Florida v. Arkansas...
I’ve got to say that Florida just doesn’t look all of that great. They don’t look bad, but they certainly don’t look like anything special either.

And...
Michael Smith is an impressive runner. I think I underestimated him earlier in the year, that much is clear.
He is a very small back, and he’s not going to be a particularly good every-down option, but he does have great speed, good movement from the lower body, and great balance. He’s not going to ever be an elite every-down guy, but he’s certainly a very valuable situational player.
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 12:20 PM CDT reply actions
I thought Smith...
…was very dangerous against us. He’s looking good so far against Florida, too, but they really need a power runner to complement him.
And then...
He fumbles the punt and gives Florida a first down inside the Arkansas 20.

they should do the NFL thing and have fake fan noise in the background...

RBR's KING of HIP-HOP...
Florida....
To me, Florida just doesn’t look that good. Arkansas has thoroughly proven through the first five weeks of the season that they suck big-time, and it’s hard to fathom that they’ve made this kind of progress in the course of five days.
Florida just isn’t doing anything. They only have 180 total yards of offense right now, and 75 yards worth of penalties. If Arkansas wouldn’t have killed themselves with penalties, this should be a 7-0 or 3-0 game right now.

afternoon fellas........
so what kind of a chance do you guys give vandy tonight?
It's all about the process....
I want...
I want them to win very badly, but my gut instinct — based on 20+ years of watching Vanderbilt — is that they will choke.

South Carolina v. Ole Miss
I didn’t even realize this game was underway just yet, but Ole Miss is leading 21-17 in the early second quarter.
Snead has been highly efficient thus far as a passer, but he did fumble and it was returned for a touchdown.

ya’ll gotta help me out…they’re not showin it here yet…
RBR's KING of HIP-HOP...
Not good...
Andre whiffed on the linebacker lined up as a defensive end, and Wilson held onto the ball entirely too long.
That will result in a sack every time.

Two big penalties...
Need a stop here.
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 2:42 PM CDT reply actions
Kentucky...
… just imploded during that drive. They should have been driving in our territory.
All right offense and special teams, get your shit together.
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 2:43 PM CDT reply actions
The first penalty, the illegal formation, just looked like a general screw-up, but the delay of game seemed to stem a bit from some of the defensive shifts we made.
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 2:44 PM CDT up reply actions
Arenas returned...
… the punt for about three yards. Made a bunch of nifty moves, but Kentucky had it covered well.
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 2:44 PM CDT up reply actions
Yep...
… excellent special teams all the way around.
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 2:45 PM CDT up reply actions
Halftime in Oxford...
… and Ole Miss leads South Carolina 21-17.
If the Gamecocks want to make a bowl game, this is probably a must-win.

Nine men...
On first and ten, when we had the bunch left, Kentucky had nine men in the box. Think they were expecting a run?
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 2:46 PM CDT reply actions
Fuck!
It’s coming back, they called illegal formation.

78-yard touchdown run!

I'm still mad about that flag.
Of course, I also love Glen Coffee
Great...
I don’t know if you guys noticed it, but there was two great blocks on the right side of the offensive line, from Drew Davis and Marlon Davis. Those two guys cleared out a massive running lane for him.
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 2:50 PM CDT reply actions
wow, nice
If it were up to me, I'd blitz on offense too.
by The Heffalump on Oct 4, 2008 2:52 PM CDT up reply actions

Caldwell got the nose, Drew Davis got the end, and Marlon Davis jumped to the second level and got the linebacker.

I read that he was ready to go
If it were up to me, I'd blitz on offense too.
by The Heffalump on Oct 4, 2008 2:54 PM CDT up reply actions
I think...
He’s okay, but he just hasn’t gotten in the game yet. We’ve only ran about six plays on offense.
And Whew!
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 2:55 PM CDT up reply actions
Need a stop...
The penalty gave them great field position.
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 2:54 PM CDT reply actions
Good play call...
… give the Kentucky staff credit.
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 2:55 PM CDT reply actions
Great rush!
We moved Greenwood inside to the nose and it paid off.
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 2:56 PM CDT reply actions
Front four...
Anders, Fanney, Greenwood, and Deaderick.
I like that a lot for rushing the passer. It’s basically a front four of your top two defensive ends and your top two Jack linebackers.
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 2:57 PM CDT reply actions
Needs to catch that one...
… Arenas needs to make that grab; it saves us 10 yards of field position.
Either way, we need to really pound our way out here, we don’t need a big negative play or have to punt deep out of our own end zone.
It’d be nice to pin Kentucky up deep for a change.
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 2:58 PM CDT reply actions
Nice run...
Great block by McCall from the H-back position, he has done that extremely well lately.
Plus the 15, and we suddenly are out past the 25.
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 3:01 PM CDT reply actions
Damnit...
Maze had his man beat, and Wilson served up a chickenshit throw.

