Around SBN: Steve McNair Dead - Former NFL QB Shot and Killed

Could I interest you in some Snake Oil?

"As far as misery goes, it's been a record-setting season for Michigan. The worst part: at 8 losses, the pain isn't over yet... What has gone wrong in Ann Arbor? Scenario: legacy coach and staff depart under pressure, but gracefully. Hot, national-stature coach is hired to the delirious joy of the fans. Talk of a difficult rebuilding year commences -- but no one expected the wheels to catch fire, fall off, and the cart to explode into a thousand fiery fragments."

Maybe

we can all chip in and send Coach Rich a RBR gift basket.
card would read
Thank you coach for not being our Fifth mistake.

Auburn fans are like slinkys... not really good for anything but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

Y'all are some...

… schadenfreude loving sons-of-guns. I stopped worrying about Michigan a long time ago. Focus all of your hate on Auburn now!

College football

is one and only arena where that is not only morally permisable, but its encouraged.

If you want to hear something really funny… his little sycophants still leave pissy comments on my FanHouse posts — even ones that have nothing to do with Alabama, Michigan, or anything else just to tell me how stupid I am. It’s pretty funny that they have nothing better to do than follow me around the internet and poke me with a virtual stick.

Cook

sucks.

Ditto...

Unreal how Cook is taking a moral high ground here. He would NEVER trash talk a coach and offer unsubstantiated opinions as facts on the internet, would he? As YOUR coach who is thankfully NOT our coach said “get a life”!!

just to be clear about things...

…i posted this less out of the spirit of schadenfrued as my unwavering love of delicious irony. and the underlying point of the article in question offers the latter up in spades. cook’s original item cast aspersions on saban’s recruiting tactics implying they were, at the least, unethical and, at the worst, a possible violation of NCAA rules. the fact is, as reviled as saban tends to be, he is known for running clean programs.

but the heart of building consistent programs is recruiting and it’s clear saban has taken to heart the personell approach of his also reviled mentor bill belichick. you come up with a functional strategy and then you do what you have to in order to get the people you need. but, unlike the nfl, it’s not a question of maximizing a payroll, it’s getting the most out of a limited number of scholarship slots.

i’m not convinced the rich rodriguez experiment in ann arbor will remain at the current level of suck but it’s clear the michigan program is sadly lacking in players to run any scheme, much less the high-octane spread they expected. and, as this article indicates, the one hope of salvation for rodriguez is to get them and fast…

Rodriguez has used up all his good will and then some. After the Ohio State game has reached its merciful conclusion, Rodriguez would be well-advised to hit the recruiting trail hard, and to install an exceptional off-season training program. Michigan needs every last bit of help it can get … and so does Rodriguez.

…so maybe the need to be a bit more creative about how they bring in players. but without resorting to snake oil, of course.

i'm sure cook, upstanding public servant that he is,

will keep a watchful eye on Rich-Rod’s recruiting tactics and that he will be ever so vigilant when it comes to exposing any potentially unethical dealings or abuse of the profound trust that has been given to him by the fine institution that is the university of michigan.

if, for example, some players or recruits were to allege that any improprieties were taking place within the program, i have absolute confidence that cook will investigate those matters to the fullest extent of his ability. After all any dishonest or underhanded tactics by the coaching staff would surely manifest themselves into high profile defections from the program and to internal discord. and frankly, that’s not the sort of thing that would go unnoticed even by the mainstream media and the casual fan. no sir, if anything is amiss, our brave hero brian cook will undoubtibly be the first to expose it. and he will certainly be among the vanguard elite that would help restore the mighty michigan wolverene program back to its proper place among the nations elite.

well thanks to the Ann Arbor Exodus...

Rich Rod will have upwards of 32+ scholarships to give out during the recruiting season.

I just heard...

…him say that he didn’t look at the roster before he took the job and didn’t realize there were so few starters coming back. Can you imagine Coach Saban saying that he didn’t look at something like that before he took a job? I thank God every day for my wife, for my kids, for my health, and that we have CNS for a coach (as opposed to somebody like Ricky Roddy).
