Saban named Home Depot National Coach of the Year

Honestly, I think this is 100% deserved. Much like a number of you folks, I never imagined that we would be 12-1 at this point. I was honestly praying for 8-4 before the year started. Although I was disappointed we didn't beat Florida, if we had to lose to anyone, let it be the gators. Either way, it has been a great year and I appreciate what Coach Saban has done to bring us back from the pit of despair.
As a side note, Fox's genius columnist Lisa Horne is already picking us to lose. Personally, I'll be glad when Fox wakes up and sends her packing. Her writing is about like her looks, quite fugly.

Honestly...
I don’t mean to sound like an arrogant homer here, but quite frankly it’s a travesty if he doesn’t win all of these coach of the year awards. I mean this guy took a team full of Mike Shula players and true freshmen, and led them to a 12-0 season and to the very brink of a national title. Name me one other coach in college football this year that can even come within light years of accomplishing something along that level.

"arrogant homer"...
Honestly, that’s one of the things I like about you! That, and what you say is the absolute TRUTH of the matter.
Signed: #2 Arrogant Homer

#3 here!
If he had turned it around at 10-3, I would be saying he should be in the top 3 AT LEAST, but to have pulled all of the games out in the manner that he did, with the players that he did, in the time frame that he did…..come on!!! He is a LEGEND! No other coach in the country deserved it MORE than CNS did! The evidence is there. Who could argue???

Amazing
Incredible when you look at the past five years to think the team was this close to the BCSCG:
2007: 7-6
2006: 6-7
2005: 10-2
2004: 6-6
2003: 4-9

If you consider...
…that we were three missed FGs away from 7-5 in 2005 and a couple of stops away from 6-7 in 2003 — especially since we were only in danger of losing one of the games we won this year — it’s even more indicative that a streak of mediocrity has been shattered.

I heart CNS
I was in my local Barnes & Noble and a sportswriter with LSU ties (sour grapes) was there and was predicting that CNS would be looking for a new challenge at Notre Dame next year, after thery fire Charlie. I pointed out just one of the many flaws with that reasoning: Charlie will probably get fired next December and the vacancy would require the prospective job applicants to visit the north pole (“South” Bend) in December. In the words of my niece, who attended ND—“You don’t get chapped lips there. You get chapped anything-that-the-air-touches-even-momentarily for 9 months of the year in South Bend. It is the coldest, windiest, place in the world” Oh yeah, I really see CNS and Terry moving from their lovely lakefront home to that place.

CNS is the man!
people will argue that coaches like Paul Johnson are more deserving. but the reality is that CNS probably could have done what Paul Johnson did at georgia tech or what any other coach has done this year. however, you can’t say the reverse of that statement is true. no other coach in the country could have began the year with a unanimous (excluding espn) #1 recruiting class AND led a program that has been struggling since Gene Stallings left to a 12-0 record in the SEC. and on top of that, he had the team go toe to toe (leading thru 3 quarters to be exact) with the best team in the country. all this at a program where the expectations are probably the biggest in the nation.
here’s to believing that CNS and staff will develop ample replacements for R. Johnson, B. Greenwood, A. Smith, A. Caldwell, M. Davis, T. McCall, N. Walker and JPW.

Home Depot Coach of the Year...
…I saw Tommy Tuberville working at Home Depot yesterday. He was having a hard time getting the older employees to work with the new floor manager, but he looked OK in orange, and his hearing is excellent.

But...
Could he recommend the proper Yella’ Wood for the new deck chairs on the A.U. Titanic?

Well Deserved
Coach Saban deserves coach of the year. He’s done more for our program in a shorter time frame than any coach has ever done here. Nobody, including some of our most diehard, optimistic fans though that we would go undefeated in the regular season and be ranked #1. This year has been well worth the rebuilding year last season and the money our athletic department pays him. Nobody can say he isn’t worth the money anymore.
