Yahoo! Sports is reporting that Bowden is out at Clemson. I can't find anything other than the blurb on their main page, but I'm sure plenty will be coming out the rest of the day.

Well...
I’ve said it a million times… high expectations don’t do a damn thing but get coaches fired.
Your fans expect you to contend for a national title? Well, you had damn well better do just that. And if not…

Expectations.
I very much view Clemson and TAMU as two sides of the same coin. Nice teams, solid regional teams, never going to be world beaters (aside aberration years), never going to figure prominently into the national scene.
There are some expectations that naturally come with the job and/or history (UA, ND, Texas, Nebr, Mich, etc). And then there are others that are just delusional. Clemson certainly falls into that category. Perhaps their fans, with the same sanguine nature of ’Cock fans, should be realistic and expect a nice baseline of 7-9 wins per. Good seasons, not great. Just like history suggests.
That said, Tommy was DREADFUL and almost anyone will be an upgrade.

I wonder if he'll give CNS another phone call, asking for advice?

Shame...
I don’t think Clemson was headed to a bad year. I guess that outsidethelines said it right above, it’s all about expectations.
I don’t think that whomever they get to replace Bowden will turn the school around. I could be wrong, but I would be suprised if I am. Clemson lost to 3 teams with a winning record, and other than their loss to Bama (#2 in the country now) their losses were for a combined 8 points. Certainly not world beaters, but they really aren’t having a terrible season so far.
Ah well.

Did CNS initiate the downfall
From two angles. 1) we beat the hell out of Clemson. Sure thats just one game, but the way we beat them showed Clemson was not ready and they never recovered. You never know what the record of Clemson would be if they had won that game against us. Maybe they would be unbeaten. and 2) other schools are have now got to be saying, damn, that Nick Saban turned the program in just his second year. So the crappy rebuilding yrs or fear of them that often make fans and admins to want to keep a coach have now gone out the window.
I wouldn't piss off the boys from Alabama . . .

Why are all these coaches getting fired mid-season?
That makes no sense to me. Their performance may not be great, but it just seems like it would badly shake up a team to lose a coach (especially a head coach) mid-season. Anyone got an answer???

it gives a school a head start on a new coach they may have had their eye on or discussions with.

I mean, seriously...
you think Petrino WANTED to be at Arkansas? They were both available at the same time. When a guy like Lane Kiffin is available they want to start the pursuit before someone else gets to him first.

When game announcers are pointing out how "lifeless" your team is its not good.
Bowden looked whipped from half time of the Alabama game and his team played like it. In the Alabama game, Herbstreit was saying they didn’t have any emotion and announcers kept making the same observations in the Wake game this week. When people on the internet are running comparisons of Clemson to PeeWee Herman because of how soft they are, the end is near.
Bowden strikes me as the kind of guy who didn’t really have the aptitude to be a coach but went into coaching because it was the easy path because of his dad. Probably better he does something else — he has plenty of money now.
I didn’t really like it when Bowden cynically used the Alabama job opening to get a raise back about 6 years ago. And don’t forget that Terry Don Phillips was on the appeals committee when UA tried to get the Memphis sanctions adjusted back to something fair after the “death penalty” guy had his 15 minutes of fun — Phillips just laughed like the rest of the wimps on the committee and didn’t do the “right thing.” It is safe to say that today’s action was a direct (and almost inevitable) result of Saban and the Tide humiliating Bowden (and Phillips) on national TV. What’s that old saying about “karma?”

I only caught a little bit of the Wake game.
Missed that — that was even nastier than the parts I heard. Bowden looked like he had given up on the sideline.

oops
coach. But, does the ACC really want another slogfest guy in the league? BJ is a tremendous pick up, but I really get the feeling they’ll go for someone younger. And, NO, NO and HELL NO it won’t be Lane Kiffin. They need ties to the SC/GA area for recruting: Kiffin would be recruiting blind for 2-3 years.

I agre about Kiffin
I was just using him as an example of a hot name becoming available and schools needing a bump going after them. Kiffin will more than likely stay in the Pac-10 area; maybe a Washington or Arizona?

Breaking News
The Barners have gased there jet for a quick trip to South Carolina. The question still remains which pos will Bowden take HC or OC. The barn is making a quick move in hopes of bringing back the success of the Bowdens to the plains.
Auburn fans are like slinkys... not really good for anything but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

Coach Bowden...
won’t be able to get another job in the country besides as an assistant…maybe!
Pretty cool that Dabo is the interim, he was my coach at Alabama Football Camp ’98 for receivers. Great guy that Dabo, I hope he makes the best of this opportunity

Good read here
ESPN has a pretty good article on what happened over at Clemson this year. Some pretty telling stuff like…
“It’s what he deserved,” Harper said. “Dabo Swinney is a fine man and will do an excellent job.”
Later Monday, Harper expanded on his comments, explaining that Bowden “tried to motivate us but guys were off the bandwagon. There were things I disagreed with and that my teammates disagreed with. I didn’t appreciate it when he would say some off-the-wall things about me to the media. I guess one thing I can say is he gave me an opportunity to come to Clemson and play.”
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3641028</blockquote>
When stuff like this is going on, a change is a must.
I bet some stuff like this going on in Alabama’s locker room over the last 10 years.

Kiffin
A friend who is a Clemson alum and pretty close to the situation told me that Kiffin is in and that it was settled before Bowden was dumped. I don’t vouch for the news, I only report it. Remember when Boi from Troy was salivating over the prospecy of Kiffin coming to Bama 2 years ago? Thank you, but no.
