Who's your boy?

Something I pretty much do every 3-4 years.  I tend to stick with one guy until he graduates. Someone comes around that you just want to see play every Saturday and when he makes a great play you just have to stand up and say "there is my boy"!  (A new wrinkle is going back and seeing the play again and again, God bless DVR inventor whereever you are!)  I think all of my life its been an defensive player like Gilberry and before that Roach.  The only offensive player was Ricky Moore but now I just can't wait to see Mark Ingram play.  He's a RB that plays like a linebacker.  If you need convincing just watch the (horrible production) PPV of WKU when he scores his first or second touchdown....he could have scampered into the corner of the endzone untouched but he turns in and blasts a defensive player on his way JUST BECAUSE HE WANTED TO.  Thats my boy!

Roll Tide!

a couple of my boys...

have been deshea townsend, toderick malone, keith jackson (the safety)…and now I really like to watch kareem jackson and javier arenas. Don’t know why I like the db’s so much, but it is the hardest position on the field to play as far as athleticism goes.

Well...

my boy was Jimmy Johns. I’d been rooting for him since he was a freshman, and was absolutely ecstatic when he made the move to linebacker. I really thought that he was going to seriously maim some running backs this year.

Maybe this should be my embarrasing admission for the week…

Ricky Moore...

THAT’S a blast from the past. My dad took me to my first Bama game AT Vandy back in 1983; Perkins was coach and Alabama came out in white helmets for the first time in years. I saw Ricky Moore run the game of his life that day and made 2 Vandy players hit each other he split them so fast. Great memories.

I always like the defensive guys; Cornelius Bennett and Derrick Thomas – I even wore #55 in his honor playing high school football and had a picture of him terrorizing Penn State in my locker.

Today it’s obvious: the Legend is my man.

Agree on Mark...

I have liked that kid since I saw his commitment speech. Then he and Star were interviewed at A-Day and they were just so excited to come play here. He has a great attitude, as well as playing smash mouth football. I picked him in the poll for the player I was most excited to see, not Julio. I do like the way Julio seems to come up with some of John Parker’s not so stellar throws though.

A note on Deshea Townsend, BigChief. When they introduced the players for Super Bowl XL and each player said their college, he did NOT say Alabama. It was a WTF? moment and it pissed me off.

I too always rooted for Jimmy Johns, TopDaddy. In interviews, he seemed like a humble guy, but not overly bright. I guess I was right about that.

Deshea...

even during regular games where each player says his school, he does not say Alabama. I can’t ever make out what he’s saying, but it’s definitely not Bama.

Yet...

…all his stat sheets say college – Alabama. I was wondering if he didn’t actually graduate and went to another school and did. But, damn it, this is about where you played football and made a name for yourself in order to be drafted, you jerk. I’m still pissed and more so now that I know he NEVER says Bama. I’m not much for the Steelers, so I didn’t know that.

I know some players...

…name their high school because they didn’t have a good college experience, for whatever reason. If I remember correctly, he was a Stallings recruit but he left early for the NFL in ’98, so maybe he and the DuBose staff had some sort of falling out?

A few of my boys

Freddie Millons; Antwan Odom; Demeco Ryans; Shawn Alexander (obviously); and yes, Mark Ingram is one of my new favorites. I’m also liking Kareem, Rolando, and Woodall. Of all those, however, Ingram is probably my favorite.

Ingram is my boy

bought his jersey after the Clemson game, and haven’t bought a jersey in ten years.

Roll Tide and welcome, Mark!

I was looking for a white Julio jersey but had to settle…it was only like 65 shipped.

Ive been a Cory Reemer fan

Since the Clemson game. Him and greenwood are the only white boys on the defense sometimes…Its just good to see that the whities can still play defense in the SEC! :)

my throwback boy used to be Derrick Lassic and David Palmer...

and, of course, Derrick Thomas…and pretty much all the great D players…
Curry, Copeland, Bennett…

You call that a "throw back?"

My fave as a girl was Major Ogilvie! Would boo the 49ers b/c they cut him! OH, I loved him!! Currently, I have to agree with Ingram at the moment…… and Mt. Cody! Heck, as I type I keep thinking of more. I think you have to look BACK on it!

I wasn’t insulting YOU, just ME! I was in school at UA when DT was there! lol Guess “throwback” made me feel a bit old! haha =)

Major

was always my dad’s favorite. I still remember seeing newspaper clips of him in that tearaway jersey running past the defense…

Momma...

Always had a huge crush on Namath. I’m pretty sure JP’s her boy. She never could be quiet about how cute she thought he was.

As for me, it’s gotta be Ingram on Offense and Mount Cody on defense. Back in the day (‘92, since I’m a young’un) it was David Palmer. His was the only jersey I ever had. George Teague, Shaun Alexander, DeMeco Ryans, and Brodie Croyle go on my list too.

by BigBamaDaddy on Oct 15, 2008 1:42 PM CDT reply actions

I have never...

…bought a jersey surprisingly. The only one I’d ever want is a #12 and McElroy is kinda spoiling that for me right now. I don’t think that number should be given out so easily. Any of the Bama bangs boys(McCarron is next in line) usually rate high with the ladies(including me). The whole 2005 defense(especially DeMeco-such a class act) has to be on anyone’s list.

It's much more fulfilling

if your boy isn’t always a starter. I like Baron Huber. He’s definitely a head hunter. He seems like he just wants to hurt someone on every play. He’s a fullback so he doesn’t get much of a chance except on special teams. But that makes it that much more fulfilling.

I like Will Oakley also…. Seems undervalued.

If I had a steamboat I could make it to London in 60,000 minutes.

Dude I totally do that!!!

My first boy was Matt Caddel from 2004-2007. And since 2007, it is Kareem Jackson. I always have to get a new boy when they are freshmen and stick with them until they leave. I also like to get people who don’t start immediatley but end up becoming the starter. Like Kareem, for example, I first saw him on a recruiting video and loved his attitude. I then saw him get in during the 3rd quarter of the Western Carolina game and BAM! he became my boy.

Speaking of...

Julio’s gonna open up, once he gets someone who can really throw. (No offense, JPW) But have you seen the Rivals footage of AJ McCarron? He looks like a baby (I think he has BRACES) but he throws like a beast, and runs like a certain dog-fighter:) Other than The Legend and Julio, Ingram is definitely one of my boys. Dang, and I like Arenas. And Andre. And Coffee. Can I just go with “That’s my TEAM!!”
