There has been a lot of talk at BJ Scott being the secondary receiver to help Julio. I ran across this quote:

"Former Vigor standout B.J. Scott is telling friends back home that he would be interested in switching from wide receiver to cornerback for his sophomore season at Alabama.

It's unclear if Scott has discussed a move with Crimson Tide coaches or if there is a plan to act it out in practices before this season's Sugar Bowl. "

Interesting, but not too surprising many people thought he would make a better defensive player, than a wide receiver.

We definitely need some help

Hoping that Alonzo Lawrence can be a shutdown corner.

His speed....

would be plus and backing up Javier, then being a 2 year starter. He is to good of an athlete to stand on the sidelines. I’m sure CNS will find a place for him if he works hard enough.

Well, are you gonna pull them pistols, or whistle dixie?

It's a given...

The move of Scott to cornerback is a given at this point. That was largely the plan all along — star him off at wide receiver and then move him to cornerback — and it was made concrete by Scott’s lack of development at wide receiver this year.

Honestly, it’s probably a good move. Scott is an unreal athlete, and someone who is probably going to be a much better cornerback than a receiver. His athleticism was great, but the hands and route-running never quite came around. That won’t be an issue at corner, and judging by his high school film, he’s pretty fundamentally sound while playing DB.

I think you can rest assured that, with him moving in the Spring, he’ll see a lot of playing time in the defensive backfield next year.

Then who does that leaeve at WR....

its a must that we get someone to complement Julio.

When you are an Alabama fan you are expected to hate Auburn, I hate Tennessee because I want to.

Also

don’t forget about Dre Kirkpatric. Don’t want to jinx it but looks good for us getting him, he has the physical tools to play right away.

Most Likely

The most likely answer that is currently on the roster is probably Darius Hanks. He has improved tremendously from beginning the season to the end. He will be a sophmore next year, and with another year of strength and conditioning he will hopefully be more ready to contribute. The other option that is on the roster currently is Earl Alexander who has shown improvement over the season, but is not nearly consistent enough. Other guys to keep in mind that are on the roster are Jackson and Gibson.

Obviously, the other answer would be to look at the players that are not on the roster, that of course would be the players we are recruiting. We should have another extraordinarily talented freshmen wide receiver class again. The important thing to remember is that whoever comes in, even if it is Reuben Randle will almost certainly not be Julio. The most likely answer, at least for next season will probably come from the current roster.

Speaking of Hanks...

I heard that he suffered from some kind of stomach/intestinal illness mid- or early-season and that’s why he dropped a bunch of weight. Did anybody else hear this?

I heard...

…the same thing didn’t happen to Mark Mangino.

LOL!

Yeah, and I think Charlie Weiss’ manly crotch-fat-hump confirms that it didn’t happen to him, either.

We just need to

get BJ Scott on the field. I think our DB’s for next year and then years to come look awesome- with or without Dre K. Once we get the best secondary in the country we can shut down the UF’s and OU’s of the world. This is Alabama Football.

well... my 2 cents

I don’t think we will find a compliment receiver to julio unless we go to a more pass oriented offense. most of our receivers seem like downfield blockers, so no wonder one could easily switch to CB. now… I’m no football guru, but I think we used the pass sparingly this year. sometimes in that surprise 1st down HAI JULIO grab bag… or the omg it’s 3rd and 7 and we need a 1st down. I don’t recall many 2nd down pass calls… we like to plow the ball into the defense and mixed in a pass to exploit a defense expecting run. almost any quarterback can hand off a ball consistently… I think the less known wide receivers will shine as brightly as their new quarterback. Julio is in a class of his own.

I don't...

…expect a great deal more passing with a new QB and mostly new OL.

I can't wait

till next year!!!! I wonder what the A-day game will be like… after what we did this year, and the long, long lay off until next season… us fans are going to be tweaking and twitching like a person 3 days into quitting smoking!

It'll be a struggle early...

We’ll have to replace three starters, and as good as Andre and Caldwell are, those replacements won’t come easy.

Moreover, there’s a reason as to why we are going to sign somewhere between six to eight offensive linemen in this recruiting class, and it’s because this group that we have now isn’t that great. Johnson will return as a starter, and I think it’s fairly safe to say that James Carpenter, the JUCO transfer, will too. However, from there, it’s really hard to say, other than to note that the line will consist mainly of freshman and true freshman. Even Drew Davis, who did a pretty admirable job in 2008, is far from a guarantee to start.

I figure the line will play much better on down the stretch if they can stay healthy, but early on it will be a struggle. We’re probably going to field at least three starters who have never really played at this level before, and that will result in plenty of growing pains.

what about

tyler love? I remember him being a big time recruit… but reading or hearing something about him being injured

by K. brevis on Dec 17, 2008 12:31 AM CST up reply actions

Tyler Love

Tyler Love was wearing a black jersey most of the season, and almost certainly will take a red shirt. The other player to watch that was given a lot less hype is John Michael Boswell. He was also a true freshmen last year, and saw a decent amount of playing time at tackle. He apparently did a great job of picking up the schemes

The Passing Game

I think clearly the passing game will become much more prevalent in the coming years at Alabama. Saban did a great job of developing wide receivers at LSU, and is already doing a great job of recruiting them to Alabama.

I am certain there will be more emphasis put on balancing the run and pass, as Saban has said in the past. It is easy to forget, but Saban also had some really good passing teams at LSU (2001 and 2003). It should come as no surprise that both those teams had good balance on offense, and went on to win the SEC.

Your right. John Parker Wilson was a managing QB but he wasn't a heisman candidate for a reason

That reason being he is not an outstanding QB. McElroy god forbid will be worse. We run alot next year but as the season progresses we start airing it out. Two years from now you will see some florida packages.

stars in my eyes!

florida packages = star jackson!
