Favorite Music of '08: The Sword
So far we've had some banjo-driven indie-pop, some high energy Aussie stuff, and some southwest/gypsy/flamenco rock action. Time to appease the metalheads out there. Yes the album cover is cartoonish. The Sword doth rock mightily though. Anyway, I stumbled upon The Sword earlier this year when some friends wanted to go see the band that was opening up for them. I don't even remember who the opener was, but I left that show a fan of The Sword.
Here's the impossibly long titled "Fire Lances of the Ancient Hyperzephyrians" by THE SWORD from the album Gods of the Earth:

the intro to iron swan is stellar
i could never get used to homeboy’s vocals though
im not impressed with your performance
That is sweet....Best one yet.
Can’t believe that I’ve never heard of them…I’m usually attuned to all that which is heavy. Sounds like a really riffy version of mid-period Trouble, early Pentagram or Electric Wizard, e.g., a thrashier NWOBHM (I’m sure you know, but….New Wave of British Heavy Metal)
"penis fish"…google that, and the candiru is the first thing that pops up

Oddly...
Oddly enough, they’re from Austin…which isn’t exactly where you’d expect this sound to be coming from.
