SEC CHAMPIONSHIP = D-FENSIVE SHOWDOWN?
the way I see it... Alabama and Florida both make it unscathed to the SEC championship game. The problem is... is that Florida's defensive is more than good enough to turn our offense into molasses and our defense is good enough to clog up their spread. Will this be a low scoring game? I think it will come down to who has the rare big plays and/or who makes the fewest big mistakes. Coach Saban will have our team ready for this battle, that I believe whole-heartedly. Personally, I am not much of a J. P. Wilson fan. In all fairness, it might have more to do with the fact that we don't run the type of offense that would allow him to match the type of numbers from Big 12 QB's, than with him playing poorly... so far the kid has gotten the job done this year. He's had an O-line that has protected him well, and consistent running backs who help carry the weight of moving the clock consuming offense (thanks again to that O-line). It's been said, "Offensive wins game, defense wins championships", but in today's college football it seems like it's all about offense! Whether its an out-score-you kind of offense or we-take-so-long-to-score-you-don't-get-a-chance-to-score offensive. =)

I still think it's all about the D
Football has changed a lot, but I would still take a solid D over a high scoring offense every time. Up to this point, no team with a great O and a weak D has won a NC. That could change if Tex Tech wins a NC, but I don’t see that happening. UF and LSU both had great Ds when they beat Ohio St and look what UGA did to HA in the Sugar Bowl last year. To quote Coach Bryant, “the same thing won that always won.”
Personally, I am just so happy that Bama football is back. We are winning and we are running the type of O and D that made us so successful in the past.
I wouldn't piss off the boys from Alabama . . .
I disagree
The only teams that have tried to run right at UF were Ole Miss and LSwho. We all know what happened against UM and LSU’s defense put the offense in such a bad spot, that they couldn’t do what they do best. As long as our defense keeps us in the game (UF scoring under 24 points) i believe our offense will pound on their defense. Just like they have done all year.
When you are an Alabama fan you have to hate Auburn, I hate Tennessee because i want to.
time of possession
bammer… I’m with ya on that. I think our offense with move against the FL defense 3 or 4 yards at a time all night, run… run… run, but I expect a scoreless 1st quarter… and see who adjusts the best after half-time.
UF has an opportunistic O
I dont know the stats, but I have seen them play enough to know that they are not a eat the clock and go for a 90 yard drive type O. They score on a few explosive plays and by turnovers on D (see the UGA game).
If our D can keep them in check and our O can keep from making stupid mistakes, then we can beat them. I think it will come down to the kicking game where we have had some bad coverage and even with all the hype Arenas still scares the shit out of me every time he catches a ball. BTW, I think Tiffin hit is first touch back of the year against Ark St and of course he missed another FG.

Defense STILL wins championships
a great D will always beat a great O. one example that comes to mind is in 2005 when Bama played Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl. Bama had the nation’s 2nd best scoring D and Texas Tech had the nation’s 2nd best scoring O. end result? Bama held Texas Tech to 10 points and won 13-10. this was when Joe Kines was still the defensive coordinator. i trust that Bama’s D can keep Florida’s O in check. not so sure that Florida’s D can keep Bama’s run game in check. a lot of Florida’s defensive stats are skewed since they get such big leads. but if Florida’s D is for real, then Bama might have a problem because of special teams. Florida has much more depth and speed. combine that with the fact that Urban Meyer emphasizes special teams, and the edge goes to Florida. if it comes down to a defensive struggle, special teams might be the difference and that would give Florida the edge. but let’s get past LSU first.
