Lane Kiffin
Did anyone see the Lane Kiffin presser? It was oddly familiar. Yes, in fact it was very similar to Mal Moore introducing Mike Shula. A nice looking young man from a fine football family. A guy that made a name for himself by being the son of a coach with a great reputation rather than by actually proving himself on the field. Yes, both coaches with no experience as the head man at the college level. Great move Mike Hamilton (UT AD) I think you have found a winner in LK. Even if his dad comes (which is still up in the air) the problem with UT is not defense and its not recruiting. They need a real OC. So as I see it, UT will field a team led by a man with no experience, with no offense, and with a solid D. Wow, this is Mike Shula all dressed up in orange. I say he is fired within 4 yrs.
Oh and Clemson. Obviously I was pulling for Dabo since he is a Bama man, but I think they jumped the gun a bit. The ACC is such a desirable conference, bc being average means you may win the whole damn thing and wind up in a BCS bowl.
Two bad coaching decisions made on the same day. I am now totally convinced a coach is basically everthing. Other issues will all work out with the right head man.

I agree
we could be proven wrong over time, but I think the Kiffin hire may be one of the largest blunders in Tennessee history. I believe his resume was based on his associations (Sarkasian, Carroll, etc.) than his own body of work. Just because someone coached/recruited well ast Southern Cal (Ed Orgeron) doesn’t man they are head coach material.
Though, the thought of Coach O back in the SEC makes my day. Heis freaking hilarious.
Good for Dabo; I hope he does well and comes in #2 in recruiting and the nation every season (behind Bama of course).
Alabama judges its team by national and SEC titles. Auburn judges its team by how many times it beats Alabama. You tell me who the dominant team in the state is.

Support
I fully support the hiring of Kiffin. He is supposedly going to bring in a West Coast offense that is always effective at the college level (Croom, Callahan, Borges, etc..). He is going to bring in his father, one of the great defensive minds of the NFL, who has never had to deal with the restrictions of limited practice time and dealing with teenagers. Not to mention Kiffin is a former NFL head coach, and we all know that always works out. He is the second incarnation of Pete Carroll!
I think it is a great hire, then again I am Alabama fan!

Not always...
We seem to have done pretty good with an ex-NFL coach:)

yeah
but there’s more to it than Saban being ex NFL. Saban has a brain in his head and heart! I mean the timeout to freeze the punter and the real attempt didn’t make it.

Kiffin
I too, saw a similarity in the news conference that reminded me of Shula, it was the same deer in the headlights look that I remember seeing from Shula, kind of like a, “Wow they really gave me this job, now what?look” then I saw his wife and I dont remember anything else from that point on,WOW! I give him 3 years max, it wont take long for them to see they made a big mistake. RTR,

UT fans think this guy is a god

My UT buddies
say it was totally financial. LK had no buyout since he was already unemployed. They owe Phil $6 mill, plus some money to the assistants. The UT AD is a marketing guy and relatively young himself. He thinks LK will be able to smooth talk the big boosters. Maybe LK’s wife will get into a UT cheerleader outfit like Pat Summit did two yrs ago. LK’s presser relative to Saban’s first presser was totally ridiculous. He had no plan. Meanwhile, Sabans process is well underway. As a Bama fan, I think this is a great hire as well.
I wouldn't piss off the boys from Alabama . . .

You are so sexist...
I can do a sports related job besides cheerleading. Sports Information Director since I was in Broadcasting would be perfect.

speaking of...
what the hell is up with the high pitched nasal voices of the cheerleaders? i thought the point of being a cheerleader is to get the fans to be loud! when i hear them on the sidelines, i just want them to shut up!
i grew up with cheerleaders being loud with alto type voices. we were able to get the crowd on their feet without sounding like we had sucked on helium balloons before the game.
