LSU Trip

Star-divide

So despite living in Annapolis, Maryland and having an average college student income, I've decided to make the trip to Baton Rouge this year for Saban Bowl II. Needless to say, I'll be eating plenty of Ramen Noodles to make up for the cost, and I want the trip to be great.

So, this is a post asking for any advice from anyone who has been down to the Bayou. I'm getting in Friday night, and will be there until Sunday. Additionally, if anyone else is going down it would be great to meet up for a drink or something (there's safety in numbers).

Thanks in advance for your help.

Corn dogs

Bring boxes of them. If the natives get feisty drop a an open box and run. They will forget you and devour the corn dogs.

Nasty...

I didn’t know the LSU type would cannibalize their own kind…

1. Bring thick skin.

2. Good student bars – Bogie’s, Shady’s, JL’s Place, all of these are within walking distance of Tiger Stadium. Alot of people like Fred’s too but I’m not a huge fan, they will probably have a really good band like Better Than Ezra or something like that for weekend festivities.
3. Walk-ons is a good sports bar right by the stadium.
4. Bring thick skin.

Run with the pack...

…‘cause you don’t want to find yourself alone in a crimson shirt in Baton Rouge. I was threatened by three grown men inside the stadium…when I was fifteen years old. Also, be a gracious guest, even if they are not gracious hosts. It’s the right thing to do, and it may keep you from getting hurt and/or arrested. If we win the game, these rules doubly apply.

Oh, and by all means, make as much noise as possible when LSU has the ball, even if you’re the only Bama fan in your section. Roll Tide.

Eat at Cane’s.

Seriously, what I wouldn’t give to have Cane’s again… Order extra texas toast.

Take off

Anything on your car that says bama or at least make sure you carry Comp. coverage on you auto policy.

If you are traveling in a pack smaller than 10 it is a good idea to invest in some Mace or either a Tazer. I perfer the Tazer and bring backup batteries. When you get cornered by the meathead, gel hair corndogs you will thank me latter.

Auburn fans are like slinkys... not really good for anything but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

Granted...

…I’ve only been once, but LSU was easily my favorite place I’ve ever traveled to.

By. A. Mile.

It’s the only place I’ve had opposing fans invite me into their tailgates for beers and food. I was down there as a lone Bama fan too. I had people ask me to be in their photos, was surrounded by a group of cute LSU ladies chanting “Tiger Bait” at me (they gave me beads too.)

I’m sure it’ll be WAAAAY different with the arrival of Saban, but I was treated like a king the time I was in BR and I wore Bama stuff on the Friday before the game, the day of the game and the day after the game and people were super cool.

I've had similar experiences...

I’ve never actually been to BR for a game, but I’ve had many an encounter with traveling LSU fans up here (I worked in a restaurant for a good while), and they’re always nice. I’ve heard all the horror stories about urine bags, burning cars, etc., but I haven’t ever been treated poorly by an LSU fan. I’ve found the Georgia fans the last two years the most trashy by far.

Generally a case of "a few bad apples"

But I agree with NiceLittleSaturday below, most fans are going to be all sunshine and lollipops when they are expected to win or just have won. Since we are an actual threat this year (+Saban) I wouldn’t expect a red carpet lined with free beer and gumbo.

watch out for the urine bags

my buddy kyle goes to grad school there, he says they’re pretty riled up this year. but he’s really a Louisville fan, so maybe they just seem riled up to him. i’d keep an eye open for flying ziplocs full of piss though.

i was there in the

last time we beat them there franc vs saban we beat them bad. it was not pretty afterwards i had my sis with me and i almost got into two fights over the vulgar things being said to her. i have traveld to many games and the two i went to in br were very bad. ofcourse we beat them bad both times in fact they were both shutouts if i recall so maybe that had something to do with it. just becareful afterwards that seemed to be the worst time. till then everything was hunky dory. but never let up and roll tide them all the way in and out of town. they did no less in bd the last few years

I am a member of the Sabanation Roll!!Tide!!
