Tentative 2010 Alabama Crimson Tide Football Schedule
Since OTS put up the tentative 2009 schedule, I figured we'd put up what we know of the 2010 schedule as well, which is 10 out of 12 games.
Home:
Penn State
Auburn
Florida
Ole Miss
Mississippi State
Away:
Duke
Arkansas
LSU
Tennessee
South Carolina
I made no attempt at trying to order them or anything, I'm just throwing out what we know will be on the schedule. That leaves what will almost certainly be two TBA cupcakes at home.
FanPosts are just that; posts created by the fans. They are in no way indicative of the opinions of SBN and the authors of Roll Bama Roll.

YES!!!!
As a season ticket holder, let me tell you this is a great schedule. For years we have gone through this awesome year, mediocre year pattern as far as home games are concerned. Odd years are filled with star studded showdowns, while even years are full of games of lesser interest. To know that Penn State and Florida are on the 2010 home schedule gets me pumped!
36-0

It is an educated guess...
…but we have seen confirmations of the Duke and Penn State games and the Florida and SoCar games are based on the current rotation which I don’t imagine will be changed. As always though with schedules, we’re just guessing.
I guess we’re going to make ACC teams a fixture on our schedule. It’ll be the fifth year in a row we have an ACC team and if we pick one up in 2011, it’ll be seven years in a row:
06: Duke
07: FSU
08: Clemson
09: VaTech
10: Duke
11: n/a
12: GaTech

Three straight losses....
….dating back to 1946. Yeah, I’m too young to remember any of them, but I know my history.

while we're talking revenge
I’d rather us schedule Texas for a regular season OOC game. That’s one we really need to fix.

While we're at it, let's just get out of the SEC for two years and go on a "revenge rampage"
2009:
Birmingham AC (2-3)
Camp Gordon (GA) (0-1)
Central Florida (0-1)
Georgia Navy Pre Flight (0-1) (May not be able to redeem ourselves here…)
Michigan (1-2)
Missouri (1-2)
No. Illinois (0-1)
Oklahoma (1-2-1)
Rice (0-3) (Get Tommy Lewis, or a decendant thereof, on the sideline)
TCU (2-3)
Villanova (0-1)
2010:
Boston College (1-3)
Carlisle Indian School (0-1) (May never be able to redeem ourselves here, either…)
Cumberland (0-1) (Yes, the same one that lost to GT 222-0, but 14 years later)
La Tech (2-3)
Minnesota (0-1)
New Orleans AC (0-1)
Notre Dame (1-5)
Oklahoma State (0-1)
Texas (0-7-1) (We need to get on this one quickly, we’ve got some work to do)
UCLA (1-2)
Wisconsin (0-1)
So there you go, two seasons to get some pride back. Make it happen, Mal…

We lost straight up...
to them in 97 and 99, and lost via forfeit in 93. So the record should be 3-2, but we owe them one anyway.

I have to stick up for MN a bit on that one...
I actually contacted some of their bloggers and posted to some message boards asking about that. They said it was played merely as a thank you to the state of Tennessee for hosting them as it is one of Tennessee’s official state songs. They said they had no idea Alabama fans would take it as an affront. I have to believe them because I know NOTHING about what songs would be potentially offensive to other Big 10 schools.
by Nico2.0 on Dec 11, 2008 1:13 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
i live here in TN and rest assured
its an offical song, but not of the state. It is only played for the “university of tennessee”. it has nothing to do with the “state” of tennessee. The state recognizes it as a “state song” due to the fact that its based on Tennessee. If they wanted to honor and thank the state for hosting them they should have played Tennessee waltz.
I was there and F them for doing that, just ignorant and premeditated.

Woah
I have to disagree. I went to public school here in Tennessee and we were taught it there, in elementary school, so it is associated with the state and not the University.
by Bobby Briggs on Dec 11, 2008 2:34 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Im from TN as well. Clearly it is most famously associated with the university, especially in a football context. It is a general state song but not the preffered or most famous.
by bamainexile on Dec 11, 2008 3:16 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Wikipedia (so you know it's accurate)
says that it is one of the state songs…
by Bama Hawkeye on Dec 11, 2008 3:16 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
like i said if you could read
it is recognized as a “state” song, but if they wanted to honor our “state” they would/should have played tennessee waltz, a song more associated with our “state” not a university.

