Rivalry
Counting the Alabama-Auburn as the absolute #1 college football rivalry in America (as if anyone could really say the Iron Bowl isn't the greatest) , what do y'all think is the next best? My vote goes to Army-Navy eventhough my Cadets haven't beaten the Middies since the Tide last whooped the Barners. tOSU and MIchigan? ND and USC? Just curious to see everyone else's opinions on this....

I
like the ones that have sprung up recently, like LSU vs. Barn, Georgia vs. UF. Its hard to call them “new” since they’ve played each other a million times but the stakes have been extremely high in those games the last few years. As for more traditional ones, I’ve always liked watching the Florida schools getting it on so I hope FSU and tU come back.

I dont get
I don’t get all the Army Navy love. Both teams are usually terrible, it’s like Harvard / Princeton rivalry or something from such a bi gone era that’s its sort of nostalgic but not really relevant.
I like the OK/Tex rivalry, because both teams play hardnosed football. Ga/FL is right there too.
I'm in no condition to drive...wait! I shouldn't listen to myself, I'm drunk.

In the SEC
I like GA-FL and GA-AUB. AL-TN is always intense, and my personal favorite next to the iron bowl.
Nationwide, Army-Navy is a good and entertaining throwback to the way the game used to be played, and therefore is fun to watch. For about 20 years FSU-Miami was a great rivalry (who remembers how many ended with FSU wide-right?), but both teams have fallen on hard times lately. TX and TX A&M is generally a very heated barnburner.

I
used to LOVE UF vs FSU during the Spurrier era. Man those were great. Especially liked the ’96 Sugar Bowl when they played for a NC. I just have such fond memories of those games being on the same day as the Iron Bowl, they used to a “Rivalry Saturday” thing at the end of the year and it would always be Bama vs. AU and FSU vs UF, it was great.

The reason Army-Navy...
gets respect is simply because the records don’t matter. Being at Army, I can say that the Navy game is THE one game that really matters. The Cadets and Midshipman play for more than just football, they play for their respective Services. The pagentry of the game is one to experience…seeing all 8,000 students of both academies march through the streets of Philly is exciting to watch. The rivalry is also unique because after the game is over, they’re all on the same side.

Iron Bowl
I love the Iron Bowl. But the one that seems to get more national attention is Ohio State vs Michigan. (Not that it’s relevant this year) I also like the Bama-Tenn game. Any game known as “The Third Saturday in October” has to be big. And of course, since the Frenchies down in Loozianna hate us for having the best coach in the world, that’s a nice little rivalry:)

Last year, I had the pleasure of attending both the Iron Bowl and Army-Navy on consecutive Saturdays. It is almost impossible to compare the two. They are both amazing events for their own reasons. I’ve been caught in a limbo for the last 6 years, with Navy beating Army for the same number of consecutive times the Auburn has beat Bama. As a Midshipman at Navy, I would definitely trade a Navy loss for a Bama win.

This topic is discussed on RBR every month or so
and we never agree.
IMO, Bama v. UT is the best. Claiming AU as our major rival is giving AU too much credit. If UT gets a new coach as they will as soon as Fulmers contract is up (his buyout is too high) they will likely catapult back to the top of the SEC east and we will of course sit atop the SEC west. The SEC divisions have no doubt changed the rivarly of Bama fans more than anything else.
I wouldn't piss off the boys from Alabama . . .

I realize of course
many RBR folks do not even remember a 10 team SEC with no divisions. Before 1992, our rival was UT and AU was UGA.

What????
I don’t think that’s true. Van Tiffin’s not a legend for kicking a game winning field goal against UT. Snake’s not a legend for running for a game winning touchdown in the rain against UT. The Alabama-UT game didn’t have to be called off for 50 years due to too much violence, and get resolved with the burying of a hatchet. No game more polarizes an entire state than this one. Also, it’s not like we stopped playing UT every year after 1992, nor Auburn with Georgia. Alabama-Tennessee is a big game, but only in the same way Georgia Tech is important to Georgia, or Florida State is with Florida, but Florida-Georgia is both fanbases biggest rivalry. Tennessee wishes they had a big rivalry with someone other than Vanderbilt.

Absolutely agree with Bobby...
I’ve always intensely disliked UcheaT, but it became hatred because of snitch Phat Phil. I was BORN hating the Barn since I’m from a legacy family. No game is talked about year round like the result of the Iron Bowl. It does not matter what the final record of each team is at the end of the season. A successful season means beating those assholes. Many might disagree, but I will give up the SEC championship and/or National Championship this year to beat them. We have not done shit until that happens.

LSU-Auburn in top 3
Every year that game is a down to the wire, headknocking classic.
In terms of star wattage, OU-Texas is way up there, but I’ll be damned if I can tell you the last time it produced an all-time, back-and-forth classic. Last year was the first close game in years, but it wasn’t all that memorable. And honestly, other than that 2006 game, Ohio State-Michigan is usually off my TV by the mid 2nd quarter.
Most underrated rivalry might be BYU-Utah. They call it the HOLY WAR for god’s sake! Anyone up for the Jihad Bowl?

I think
We are in the beginnings of an up and coming huge rivavlry LSU vs Bama
However if you all remember I ran a little poll here last year about your most hated bama rival. I think we have a new hated foe arrizing in LSU. Used to be we were there most hated but we really didnt pay them no mind cause they were never really a threat to Bama. It was always Barn, Tenn and back in the day the Ramblin Wreck of Georgia Tech who I wish we would play more often. Now with the rising of LSU and the CNS thing it takes on a whole new visciousness. So it used to be the Barn, Vols , LSU now its Barn, LSU , Vols for me.

The only reason...
…I want to beat LSU more than UT this year is because we haven’t won that game in so long (plus, the whole asshat thing). However, if we lose a couple to the Viles, that will certainly change, because, as a good Bama fan, I hate UT. I don’t hate LSU, I just hate not having beaten them in so long, and their coach is a turd with a big hat.
I love to dismiss Auburn as much as the next guy, but the game formerly known as ‘Iron Bowl’ is the game —the only game. It is the greatest rivalry in all of sport. This did not begin with ‘the streak’. It has always been. They didn’t discontinue the UT game for several decades. The Alabama-Auburn game is the game that defines each class of players at each school. It is the one that gets coaches fired or makes them legends. It is the only reason Tuberville has his current job, and it is the main reason that Mike Shula, Bill Curry, and ‘Ears’ Whitworth were short for the Capstone.
As far as the #2 rivalry, for me it’s whoever Bama is playing next. Next, it’s whoever Auburn’s playing (you know, they’re always playing either Bama or my second-favorite team). However, in terms of real rivalries, I have to give the nod to OSU-Michigan. Like the ‘Iron Bowl’, it gets coaches fired or worshipped. There aren’t a lot of rivalries that fit that bill. Hell, Mac Brown has had his ass whipped by OU so many times it hardly seems to matter anymore. And no Bama coach has ever been fired for losing to UT. Plus OSU and Michigan do hate each other and hit each other hard, which is nice.

Oh yeah...
…and I went to the Harvard-Yale game once. The football was not good, but it was hard fought, and the atmosphere was electric. I especially liked the Yale student body start-of-the-4th-quarter tradition of stripping off all their clothes in the freezing cold. It reminds me of a quote from Slapshot, which I will not repeat here since bamavicki would scold me.
