I hope LSU (and the rest of the SEC) gets creamed!

When watching other college football games (Bama not playing), certain factors determine who I pull for:

  • 'I've always kind of liked that team.' Most Bama fans that I know like Penn State.
  • 'I can't stand that team!'. Ex: I'm for whoever's playing Notre Dame.
  • The underdog  (Boise St v Oklahoma last year)
  • Personal vendetta. "Ha! Take THAT, Fran!"
  • The exception to all other factors: How will this affect Alabama?
Who cares if the Big 10 or any other conference wins more bowl games than the SEC?  Alabama must compete head to head with SEC teams not only in games, but in perception, which is directly related to recruiting.  How does Florida winning the NC and watching confetti rain down on Urban Meyer help us? It doesn't.  But it gives UF free publicity for the rest of the year. Listening to Bama fans and other SEC fans trying to cling to UF's NC last year just because they're in the SEC was pathetic.

Don't fall for conference dominance crap! The teams that are playing against the SEC are our allies.  Clemson over AU (easy to do) Wisconsin over Fill Full-mer (likewise), Mizzou over Arky (what's up with them, anyway?).  See how easy it is?  Michigan over Fla (doesn't anyone else want to see someone put a Bennett-type hit on Tebow?  OSU over LSU (does anyone REALLY want to see LSU win this game? WHY??)

Exceptions: I believe Kentucky beating FSU would actually be better for Bama recruiting-wise. Plus, it justifies me pulling for UK in this game! Also, unless my gut tells me otherwise during the game, it wouldn't hurt my feelings to see UGA stomp a mudhole in Hawaii, a southern thang, I guess.

If you want to pull for the SEC, go ahead, but if LSU wins don't cling to their SEC coattails!

Umm, while I respect your opinion
I think that was kinda dissappointing to hear from a Bama fan.  Sure, I don't like UT or LSU, but I would rather they win than hear about the SEC being overrated.  If you want to be the best, as we do, you have to play with and beat the best.  I will pull for the SEC, as this is the league we play.  I hope we win every game.

Not to flame or anything, but your post comes across like you are an Auburn fan trying to stir a pot or make us look bad.  I am sure that is not the case, but just giving constructive criticism ;)

"FAILURE" - When your best just isn't good enough

I know my opinion sounds bad
on 'paper' as opposed to if we were discussing it face to face but I can't help but think that an uncommitted player who has us and another SEC team on his short list may be swayed by an impressive win by the other team in a bigger bowl (most notably LSU).  The LAST thing I want any recruit to see six weeks before signing day is Miles and LSU hoisting the crystal football while confetti and balloons fall all around!

BTW, I'm definitely not an AU fan, I know my opinion isn't a popular one and I appreciate your opinion as well :)  ROLL TIDE ROLL!

I hope
that the SEC has a winning record. I don't care if Auburn or Tennessee or any other team wins or loses because we have already had our turn against them. The only SEC team I actually want to lose is LSU, but if they win I won't be upset.

USC
My most hated team now is definately USC.  I hope they lose every game.  I would have to say I do respect Penn State.  I want the SEC to win all of its bowl games.  Nothing pisses me off more that to listen to same jackass on ESPN talk about the PAC-10 being the best football conference.  Congratulations to MSU.  We all have to respect what Croom has done with limited talent.  Even if you don't respect what they have done on the field, at least they don't dance around and act like a bunch of thugs anymore.  That team is truly a reflection of their coach.

I hate USC too
Yesterday I was on a shuttle to take me to the ski lodge I am staying in, and there was a girl who currently attends Southern California on the shuttle too. I overheard her talking to another guy who attends Georgia, and she was upset about the "crappy" BCS bowl USC is in. All I could think about is how much I would love for Alabama to be in that game. USC fans can't be satisfied, and I can't wait until their dominance ends. The Rose Bowl is a great game, and USC should be happy with it.

I somewhat agree.
I definitely don't think it helps Bama in head-to-head recruiting if the teams that they are recruiting against are having tremendous success. Therefore, I will root for other SEC and regional schools to lose if I think it will help Alabama improve its ranking or recruiting.

However, I don't want the other SEC schools to get creamed.  Rather, I prefer if the other conference schools have measured success (i.e., making a good bowl but losing close).  I certainly don't want the SEC's reputaton to fall behing the other conferences.  That will surely hurt recruiting.  But it is not especially important that the SEC be seen as much better than the other conferences.  A little better is probably optimum.  That way, the on-field competition in the conference is not impossibly difficult, but is good enough to give the conference a recruiting advantage as a whole.

I wish I'd said that!
'Creamed' is probably a little strong. I originally intended that for just LSU but threw the rest of the league in as an afterthought. I still hope OSU handles LSU pretty well because I'd like to see them and their fans brought down a notch or two.

It's good to see that you understand the point I was trying to make, thanks for making it a little more palatable!
