It has been confirmed that Alabama v. Virginia Tech will open the 2009 season in the Georgia Dome, and an official announcement should be coming tomorrow by representatives of the two school.

The game will be broadcast either on ABC or ESPN -- I would assume ABC -- and a match-up of two pre-season top ten teams is expected.

Again in the GA Dome?!

I just don’t like the idea of y’all getting an extra practice game against the ACC in the Dome – it gives your team an opportunity to play on the Field Turf before the annual Bama/Gator Classic in December!

Get used to it...

In all seriousness, it’s just something that’s going to happen now. Saban has long targeted the Georgia recruiting base, and now that he is finally at a school close enough to the state to really tap it, he’s making a lot of efforts to make some big splurges there. That is why we are playing all of these games in the Dome, and another big reason as to why GT has remained on the schedule. Put that all together with our trips to the SEC Title Game, and there’s a pretty big Georgia presence emerging there.

what do you mean here?

“and another big reason as to why GT has remained on the schedule.”

goes GT stand for Georgia Tech? I looked up alabama’s future schedule and GTech isn’t on our schedule until 2013 and 2014

That's right...

From the best of my understanding, based on what I have read, the Georgia Tech games were not actually finalized until Saban arrived, and he was pretty adamant about making sure they took place.

For the naysayers...

…who are always jabbering about Coach Saban not staying long at Alabama, I would say this is a strong testament to his dedication to doing so. He’s arranging schedules to his liking 5-6 years into the future!!!

For VA Tech?

They can’t even sell Orange Bowl tickets for more than a few bucks.

…will be through the roof though.

Excellent...

It’s a good name team for us to open the season with, and gain early poll traction (yes, since we’re relevant once again, we have to worry about this stuff). Considering the linguine-like strength of the rest of our OOC skeddie we needed this to happen.

"penis fish"…google that, and the candiru is the first thing that pops up

It's Forward Thinking....

Look at what the Clemson game did for us this year. You play a big game right out of the gate, win, and everybody is talking about you. If you lose, then you’ve got the rest of the year to make it up (ie: Florida’s lost to Ole Miss) and right the ship. And by the end of the year it is not nearly as bad. Very smart.

Well, are you gonna pull them pistols, or whistle dixie?
