Question

Does this mean that Cody Burns will be the ordained one from here on out for the Barn. The other guy was a Tony Franklin guy right he came there because of previous relationship with Tony. I think this will hurt them even more because Cody is not supposed to be the classic drop back guy. In a run first play action pass type offense dont you need a pocket  type passer. Wait we have been doing pretty good this year with substandard QB play in some games. By running and playing good defense. Look out guys the Barn could be better for this move than it at first appeared. Still think it was a classless move though

I think...

If I remember correctly, I read an article a day or so ago that said — though it was still a competition — Todd was still the starter and will be the starter until something changes.

As for the type of quarterback needed, yes you generally want a classic drop-back passer to take full advantage of all of the playaction fakes. To be sure, it’s not necessarily a bad thing to have a very mobile guy like Burns because then you can get the quarterback to the edge on bootlegs and rollouts to take advantage of the mobility, but even so you clearly need someone who can stretch the field vertically and throw the football down the field. If you have a heavy run-based offense and cannot stretch the field vertically, everything gets so compacted and you consistently find yourself running into eight and nine man fronts.

As for us, we have had very good quarterback play at times this year, but even so that has been the result of us absolutely dominating opponents in the trenches and by giving Wilson some relatively easy throws. Auburn, though, doesn’t have near the line we do, nor the tailbacks, and we are better at wide receiver too. Moreover, though Wilson is probably a fairly average passer, he’s better than what you’ll find with either Burns or Todd, so all of that is a bit like comparing apples and oranges.

I don't know...

…if I agree about Auburn’s tailbacks. Put those kids behind our line and see how they look.

Of course, I hope you’re right.
