College Football Final
If ESPN has anything to do with it an undefeated Bama team would not play for the NC over Penn State. I am not saying that we will go undefeated. In fact, I will not be overly suprised if we lose 2 games. Texas may also stumble with Tech this weekend. But ESPN is clearly pushing PSU even though they have the easiest road. Their only quality win was over Ohio State and that was a close game. The same OSU team that got killed by USC. Last night we (the no. 2 team in the nation) got about 15 sec worth of highlights while Texas and PSU got a ton of attention. ESPN has also been playing this Joe Pa thing up like crazy. Its all about ratings and lets face it. PSU, Texas, USC, etc. are all in bigger markets. Saban is also no media darling. Ultimately I care about SEC championships but I do find the ESPN agenda interesting.

If Penn State reaches the NC game
then they will be the new OSU. It will be a blow-out regardless of who they play: Texas, USC, Oklahoma, Alabama, etc, etc. It drives me bananas that Penn State will not have to play a championship game.

CBS contract
ESPN does a good job of pushing its main products of their contract. Which in this case is the Big 10. CBS is our main contract and I just can’t get into it today of how much I am disappointed with the broadcasts weekly even when Bama is not playing. I will say this if any SEC team is left out undefeated it’s on CBS’s head. How many “updates” do we get on SEC games during broadcasts…not as many as USC or OSU. Is there any SEC team happy with the CBS coverage? I’ve been working on a tread about the whole thing and will post it later this season and see what everyone else feels.

Not
sure that argument holds water considering ESPN has a contract with the SEC and just signed a new one bigger than the CBS contract.

Re: highlights air time
In all fairness, Penn State and Texas were playing infinitely superior teams than we were. Those were both matchups of Top 10 vs. Top 10. We were playing a team that was 3-4 coming into the game with victories over UAB, Northern Illinois and Mississippi State.
I think a lot of people are wanting PSU to go to the title because of the whole “JoePa is a million years old wouldn’t it be nice to send him out a winner type of thing.”

But.....
I am so sick of JoePa getting all this attention! By watching his news conference after the game you can tell he hardly does any of the coaching (he barely makes sense when he speaks)…It would be awful for Texas and PSU or OSU to play for the NC! If we run the table, we are in no matter what! I like being #2 all the way up to 1/7/09 (when we become #1)

I
don’t think we need to get the perverbial chip on our shoulders just yet. The fact that we will have to face a top 10 or top 5 BCS team in our conference title game helps us a great deal. Just as it helped LSU last year and Florida the year before. Believe it or not, a good number of voters will come to their senses and vote for an SEC team that has to play that championship game, also the computers will favor that as well. To me, the Big 10 is at a disadvantage in this respect.

Dead on!
You took the words right out of my mouth. Bama and Texas are in the same boat. If we go undefeated and win our conference championship game, we are in the NC. Mark it down. We’ll both be playing quality teams in the next few weeks, and JoePa will be playing nobody. And, then we play an extra game that JoePa can’t play. As much as ESPN would like to see JoePa play for a NC, they are not the voters, and it simply will NOT happen unless Texas and/or Bama lose a game and PSU runs the table. We just need to take care of business and not worry about PSU.

I'm
actually hoping Tejas or PSU drops one just take the “controversy” out of it in case we do get to the BCS NC game. I don’t want anybody (namely, envious rival fans) to be able to make any arguments that we lucked our way into a championship.

Nobody ...
… who rolls through the SEC undefeated can be said to have “lucked” their way into anything, my friend.

True
perhaps ‘lucked’ wasn’t the right word. But you know how Aubies are, they’ll try to formulate some argument that will de-legitimize our championship just like they do now with the whole “mythical national titles” thing they like to say.

I am not worried about being left out if we go 13-0
The problem is we will likely lose a game somewhere in our remaining schedule. Hopefully not UF or UGA in the SEC championship game. I think a one loss Big 12 and a one loss SEC team would be a much better game than an undefeated PSU. PSU has a weak schedule, but the media is Joe Pa crazy. This is all I am saying. If Texas loses to TT or someone else and we drop a game, one of us will be left to watch PSU in the NC. And that is just not right. Of course we are still a month away from getting into this too seriously.
I wouldn't piss off the boys from Alabama . . .

drop one and we're out.
If we drop a game, we’re out of the NC running. And as fun as this season has been, for me, it’s already been way over my expectations. Just getting to Atlanta would be a dream, that’s as far ahead as i am willing to look.
I'm in no condition to drive...wait! I shouldn't listen to myself, I'm drunk.

we need to win out
otherwise they’ll give it someone else for sure.
some food for though though from the NCAA’s website http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2008&div=IA&site=org
first of all, BAMA is 5th overall in total defense, and Tejas is 43. Bama is 2nd overall in rushing D, tejas is 3rd. we’re 54th in passing D, and tejas is 110th (thats no typo). and finally we’re 10th in total scoring D, and tejas is 28th. and of course BAMA’s schedule included decent teams who dont suck dick, and tejas’s is loaded with them.

So i guess its safe to say by that
Alabama has the best defense in the SEC?
When you are an Alabama fan you have to hate Auburn, I hate Tennessee because i want to.
