get 81.0.  I know it's complicated, but  you can use your calculator if you can't do it with pencil and paper.

You obviously are counting those forfeited wins as losses for Stallings.  We don't.  Antonio Langham was not illegally recruited (actually, he was recruited by Curry).  He signed an agreement with an agent, something beyond Stallings' control, and when Stallings found out, he suspended him.  We're talking about who the better coach is, so the forfeits are irrelevant.

Of course morons don't want to consider the coaches before Bryant, because it shoots down the whole theory about the Bear's shadow.  The reality is that Wade and Thomas were far more successful than anyone whoever coached at the Barn.

And you still haven't explained to me how Curry was fired.

You've already proven who the fool is in this discussion.  What are you anyway, like 19 years old?  You're making this way to easy.  Like I said, you're just not very bright, are you?

And if your whole point is to come here...
...and "piss us off" as you said, calling us "idiots" right off the bat, you picked the wrong thread and the wrong site.  If you plan on sticking around, you better have a VERY thick skin.  Not much tolerance for utter stupidity here.

Thick Skin?
Let's see.....who is spending time sending me not 1, but several replies every evening so far. Talk about thin skin.....you are definitely tore up...Ha Ha!  But on to better things.  The book came out in the mid 90's while I was living in central Alabama, working with a former employee (and good friend of the family), of Coach Bryant. This person brought the attention of the book to me, and told me there were things that went on just like at every other university, but Coach Bryant had such clout, that the NCAA would not touch him.  In fact when a Committee on Infractions representative from the NCAA came on campus while this person was employed, and in Coach Bryant's office, they watched as he threw the gentleman out, and told him not to come back on his campus again, and they didn't.  I then verified her comments with several friends and former players(one of which was drafted in the pros) of Coach Bryant's and they verified the things some of the same things.  The player drafted in the pros personally received enough cash while at Bama that he could have paid for my college.  He also has never been mentioned in any investigation.  He kept his mouth shut. And:
#1 I don't name names
#2 You can find the book just like I did.
#3 I did not count the ties, because a tie IS NOT a win, I believe Bear put it best, "it's like kissing your sister."
