What to do with Oklahoma...
So I'm trying to do my BlogPoll ballot, and I can't make up my mind who I want at #3, Texas or OU. Texas has the head to head win, but they lost to the Tech team that the Sooners just destroyed. I'm leaning towards OU since, aside from the Texas loss (which they were competitive in), they've just looked better than the Longhorns, but I still can't get over the head to head results and think Texas should be ranked higher because of it. What are y'all's thoughts?
Update: I think I worked out the goal differential deal that Nico was talking about, but math and I seldom see eye to eye, so if this is completely wrong, let me know (or, even better, work it out yourselves and post your findings, because I am lazy. And then there's that whole math thing...).

Oklahoma has the non-conference schedule
Even with Chattanooga and Washington on the schedule, Cincinnati and TCU are much better than UTEP, Rice, FAU, and Arkansas.

When you are an Alabama fan you have to hate Auburn, I hate Tennessee because i want to.
Oklahoma
Texas lost to TT because of a complete defensive meltdown at the end of the game. They beat Oklahoma largely because of injuries to OK’s defense during the game, as well. Additionally, they lost Orakpo, their defensive stud, and haven’t been as impressive as Oklahoma recently. Above all, though, you’ve got to give it to OU because of the thorough ass-kicking they handed to TT last night. That was just sick.

I will have to disagree
as phenomenal as OU looked last night, Texas beat them. Head to head, excuses or no, Texas won on the field. I say they get the nod.
Alabama judges its team by national and SEC titles. Auburn judges its team by how many times it beats Alabama. You tell me who the dominant team in the state is.
Well technically...
OU, Texas, and Tech are in a 3 way tie. Texas beat OU, Tech beat Texas, and OU beat Tech. So in my opinion, the head to head thing is irrelevent. OU crushed a Tech team who beat Texas who barely beat OU. Plus that game was at the beginning of the season(Well October atleast). Oklahoma is a better team than Texas right now. The SOS favors the Sooners, and Oklahoma has a better PF/PA ratio than Texas. Advantage Oklahoma.
KAREEM JACKSON!!!! THATS MY BOY!!!!
Give Texas a Break
Before everyone starts touting the awesomeness of Oklahoma after last night’s win, remember this… Texas’ loss to TT came at the end of what could possibly be the toughest 4 weeks of football a team has faced in quite sometime. With that in mind I think the argument that Texas beating OK on a neutral field is why one should rank them ahead of OK is still a valid one and is why I chose to do so.
I would like...
…to agree with you, STLbama, ‘cause I can’t stand OU’s Stoopid HC, but — for all the reasons pointed out by our friends above — I just can’t. Your points about the neutral field and difficult stretch are valid…I just don’t think they hold up vs. all else. Mainly, I trust my eyes. I watched all three games, and my eyes say that I would rather play Texas or TT than OU…much as I loathe them.

Matt Hinton just wrote this...
I don’t how the BCS rankings are going to turn out when they’re released this afternoon. But I do know that the next person who touts the sanctity of head-to-head results by writing something like, “… head-to-head results have to matter. Is Texas’ titanic win over OU discarded just because it was 52 days ago?” or, “Texas is getting hosed. The one-loss Longhorns hung the only loss on the Sooners, beating them by 10 points on a neutral field,” while completely ignoring Texas’ head-to-head loss to Texas Tech, I’m going to flip. It’s going to get ugly in my immediate vicinity. Such shortsighted misdirection makes my brain hurt.
There are three teams in this “quagmire” in the Big 12 South, about which all of the following is true:
None is “more true” than the others. All three teams are 10-1. They’re all 1-1 against one another. This is not about Texas > Oklahoma on Oct. 11 because there’s another two and half months’ worth of information, much of it — like Texas Tech > Texas on Nov. 1, and Oklahoma > Texas Tech on Saturday — directly contradictory to that single afternoon in the Cotton Bowl. This is not a plea for Oklahoma. But whichever of the three you advocate to represent the South in the Big 12 Championship, it has to be based on all the information.
Another perspective
Even if you put Texas ahead of OU, I think it’s fair to say that if OU goes into Stillwater next week and takes care of business, their collective body of work will have to trump that of Texas. I think OU has a better OOC, and while Texas beat Mizzou, a Sooners win in Bedlam will be a win over the team that beat Mizzou. Flip a coin this week if you have to because it doesn’t really matter. Next week should shake it out all proper like.
"That rug really tied the room together."
My thoughts
Texas Tech won a close game at home against Texas, and then got demolished on the road against Oklahoma. They appear the weakest. Oklahoma lost by double digits at a neutral site to Texas, and blew the other Tech out at home. Texas won at a neutral site by double digits against Oklahoma, and lost a squeaker on the road. Since they didn’t have the advantage of facing either of the two others in Austin, I have to go with them.
Body of work, baby...
No you can’t disregard the head-to-head, but the body of work has to count.
Blasting TTU, blasting Cincy and TCU, loss on road at “neutral” site, blasting KU and obliterating Nebraska
>
“Neutral field win” over OU, blasting Mizzou and KU, close win over Okie St., loss to TTU

