While gaining 153 yards on punt returns against Mississippi State, Javier Arenas presented one more example why he's one of the Tide's most electric players. That begs the question: Has Saban ever considered him on offense?
"Not this year," Saban said. "That might be something to think about in the future. But his plate is pretty full right now."
Saban is not averse to defenders playing offense. Nose tackle Terrence Cody has taken one snap at fullback, and there are plays installed where he takes a handoff.
From al.com. Raise your hand if the prospect of Cody running the ball makes you warm.

What it feels like for a defender seeing Cody falling on top of you...

both hands raised high...
nah, eff it, I’ma cut ’em off and throw ’em in the air…
I wanna see Cody run the ball up the middle, dragging defenders…a moving pile of human wreckage…

Hand Held High
…although, to be honest, he’s scarier as a fullback.
Were he to run the ball, then tacklers could sorta choose not to try to tackle him. When he’s blocking downfield, then he’s the one doing the choosing – the Mountain is running down Mohammed.
But, yes, as soon as I read that blurb about the Mountain taking a handoff, I had to admit that I smiled.
Yeah, he acted as a fullback but then went down on the play and was gone for two weeks.

I made this comment
several months ago and was somewhat dismissed. I, however, lack the computer savvy and motivation to try to find and repost my original thoughts so I will repeat.
I think Cody would be a legit ballcarrier in those short yardage situations. I’m talking like that once in every two games or so situation where you REALLY need 1 yard or less. See 1985 Bears – “The Refridgerator” Perry. Seriously, as long as he wasn’t hit way in the backfield and could get up a head of steam what freaking army could stop that guy from getting a couple positive feet?
It
would not be his first carry. He did it at the JuCO that he transfered from. Which is probably why this notion even came about.
Auburn fans are like slinkys... not really good for anything but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.
I think I remember
reading about that somewhere, maybe here on RBR. A former teammate or coach was talking about him running the ball in JUCO when he was still a svelte 420 or so, lumbering down the field with half the defense hanging off his back. I’ll have to admit the idea is kind of gimmicky, especially when we have guys like Coffee and Ingram to pound the ball. But as Todd says, the thought does make me warm.
No doubt
I would like to see him catch a toss left and square up a 250 LB. Head to head. Dreaming I Know.

Great pic...
…but Josh Chapman may take issue with it, since he is the Incredible Hulk. But that’s still awesome.

Awesome
but, isn’t Cody just a little too friendly for Hulk? What about Mr. Incredible (pre-workout, natch)
