Bama vs. Auburn: A Lesson In Angst

Auburn's recent descent into madness got me thinking how similar in shape and form their shame spiral is to Bama's four-game slide last year.  Granted, AU's lackluster win against Tennessee interrupts what would be a perfectly symmetrical quartet of despair, but the similarities are eerie nonetheless.

Bama: Loses to LSU at home despite leading late in the game.
Auburn: Loses to LSU at home despite leading late in the game.

Bama: Loses heartbreaker to traditional SEC doormat (MSU) after leading at halftime.  Offensive issues gnaw at fanbase.
Auburn: Loses heartbreaker to traditional SEC doormat (Vandy) after leading at halftime.  Offensive issues gnaw at fanbase.

Bama: Loses game to Sun Belt team.  Fanbase out for blood.
Auburn: Loses coach from Sun Belt team.  Fanbase out for blood.

Bama: Loses game with intense personal connection (Iron Bowl).  Fanbase enters full-blown existential crisis.  Alcohol cause of and solution to all of life's problems.
Auburn: Loses game with intense personal connection (Petrino).  Fanbase enters full-blown existential crisis.  Alcohol cause of and solution to all of life's problems.

But...

how does the story end? In Bama’s case Saban righted the ship, beat Colorado, got the #1 recruiting class, and opened the next year 6-0.

How will Auburn do? My guess- they lose to WV, Ole Miss, UGA and Bama, do not go to a bowl, and coach TT hits the road for somewhere like North Carolina (Davis will leave.)

I

just don’t see that one. He’s only been there a few years and just this season putting a decent team on the field and may win an ACC title this year with Clemson going down in flames.

I agree...

he’s no Petrino…I think he might stay a lil while..at least until something better than Auburn opens up…that almost seems like a step down…

I hope the LUCK of the tubs....

runs out. They have been the luckiest team and coach I have ever seen. I hope they go down on flames for the rest of the year for all the snide comments I have had to listen to from the Barners. I believe they will lose to WV , Ole Miss, GA and we will beat them by at least 4 touchdowns, because I thing CSN and the players want to make a statement.

But as far as tubs going to NC, I just don’t see it. Davis will not be leaving this year anyway, maybe in a couple, but not yet.

I

too am in the mindset of wanting the Iron Bowl to be a blowout. It may be our last shot at Tuberville and I want to make it count.

I'll take a win...

…no matter by what margin, but it would be awesome for us to so dominate them, they would have to call in sick for a week to avoid any of us. I had an UGA guy in my office suite and he did not come in all week after that game. I left him some sweet things in his inbox though. lol

I'll take a win...

…too, please. Despite Auburn’s offensive ineptitude, they still rank higher than us in total defense and scoring defense. Part of that is due to the offensive ineptitude of the competition (MSU, UT, Vandy), but any defense with their statistics has to be taken seriously. Despite LSU’s overall depth and talent, I still think The-Artist-formerly-known-as-the-Iron-Bowl will be our toughest game of the regular season.

(Pauses while waiting for the laughter to subside.)

OK, I hope I’m dead wrong. I’ll still be here in November, so please, give me a hard time if we rout them.

I’ll be smiling too wide to give a Tinker’s Dam.
