JPW and the Telephone Call?
What a fantastic Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately the bar I watched in had sound on a different game so I couldn't hear the announcers. Sometimes that's a good thing though
Anyway, I never got the story about JP and the mock phone call after the first touchdown? I saw where they relpayed it 50 times though, and also saw shots of Tebow and Moreno doing the same thing at LSU.
What was this all about?
Thanks and ROLL TIDE!

LSU students...
stole his cell phone number and harassed him last week. That was his answer to them.

here's my rant on celebration penalties that I posted on another forum
expletives deleted:
BTW these #$^ penalties for celebration are getting out of hand. This $& is absurd. In our last game Maze was penalized 15 yards for crossing his arms over his chest and looking up after a TD. Ridiculous Last year LSU fans got Noshawn Moreno's phone number and flooded it with taunts. When he scored, he made the call me sign. No penalty. This year they did it to Tebow. He did the call me sign. No penalty. They did it to JP Wilson (including death threats, not just taunts). He does the call me sign... 15 yard penalty. WHAT THE @&^^#. It's not like he was dancing around and doing it either. It was subtle. That call affected the momentum of the game. And how about the Washington game earlier this year when the QB threw his arms up in jubilation, the ball flies up, and they call him for celebration causing them to miss the tying extra point. THIS IS ALL UTTER %&. It seems like the only thing they will let you do is the chest bump, which frankly I am fucking sick as hell of seeing anyway. They should call a 15 yard penalty on chest bumps for lack of creativity and emotion. 15 yard penalties should be reserved for in your face #@# or stuff that’s just over the top. Either add the option of a 5 yard penalty for minor $&^ or CUT THESE PLAYERS SOME *#$^# SLACK.

so, mr. travis. tell me a bit about that staunt wyoming defense and how it’s more formidable than the cowboy’s record would suggest? is that what’s keeping you from sucide?

penalties and LSU officials
Is it true that the ref that actually blocked the South Carolina player when USC was playing LSU was on the field at this game? Then JPW not only gets a 15 yard penalty but gets shoved by then ref in the end zone for a simple non-obscene hand gesture? I think intentional touching by a ref of a player should get the ref a “penalty.” Like a suspension. That is BS. Someone needs to take this up with the governing body of NCAA football officials. Some of these refs are out of control, and the ones at the LSU/Bama game were way past that.

No.
Thomas Floyd was the umpire on Saturday. Wilbur Hackett was the umpire who tackled Stephen Garcia.

Wilbur Hackett
was the ump Saturday, I am pretty sure. Looking it up now, as I may be wrong.

texty
Before the game, a LSU friend and hardcore fan texted me what she said was Coach Saban’s phone number. They’re real big on cell phone attacks down in Red Stick.

Celebration penalty calls...
…are total BS. I watched a game on Saturday where a player threw the ball up in the air…no penalty. Can’t remember which game, but everyone in the room flipped out when they saw it because of the JPW call earlier in the day.

I agree
but I must say Wilson should have never put himself in that position. He let his emotions overcome him. I do agree, however, that we have had TWO of those all year, and those have been the only two times we have celebrated period (other than hugging teammates).
Anyone else notice how crappy the refs were and that it was the SAME crew and SAME Ump that tackled SC’s QB two weeks ago?

I agree that the ref's sucked. Period.
On JP, I cannot agree. Just imagine yourself in his shoes: QB of the #1 team in the country, classes, practice=full schedule all by itself. He probably depends on that phone just like the rest of us do for MOST communication. To have ignorant idiots harrass you constantly by having your number and destroy your primary means of communication at a VERY busy and stressful time in life is at the very least, frustrating. Not to mention the hassle and expense getting a new number and getting it to everyone. Depending on how many people you know, this could take forever!! Let’s also not forget, we do not know the nature of the calls. We assume they were impersonal, but I am sure there are LSU fans in Hoover who could find out about his family.
So, all of this and he punches in the TD and ALL he does is the “cell phone” to the fans??? In my opinion, it showed great restraint! There were probably many other gestures he would rather have done! I feel like it was worth it, that early in the game.

Also factor in...
…that Tebow and Moreno did NOT get penalized. If John Parker had thought we would get hit, I don’t believe he would have done it. Not surprising the refs would use us to set an example of what not to do by penalizing us. NCAA ring a bell, people?

You and Vicki
both make great points. However, remember this is one of the top positions in all of sports – Bama Starting QB – and you gotta hold it in sometimes. I am not sure I would have, but rise above those idiots.
I do, however, agree that it is total Bullshit that Moreno nor Tebow got flagged for it, but we did. WTF?

and popped open a cold one and shotgunned it and threw the can into the crowd? Didn’t know if you would do the whole routine or not…

That DEFINITELY...
…makes a more clear statement than a hand to your ear! If you’re gonna get 15 yards, do it right! We ARE the #1 team, damn it, get the #1 highlight penalty of the season!
That really is what it makes you feel like, though! I had mine stolen by a wack-job and her wack-job sister one time. I had 40+ calls in less than 2 hours while I was in the gym! She had discovered the preschool my child went to, my car/tag #, the gym I was in, threatened our lives, etc……40+times with her sister!! And this was not as easy as it would be to find out about someone with a little notariety. I don’t know about JP, but it P’d me off!! I wasn’t afraid, I was livid! Of course, I had the luxury of knowing the identiy……….THE END.

Out of control refs
When we have to not only outplay the other team but also overcome the refs, who are supposed to be impartial, then we can truly say we are the number 1 team. I think it is absolutely unacceptable for a ref to shove a player … how can they maintain any credibility after behaving like that? Do they have such a strong allegiance to a particular team that they are unable to do there job? If so, they need to be removed. Are they betting money on a game which could also cause such behavior? I think an investigation and a public report is warranted to ensure the integrity of all future games.

Hey Tigers
You have nothing else to do….go get me the ref’s phone numbers. I’ve got free nights and weekends!!!
Sure I'd like to beat Notre Dame, don't get me wrong. But nothing matters more than beating that cow college on the other side of the state.

What about those flags that get waved off
I know one of them would have gone against us and it was waved off, but come on. If a flag is thrown then the ref saw something. I know we all get it wrong sometimes and talking with another can help clear it up, but come on. Three flags getting waved off, that is bad officiating.
I wouldn't piss off the boys from Alabama . . .

I had never...
until Saturday night, seen three flags waived off. And it seemed as though they were not that far apart, timewise, away from each other. I don’t remember who the flags were on or what for, but it’s almost like the refs huddled up and reminded each other that they all had money on this and to quit screwing it up…