You...
CANNOT UNDERTHROW the speed guy.
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 3:02 PM CDT reply actions
Ingram...
Upchurch just got that carry, so either Ingram is third on the depth chart or is not going to play today.
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 3:02 PM CDT reply actions
I think so...
I figure he’s fine, but you might as well limit his carries. We get the off week next week, and with Upchurch playing so well, there’s no reason to pound Ingram any more than you need to.
And speaking of Ingram, there he is getting hammered on the ill-advised screen pass.
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 3:05 PM CDT up reply actions
Great grab...
… by Stover. Big conversion on third down.
That’s about the first Stover sighting we’ve seen since Shreveport.

Is he hurt?
you sure? didn’t seem like it there.
Wow...
… great cut by Ingram, and it’s a huge game.
There is absolutely no doubt about it, they had that play stopped. He juked some little shit right out of his girdle.

here's another one of "those" drives we've been talking about all year
It's all about the process....
Uh...
… Julio probably should have caught that one, but nevertheless it was good coverage.
Wilson isn’t setting the world on fire yet, he’s 1-5 for 9 yards.
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 3:08 PM CDT reply actions
Even if they didn't get the first
Good eye by JPW to see the covered up receiver
Good snap, good hold...
There is absolutely no one to blame on that one but Tiffin.

All right defense...
Since Leigha decided to fuck us over, we need a stop here.
Fuck that is frustrating… we drive 83 goddamn yards and don’t get a single point. Talk about wasted offensive production…

Final: Penn State 20, Purdue 6
Wasn’t Penn State supposed to blow them out?
If it were up to me, I'd blitz on offense too.
They controlled them pretty well.
It wasn’t that close.
Should have...
… but they didn’t.
I honestly don’t think Penn State is all of that good. They may go undefeated, but I don’t think that would happen if they were in either the SEC or Big 12.

Great job...
Good pressure up the middle, and a great job of the rushers getting their hands up.

Is that kinda like Marqueese Maze?

We’re inside the two, go for two.
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 3:14 PM CDT reply actions
No, let Tiffin get his head back in the game with an easy kick
If it were up to me, I'd blitz on offense too.
by The Heffalump on Oct 4, 2008 3:14 PM CDT up reply actions
Perhaps we'll have to agree to disagree...
… but if we need to let this kid hit XPs to get points back, we’ve got much bigger problems than a failed two-point conversion.
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 3:17 PM CDT up reply actions
Well..
… I’ll be fucking goddamned, he got the motherfucker.
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 3:14 PM CDT reply actions
all in all, if a kicker is going to have a rough day. let it be today. not when we are in death valley.
True enough...
I’ll agree with that, but even so this shit is Arkansas-esque at the moment.
Hopefully it doesn’t come down to a field goal.

Huh...You learn something new every day.
If it were up to me, I'd blitz on offense too.
by The Heffalump on Oct 4, 2008 3:17 PM CDT up reply actions
No...
Teams get to bring their own football. That has been the case for many years now.
Whichever team puts the ball into play on offense or special teams gets to use the ball they brought. They are usually branded with a school logo to help identify.
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 3:18 PM CDT up reply actions
Verne mentioned
that each offense gets to supply their own. Hence Hartline shouldn’t be having grip issues.
I think...
It’s usually a non-issue because so many teams use the exact same type of ball, but it can come into play on special teams plays. Some balls, just via manufacturing construction ranges, are slicker than others, and homers loved to send in the slippery balls on the plays where they would have to handle things on special teams.
Actually, that issue came up in the NFL two years ago when Romo fumbled the hold on the XP in the playoffs against the Seahawks. Supposely the Seahawks had slipped him one of the slippery balls out of the kicking ball bag.
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 3:21 PM CDT up reply actions
I don't...
I don’t know exactly when that practice started, but I know they were doing that even as early as the late-1990’s.

