Question About The Sugar Bowl
I've got a question about the Sugar Bowl. It looks like Utah is going to be in the BCS. I've seen predictions that they will be in Sugar Bowl against the loser of the SEC Championship game (assuming both UA & UF win next week.) I do think Bama can beat Florida. But no matter who goes from the SEC, playing Utah stinks. I think UGA got a bad deal last year playing Hawaii. And how many Utah fans will travel from Utah anyway? My question is, and maybe some of you guys know this, is Utah a lock for the Sugar Bowl? How could we get such a bad deal two years in row? Not saying the SEC would kill Utah, I just would rather play Ohio State, USC, Texas, etc. I'd even rather play Cin.

They're not a lock,
but at this point it looks like Utah, Ohio State, or USC. It all depends on what the Fiesta Bowl does. They’ll likely take a Big 12 South and then they’ll be able to choose from those three teams or the Big East Champ. After that, the Sugar Bowl will choose from whoever’s left. At this point, I would say it’s about 50/50 that Utah will end up in the Sugar Bowl.

I feel the same away
I’d much rather play a ‘name’ team. Utah or Cincy -nothing to get excited about.
Beat fla, so it won’t happen.

I'm hearing...
…OSU currently, and based on what rugman11 just said, that looks about right. If so, they can continue their proud tradition of getting stomped by SEC teams in bowls. Hopefully, they’ll get a rematch with Florida.

I'd rather...
…play Utah than tOSU. tOSU is a gigantic snore.

I'd rather play...
…OU, Texas, or SUC in Miami.

Utah is in, but...
…since they expanded the BCS to accommodate such teams, it’s been an unwritten rule that they’re included in the game that hosts the championship. Example: last year Hawaii was in Sugar, this year will be Orange.
But, of course, nothing is a lock with the way this is all designed (boo!).

I think that is more of a function of how the bowls pick teams.
The Bowl that is played in the same city as the Championship chooses its at-large team last. The Sugar Bowl would have gladly taken WVU or Kansas last year, but those teams were gone by the time they got to pick their at-large team and they were required to take Hawai’i. Same thing with Boise State two years ago. This year, I think that the Big East Champion will be the last team chosen, so they will go to the Orange Bowl to play the ACC Champ. Utah will end up in either the Fiesta or Sugar Bowl, depending on which team the Fiesta Bowl wants. Personally, I hope they end up in the Sugar Bowl because a Utah-Florida game intrigues me. :)
