I want some opinions...

This Mark May ESPN guy....

Star-divide

This guy just totally slapped our team in the face yesterday. He sat there there and bragged about how good OU is and thats how a championship team plays week in and week out yada yada yada...(no disrespect to OU, yall deserve to be there @ #1...for now hehehe)....

And then he totally rips the Tide for playing UK so close and having a couple turnovers and not scoring a bagillion points points...and how we deserve to fall to #4 or #6 or so....basically saying we are overrated and LSU needs to take our spot even though they didnt even play yesterday.

What next?...Im willing to bet they at the Espn booth are just itching to put USC and those Buckeyes back in the top 4...

But back to this Mark May guy...Is it me or is he just a prick? Is he that ignorrant to think that a team in the SEC can just roll over each conference opponent week in and week out by 30 pts...and look pretty doin it?

What do yall think?

Poll
If anything, this guy has givin us one more thing to prove, and I like playing when we have something to prove....but here is my question.......Is Mark May...
a complete biased PRICK who for some reason has a chip on his shoulder pertaining to the SEC and/or BAMA

an overpaid ...(insert the rest of first poll answer here)

I like fast cars... I dont know this May guy, but I agree with the first two choices

He is an excellent analyst...you know...picked clemson and UGA to beat us...and can foresee the imminent crashing and burning of the tide...hmmm

I agree, for the most part, but...

If Auburn taught us anything a few years back (13-0 and no NC) is that if you don’t play to potential week in and week out, you may get left out. Obviously, it’s very hard for that scenario to play out again, but if it does, it’s gonna be the top two teams in the polls. And a third of the poll that determines those top two teams is based on human perception…

Thank God for Lou Holtz...

…for making the point that things like fumbles are just part of the game. Champions find ways to win even when they suck. Style points count for nothing when you can’t win on an off day. Just ask Urban Meyer. If The Tide drops a notch or two in the polls, so be it. The Mark Mays of the world will be fawning all over us again when we empty Tiger Stadium.

As for now, let Chokelahoma keep the top spot. They are going to fall to Texas anyway.

It does not matter

If Alabama takes care of things in the SEC it is irrelevant. Also, we are talking about the AP poll, which compromises almost no part of the BCS.

The ESPN guys

have said several times that no one can run the table this year. They have even stated several times that the in the SEC it will be impossible to go undefeated. So if we are winning and not dropping a game (even in a close one) then why do they turn on the SEC . I mean when southern cal has a bad day they lose, but they don’t drop as bad as an SEC team whom at least plays a much tougher schedule in the same conference that even they have said is by far the best in the land. Lot of double talk if you ask me, or just trying to keep ratings up fot their shows on game day.

Here is the real pudding

Two missed field goals , one fumble on a likely TD drive , bone head defensive play on prevent , horrid officiating (can we say payback for Saban calling them out last week)and still won. Hey I was there this game was not that close. Defense was great and gettign better. Also hey guys we are two up on everyone in the west except LSU so we just need to take care of buisiness. The first goal is to win the west.

One more thing

Bama 17 Southern Miss 10
Bama 13 La Tech 0
Bama 17 Tenn 10

Not pretty huh ……………………1992 close games imagine that we won them all that year. Running the ball great defense and special teams. Hey all those ESPN jokes didnt say how we shut down one of the best returners in the game last night huh. Roll Tide Roll 6-0

Great point

Coffee’s fumbles, Tiffin’s missed FGs, and POOR Officiating and we still won. This is the only game we have not dominated score-wise this year. Would rather this bad game come now, at the halfway point, right before a bye, and give Saban and co. the chance to correct it. The season starts anew in two weeks, and we need to go 6-0 to start out again.

also, as disappointed as i am with the offense performance yesterday – the fact is kentucky has a damned good D. this isn’t like the tulane game. we didn’t come out with our A game and got some serious competition from an underrated opponent. will we drop? probably. but i’m more interested in solving the consistency problem than poll standings to be honest. if this team can get its head straight and starts playing to it’s potential EVERY game… well, it’s pretty clear that the poll situation will solve itself.

I honestly like Mark...

I think he certainly looks like a geinus next to Holtz, anyway. And who knows? He might be right….we may be over-rated: that’s something we’ll find out over the next 6 games. But lawbama1 stole my thunder….winning ugly is still a win, a-la the 92 team. The way the top 5 looks right now, IF we keep winning, the rest will take care of itself.