Football
Since the song doesn’t reference General Neyland, running through the T, playing next to the river, a checkerboard endzone, etc. I would say its an understandable mistake their band could have made.

I for one am
glad to see Bama play Penn State again. It brings back memories of watching them play back in the day with the Bear on the sideline.
That's the paradox of success. The moment you stop to enjoy it, you are in trouble. You have to keep moving forward. It's not what you have done that's important. It's where you are going.

The funny part is...
…that the away game at Duke will be one of the toughest tickets on the schedule since their stadium is tiny.
by Nico2.0 on Dec 10, 2008 6:54 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
And it's obviously going to come
the year after my Duke friend graduates.

It's also funny...
…that any ticket to a Duke football game would be considered “tough.” But you will be right…

Too true.
It’s a lovely campus though and Bama fans will really enjoy their time there.. I’ve been there twice and look forward to going back if I can land a ticket.

Duke is usually . . .
open to moving their home games to a larger venue, like Charlotte or Atlanta, so that is a possibility as well. I know that one time FSU played them in Jacksonville, FL instead of Durham, NC.
by Lawboy on Dec 11, 2008 8:59 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Cutcliffe has said...
…they aren’t moving this one. He more or less said if they’re going to grow their program and be taken seriously that they have to stop selling out for cash and stop giving up home field advantage.
by Nico2.0 on Dec 11, 2008 9:22 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
While I think it will be cool...
…to play in Wallace Wade Stadium, at around 34,000, it’s one of the smallest stadiums in D1-A football. Many times opposing fans outnumber Duke’s, or it’s about even, so I don’t see great home field advantage there. To grow that program, they need to expand the stadium to make teams want to do a home and home with them.

Home field advantage...
…probably has a different dimension for them though. If they play at DWS, it won’t be an intimidating atmosphere, but they have the advantage of not having to travel and not having to play in a place where their fans are outnumbered something to the tune of 10-1. I think their AD said something about people are never going to want to buy season tickets if they’re always moving their good games.

considering
Buying Season tix to Duke football for that one game in 2 years.
It is a tiny stadium, It’s ringed by a track and has the Track & Field sandpits behind the endzones. It should be quite an experience, i think.

Here was their price structuring for this year
- Preferred Season Ticket – $140
- Blue Zone Ticket (Sec. 30&31) – $100
- General Admission (Sec. 14-19) – $90
Not too bad. Might as well buy the season and try to recoup some of the costs instead of paying $150 for one.

The GA seating is pretty good too.

The orange end zone seats are General Admission. So basically where the Bryant-Denny student section is.

…when Duke sees a sudden upsurge of season tickets being bought that year. You think they might figure it out? We should definitely go for it or else we’re not getting in.

the lone concessionstand is that gray box undernieth WillCall. I didn’t even remember seeing the West Gate when i toured the campus this past spring, so there might be one there.

What is interesting to me
is that the shedule I saw had us playing Auburn in the middle of the season. Does this say to auburn, the SEC, and the country that Auburn is no longer our main objective . A win against them is no longer good enough to anchour our season with. We must win the SEC and ultimately the BCSCG. That is what I take from this shedule if what I saw was correct.

That is a brutal skeddie.
I’m not writing off the Duke game as a “w”…if Cut stays, they will only get better. The talent disparity is huge, but he knows us very very well. But, 2010 is a long way off. By then I think you have:
1. Urban to Notre Dame (because they are about to win their 2nd MNC in 3 years).
2. Ole Miss resurgent with the Giggity
3. Arkansas with a legitimate squad
4. Brady as the new Penn State HC (meet the new boss, same as the old boss…but younger).
5. UT in the toilet (Welcome to your own private Shula there Vols).
6, And the Barn still muddled from a new system, new coach, and flagging talent.
