When you are an Alabama fan you have to hate Auburn, I hate Tennessee because i want to.
The $72,000 question is...
why isn’t Florida better in rushing defense? They’ve won game by about 4 TDs lately, which indicates the other teams are throwing a lot. And yet, they give up over 100 ypg? Doesn’t make sense to me. I’ll have to look into this a little more.

Florida
Florida’s rush defense is allowing 3.26 yards an attempt (4th in the SEC and 16th in the nation). Those are pretty good numbers for a rush defense. If you are comparing stats always use averages, rather than totals, they are a much better indicator of a team.
I think the big problem for Florida is that they are going to be out a few defensive linemen, and maybe even moving super DE Jermaine Cunningham to the inside of the line. I think that could greatly affect not only their ability to stop the run, but also their ability to rush the passer. Definitely something to look at as the game gets closer.
We have had trouble at times
Against speed rushers so moving him into the inside against an All-American Center, is just fine with me.

No kidding...
…especially considering the other defesive end is All-American Carlos Dunlap. They have some excellent speed on the outside of that line. I think you would have to worry about Drew Davis. He has been great at run blocking, but he has definitely been killed against some of the better rushers.
I think the reason
that we give up more rushing yards than expected is that teams go in with the philosophy of “we need to run the ball and control the clock in order to keep Tebow and the offense off the field.”
Yea, but once the wheels are blown off...
Which lately has been pretty quickly, that trend shouldn’t hold up. Citadel ran at will, for instance.

exactly.
the fact that Florida goes up by so many points so early should only help Florida’s rushing D stats, not hurt them. I really think that if we don’t make stupid mistakes, then this game will be too close for comfort for the gators.
but
using your logic then, our pass defense should be hurt by those big leads. Yet, they have allowed less passing yardage than Bama has.
Not really so
If you are down 40 points and getting your ass handed to you, would you really leave your game and start throwing every down? No, because then you would go 3 and out and put your battered defense back on the field after running only 15 seconds off the clock and give it back to the potent offense that has been killing you.
We have given up a lot of “garbage yards” meaning that the game is out of hand, we have a lot of backups in, and the opponent is hitting 7 yards runs. I’m not making excuses, I think our defense has played unbelievaly well this season – just one season removed from a disastrous defensive showing.
Also, our DBs are young, but pretty darn good. Haden and Jenkins will both eventually be all SEC, if not better.
I like the penalties stat...
Here’s hoping the Gators keep up that average and commit some costly ones at very inopportune times. Time of possession IS going to be very important in this game.

It's all about Crimson - ROLL TIDE!!!
Penalty stat question?
Does the kickoff out-of-bounds count toward penalty yardage? If so, that would explain us leading the conference. If not, then our real penalty yardage per game is more like 120 YPG, because we are good for at leat 2 of those per game. It’s ridiculous. Y’all have a great return man too, so I’m sure yall will get to start at the 40 a couple times without even having to return the ball.
We are also good for a couple illegal shifts, precedures, and block in the back on a punt and/or kickoff per game.
gonna be more...
if the trend holds true about kicking out of bounds rather than kick where Arenas can get his hands on the ball. he’s gonna be one dangerous return man if the gators let him get his hands on the ball. (which of course, i am hoping for cuz i want Bama to win)
Ahhh, but the blocks in the back they don't call...
usually end up as 6 points going the other way. DO NOT KICK TO BRANDON JAMES. Dammit. Do I have to start a whole thread (ahem highlight reel), explaining this?!!
Sanity restored…now, where’s my beer.

I don't understand...
…why people think Auburn is so bad. I mean, they were fifth on two of these lists, which is more than you can say for…um…Kentucky.

I think the 5-7 record gave it away.