Uncle Verne
Not to complain about Uncle Verne but he’s said “McCain” instead of McClain 3 times already in the first quarter. C’mon Verne!!
Kentucky...
Kentucky loves the screen pass, that’s for sure.

We are going to the two Jack and two DE look for a front four on third and long, and it is really getting a ton of pressure. I’m loving this look.

Arenas...
… this damn kid has to learn to call a fucking fair catch.
You cannot turn every goddamn punt return into an 85-yard score.
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 3:23 PM CDT reply actions
yea...he wants to be the star when sometimes, that means makin the safe call...
RBR's KING of HIP-HOP...
Exactly...
The safe, boring play is, at times, the right play. Arenas needs to learn that in the worst way.
At times, it seems like his goal is to get on Sportscenter every time he touches the ball. That works well sometimes, but not always.

Our defense...
Needs a big stop here.
This is a 14-0 game that we have controlled, but it is much closer than it should be. This should be a 24-0 game right now. Kentucky is still in this game, and they should be damn near completely knocked out at this point.

Good stop...
We should have picked that one, but oh well, we forced the punt. Sharrief came in front and screwed it up for whoever was behind him.
Anyway, all right offense, get your shit together.
And by God Arenas called the fair catch there. I think the arm was going up right about the time the ball reached the punter.

RBR's KING of HIP-HOP...
Not bad, but...
We aren’t playing very well, period. This game should have been 24-0 several minutes ago, and now Kentucky will go to halftime with, a worst-case scenario of a 14-0 game.

So that means they will punt to Arenas. I’m not sure exactly how this will play out though, it’s a bit scary with how he has handled the ball so far.
A score before half would be great, but I don’t want to risk anything else. We needed a score, for sure, but that’s the offense’s fault for fucking things up.
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 4:07 PM CDT reply actions

ok ok ok...
let’s all be calm, people…
this is classic Bama football, even when we go undefeated and win NCs, we just play some teams close…as long as we leave with the W and show some improvement, we’ll be ok…let’s not get crazy…
I’m tryin to be the voice of reason…
we’re still ok..
RBR's KING of HIP-HOP...
I agree...
I agree, we should be okay. As long as our defense keeps dominating UK this way, we’re in great shape.
That’s just not the point, though. The problem is that if they get some offense, or we have a stupid turnover, this is a 14-7 and it’s a game that we could easily lose. Given how we have absolutely dominated them thus far, this should be a blowout at this stage, a blowout to where it would take an unbelievably monumental collapse to even bring losing back into the question as a legitimate possibility.

shoulda, woulda, coulda...

RBR's KING of HIP-HOP...
I know...
… and I’m not complaining if the defense can keep dominating, but I’m just afraid that eventually the Kentucky offense will find a little life, and that’s really all they need to find to get back into this game.
But you’re right, I’m a realist pessimist.
by outsidethesidelines on Oct 4, 2008 4:22 PM CDT up reply actions
The fact...
The fact that this game is so close is utter horseshit. We are absolutely dominating this game.
We lead in total yardage 253-60. Kentucky is averaging fewer than 3 yards per pass and 2 yards per run. Kentucky has only 4 first downs. They are 1-9 on third down.
This should be blowout city right now. The fact that this game is still competitive is utter horseshit.

It's all about the process....
So much for Johnny Reb...
They choked, South Carolina goes into Oxford and gets the 31-24 win.

As much as this game has sucked
Compared to how things have been over the last few years, it’s great to be in the spot we are in, complaining about how Bama should be up 24-0 at half. A few years ago, we would be tied or losing this game right now.
Let’s try and keep things in perspective.
Very true...
I’ll second that in a heartbeat.

Considering you guys are still 4-1, I think there’s a great chance that you can get seven wins and in a bowl game again. I figure you guys are as good, or better, than South Carolina, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, and Tennessee. I could see three wins in that group, even if you guys cannot pull off any upsets.
