Merry Chizikmas!

ed.- bumped from the fanposts

And now for a quick gander toward those denizens of the blogosphere who've spent far too much of their lives on the wrong side of I-65 and are dealing with what happened yesterday.

From the Bleachers

This is a terrible hire, and a monstrously bad decision on the part of an Athletic Director who shouldn't be put in charge of managing a janitorial staff of two, much less a multi-million dollar athletics program.

Joe Cribs Car Wash

I don't know how to react. It doesn't seem real. It doesn't seem like they could possibly be so shortsighted. I'm going to spend tonight trying to figure out how to react. That, and drinking.
The Pigskin Pathos
I have tried to be very Zen about this whole circus/ blind circle jerk of ineptitude rumored to be a coaching search. But that was when I still had hope a large rabbit was going to be pulled from Jay Jacob's hat and paraded in front of the vultures of the Alabama media as the savior of Auburn football. Gene Chizik is not a rabbit. He is a one-legged hamster that spends most of his day running in his stationary wheel and the rest sleeping in his own excrement. He smells bad and has no friends.

Fields of Donahue

No. No. No. Nooooo.

AuburnTron

Winless in the Big 12. Marginal recruiter, at best. No personality. No charisma. No national recognition. Nothing positive emerges from this. This proves beyond the shadow of a doubt that we have the worst, most inept, most pathetic athletic department, combined with the most damaging outside booster influence in all of college football.

The War Eagle Reader

I wanted my life back. I got kicked in the balls. … the balls of my Auburn heart.

A Lifetime of Defeats

i am going to get so f*cking drunk tonight that hopefully i'll have killed so many braincells that i'll forget how much i care about Auburn football when i wake up and i'll be able to move on with my life without ever worrying about silly sh*t like national titles and respect and winning football games.

And, for a far more detailed and passionate examination into the reaction of those damned to haunt the plains I offer the following links to relevant comment threads on the hire.

What a beautiful synopsis!

That one was the funniest...

This read like one of OTS’s classic meltdown threads. AuburnTron sees them taking up the mantle of

“…….the most damaging outside booster influence in all of college football.”

We’re very glad to give that over. Welcome to the times of your life, Aubarn.

Good stuff

although I find it interesting that every Barner seems to blame the administration for this. Never coming close to considering that maybe its the fact that Tubbs was the best they could get, that nobody good wants to coach at Auburn, that they ARE stepchildren and always well be. No, that can’t be it, its the admins fault, they want us to fail.

Finebaum on Tuesday

I can’t wait to see what Finebaum will say, but what could he add to trump their own blogs?

now for a tour of a few other SBNation blogs and what they have to say...

The Iowa State blog, Clone Chronicles, asks the question we’ve all been asking….

Who’s honestly more confused in this clusterf*** of a coaching circus?

And Team Speed Kills has the answer….

I’ve been turning it over in my mind all day, trying to make sense of it — Gene Chizik to Auburn, Gene Chizik to Auburn — and finally gave up. It makes no sense.

Although the reaction over at Missouri blog, Rock M Nation, is more akin to the general populace…

I’m speechless.

Closer to home DawgSports makes a typically profound observation…

Chizik’s hiring is further proof that people are more comfortable with the demonstrated incompetence they know than almost any unknown quantity (Exhibit B? Wade Phillips, of course.)

And the Valley Shook points out something most have left unspoken…

I think the Black Coaches Association will and probably should make a big stink over this hire. Not all hirings of white coaches are offensive, but when a retread like Gene Chizik gets a big pay raise after failing at his previous job, while coaches like Turner Gill and Dewayne Walker are passed over, they have every reason to complain.

ATVS is also planning a Gene Chizik firing watch graphic that “will count up the time, 1970’s Iran Hostage Crisis-style” from his hiring until his inevitable dismissal. How awesome is that?

Remember...

how, during our coaching search, we caught so much crap for seemingly running around in circles? Spurned by Petrino, spurned by RichRod, (apparently) spurned by Saban. Even through all of that, there was no panicking. We went into the bowl game with an interim coach and ended the year without a head coach. Then, the New Year comes and out pops Coach Nick Saban.

Auburn, on the other hand, is spurned by their first choice (Muschamp) and all of the sudden they’re in panic mode. Out pops…Gene Chizik? Really? The man who went 0-8 in the Big 12 without playing Oklahoma, Texas, or Texas Tech? Really? I normally don’t like laughing at our opponents’ misfortune, but it’s hard not to in this case.

I love...

…how you see it coming out both his nostrils as well. I love his hat. I love how his ‘friend’ looks like an early-80s Bono in mid-croon. And I love how the guy on the right looks like he has a naughty word on his shirt, but doesn’t. That pic is as Auburn as Shug, Dye, and Aubie. Thanks for sharing, kleph.

New Friend

There was once a time when you could asked me about Jay Jacobs. And I would ask “Who is this man you speak of?” Well, last saturday I realized that he was my friend all along. He that has brought us an early christmas present is nothing short of brilliant, generous, and just a stand out guy. He said that he was going to find the right coach for the job and boy did he deliver. This Brilliant Architect of college athletics has given us what we have been craving, at least 4 years of total silence from the Auburn Nation (2 for Chizik’s tenure, and 2 more for breaking in the new coach.) Not since Jolly ‘ole Saint Nick brought us bountiful gifts of Julio Jones and Terrence “Mount” Cody have i been so Jolly. I will be sending him a Christmas Card, inclosed in it will be a $25 dollar gift card to Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Here’s to ya good friend!!

With love,

Your #1 Fan!!!