Its ESPN what do you honestly expect… I dont think it is a Mark May issue…I think it is an anti bama / espn thing

Wait a minute. Mark may picked us against Clemson. I’m sure of that. I’m pretty sure he picked us against UGA as well. Might be wrong on that last one.

He Definitely Picked Alabama vs. Clemson and Georgia

I even remember him picking Alabama by more than a touchdown against Clemson.
Mark is also a good antidote for Lou’s uncontrollable Notre Dameism. I watched College Football Final last night. The way he shot down Holtz’s argument that Notre Dame was a top ten team for beating nobodies with losing records was priceless.

I

say bring on the nay sayers. You can’t convince everybody nor should that be our goal. We got showered in cool aid last week by the national media and now reality sets in, the season is only half over. I’m not saying I’m satifsfied with #2 but right now thats pretty damn good. Just about every remaining game on the schedule could be loss if we don’t show up, start fast and finish each game. We get a chance to heal and get ready for the Rebs. I don’t care about blowing everybody out either but I still say if you go through this conference undefeated you will play for the BCS NC, unless you’re the Barn.

I don't like Mark May...

…he seems like a total douche, but he does have a point that Alabama isn’t playing the kind of consistently good football that a team like Oklahoma has, or even Mizzou, Texas, LSU, or Penn State has. When we are on and playing our best, I’d put us up against any one of those teams, but we’re still a long way from where we can actually dominate teams like those guys have every single game.

Its easy...

…to be consistent when you are outside the SEC…Hawaii was very consistant last year…..until they played UGA…..

WE ARE CONSISTENT IN THAT WE ARE CONSISTENT AT WINNING SO FAR…..

As a UK fan

Congrats on your win.It is easy to look past UK,and I think that is part of what happened, and we have a decent defense, which allowed us to stay in game.Saben reminds me so much of what Pitino did at UK early on,being on proabation and turning it around fast, and putting us back back in the national spotlight.Good luck the rest of the season, and your fans are a class act,and enjoyed the posts over at a Sea of
Blue this week.

Well...

I don’t know about Mark May being worst at Tide disparagement…most all analysts seem to have a deep-seated anger towards the crimson and white, whatever the reason might be. I think that Kirk Herbstreit is the only one that doesn’t consistently give us down the road. I think the majority of the time he’s pretty objective. But, what about those 2 freaking communists that CBS hired to call the game. Lundquist?? Please. And that tool he had with him. They sounded like they were too upset that they didn’t get to call the Steelers game. I wouldn’t have been the slightest bit surprised if they would’ve whipped out tiger stripes and War Eagle foam fingers or something.

As for consistency…well, it is the nature of the beast that all teams will be off rhythm from time to time. Even top ranked teams pull out squeakers on their way to number 1, as lawbama1 noted. The biggest difference that most analysts have failed to note is that while last year’s squad (with primarily the same squad, a few notable differences) would’ve folded like a cheap suit, this year’s team has something new…and that’s confidence. They are learning to finish.

Besides, this IS Alabama football, after all. If we didn’t suffer at least one or two coronaries in the course of the season it wouldn’t be right. :)

I've got a fever...

In my book...

the mark of a great team is overcoming miscues and penalties to hang on in a game that by all rights should have been lost. Think about how many time Tennessee in the past 5 years has so very nearly tanked only to hang on. Why? They have been a consistently good football team. Same with USC every year. They’ve ALMOST been beaten so many times it’s not funny. But is there any argument that USC has been a great team? (Granted not the team of immortal gods that ESPN seems to label them each year…)

Great football teams find a way to win. Lest we forget children, last year’s national champions had two games in which they couldn’t overcome those miscues. And still hoisted that crystal when all was said and done.

speaking of opinions

everyone has said that no team will go undefeated in the SEC this year… so in your opinions who would you pick for us to lose too? Me I cant really say I want to lose to anyone, I would hate for it to be a rivalry game ie the barn, tennessee or LSU. But I also would hate to see us lose to a lesser teer team.

Bad karma...

…to answer that question. Believe we will win them all.

im taking...

…the Saban approach, I can see every game as a W, and as of right now, after witnessing this week’s ’Murphy’s Law’ game that the Tide STILL won..it only strenghtens that belief…roll tide!

PS…I dont know this Mark May guy personally (he prob is a nice guy…), and if anyone happens to be kin to him…i apologize for the lack of tact…but his remarks were a slap in the face to BAMA…