Who's best
I agree that you have to throw out head to head. If you justify ranking UT ahead of OU because they won the head-to-head, how can you justify having them ahead of TT?
In my opinion, TT played about as well as they were capable of and barely beat UT at home on a great play late. I really think if they played 10 times, UT would win more than they lose.
When UT played OU, it felt like they were just hanging on and staying in the game until late when they made some big plays and pulled ahead for the win. I think they were playing at about the top of their potential, got a special teams score, and took advantage of one of OU’s defensive leaders being out the second half. If they played 10 times, I think OU would win the majority.
If OU plays TT 10 times, they might win all 10.
Therefore, OU is #3 on my ballot. I’m having a harder time deciding between TT, USC, and PSU for #5 than I am who’s #3.
I think, again, the body of the work has to count for something
TTU obliterated Okie State, played well over their heads against the Horns, and pushed around midweights and weaklings, and ran into a buzzsaw on the road
PSU smacked Ore. St., Ohio State, Mich. State and pushed around all the other weaklings (lost a tough, close one on the road)
USC essentially has had a four game schedule: two eked out wins over PAC 10 midweights, ass whooping by the Beavers and shellacking a vastly overrated OSU.
So, seems like (to me) PSU is 5, TTU 6, USC 7

So, I'm thinkin'
1. Bama
2. OU (done far more than UF)
3. UF
4. UT
5-7 see above.

Hypocrites!
Texas beat them on the field at a neutral site.
I’ve seen and heard a lot of Bama fans complain about Florida getting all the pub and being hailed as ‘the best team in the country right now’ and even pulling some first place votes despite losing to a team we have beaten.
Texas gave Oklahoma it’s only loss and that has to be the deciding factor. You can’t have it both ways.
That don't make sense
Seriously. If you are going to rank Texas ahead of Oklahoma because Texas beat Oklahoma, then you have to rank Tech (which has the same number of losses) ahead of Texas. And then you have to rank Oklahoma above Tech. Saying that Texas’s head-to-head means they have to be ranked first among a group of three is like saying that you have to rank scissors first because they cut paper.
There really is no 'wrong' answer
so instead comparing charts, graphs and formulas, I just think Texas has earned it on the field. OU dog-stomped a team at home that Texas lost to on the last play of the game on the road.
So if there’s really not a cut-and-dried answer just look at the scoreboard. I know that leaves TT out, but the question was should OU be ranked above TX, and I think not.

A way to make everyone happy....
1. Alabama
2. OU, UT, TT
3. UF
4. PSU
5. TTU
6. USC
etc…..
I think it is better to have a tie DURING the year than at the end, and definitely better in a #2 spot than at #1! Everyone gets to move up a spot, so they are smiling. (well, we don’t move, but we are still smiling)
Texas
beat OU on a nuetral field THIS YEAR. Texas must be ahead of them as long as they both have the same won-lost record. That is the only fair way. Doesn’t matter if OU is able to blow out teams. They had a chance to beat Texas and they lost. End of story.
Texas Tech
beat UT THIS YEAR. Tech must be ahead of them as long as they both have the same won-lost record. That is the only fair way. Doesn’t matter if UT is able to blow out teams. They had a chance to beat Tech and they lost. End of story.
Oklahoma
beat TT THIS YEAR. Oklahoma must be ahead of them as long as they both have the same won-lost record. That is the only fair way. Doesn’t matter if TT is able to blow out teams. They had a chance to beat Oklahoma and they lost. End of story.
Exactly...
Exactly…
Exactly…
All three times.

TT is out
because they decided not to show for the OU game. That leaves OU & UT. Texas wins head to head. IF….TT had blown out Texas…then I’d go with OU….but TT beat UT at home on a lucky pass.
Of the 3 loses, Texas loss is the best loss, because they really could have easily won. OU was beat pretty soundly by double digits. And again TT decided not to show in Norman so they are automatically out.
It really must be Texas and guess what the BCS says the same.
Does it matter?
If they both have one conference loss, then the heads up winner goes to the Big 12 CG. So that will be Texas. Texas will whoop on Mizzu again and therefor we will be playing Texas in the NCG.
Seriously?
I don’t mean to be condescending, but did you eve read the thread?
