Postcard Friday: Las Vegas, Nevada

This is Week 2 of the CJ Postcard-a-thon from her cross country trip.
Week 1: Carlsbad, CA

I haven't been to Las Vegas. I really haven't had much of a desire to go either. I'm vaguely interested in it as a spectacle, but I'm not really into what's on offer out there. It's just not my thing. There are so many other places I'd rather go with what limited vacation time I have. As far as casinos go, there are tons of those nearby in Mississippi. Mississippi may not be on par with Vegas concerning neon lights per capita, but I think I can live with that. I have a few friends that are really into going to casinos and even they said they tired of Vegas after 24 hours or so. I'll check it out when I go see UNLV play as part of the ULTIMATE FOOTBALL PROJECT.

Also, I think I'll take this opportunity to mention that the phrase "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" is utterly and completely false (though it is a brilliant bit of marketing.) Every time someone goes to Las Vegas, they tell you every sordid detail of their trip the first time the chance arises.

Anyway...huge rant...CJ didn't even go to Vegas, she went through Laughlin.

Vegas, Baby, VEGAS!
Like you, I'd never had any particular desire to go to Vegas, but like you said I thought "the spectacle" would be okay.

It is quite spectacular.  People who don't dig Vegas would likely read that and be like "what an easily entertained buffoon" or something, but it's a coll place.  The whole Vegas experience is very surreal, what with everything lit up and enormous.

Even the stuff you've seen a million times in pictures is very cool; I had a feeling of "I've seen this crap in pictures a million times, it can't be that much cooler in person," but much like the Eiffel Tower, it's cool.

Now, I was only in Vegas for four days, and I bet it would've gotten boring/lame quickly after that.  Also, I was there for a conference and I don't necessarily think a Vegas trip (from the Southeast, anyways) would be worth the money if you don't have a particular reason to go.  That said, if you have a good excuse to go to Vegas, do it.

"Do you think we'll get there by midnight?"
"Baby, we're going to be up five hundy by midnight!  Vegas baby! Vegas!"
"Vegaaaaaas!"

Perhaps I would have a similar experience
Miami never appealed to me either, but I wound up having a reason to be there and absolutely loved it.
