A heads up if you live in the Montgomery area and wanted to watch the Bama game and have Charter Cable

WCOV FOX20 coming off Charter Cable in Montgomery

Press Release

Montgomery, Alabama

December 22, 2008

WCOV-FOX20 announced today that as of January 1, 2009, Charter Cable will no longer be carrying WCOV-FOX20 in Montgomery and the surrounding area.  “We’ve spent several weeks negotiating in good faith with Charter but have been unable to reach an agreement.  We have reached agreements with most of the cable operators in the area, including Knology, Troy Cable, Brighthouse, Comlink, Sky Cable, Galaxy Cable and others.” said David Woods, President of WCOV FOX20.

Woods said “We find it unsettling that Charter Cable recently announced a rate increase in Montgomery of several dollars per month, yet they have been unable to reach an agreement with WCOV-FOX20.  Without WCOV-FOX20,  Charter customers in Montgomery will no longer be able to watch the popular programs such as The FOX20 News at Nine, American Idol, 24, House, Judge Mathis, People‘s Court, The Sunday NFL games, the NFC Championship game, NASCAR and The Daytona 500, and the Sugar Bowl with the Alabama Crimson Tide on January 2nd.”

Charter customers have several options in which to tune in to WCOV-FOX20 and watch American Idol and the Sugar Bowl.  In Montgomery WCOV-FOX20 will continue to be carried on Knology Cable (356-1000), many viewers can use an over-the-air antenna or they can install DishTV satellite, which carries the local Montgomery stations.  In Troy, WCOV-FOX20 will still be carried on Troy Cablevision at 566-3310.

For more information, please call David Woods at 334-288-7020

I'm sure we all know my feelings on Charter...

…or THE WORST CABLE COMPANY IN THE HISTORY OF CABLE, as I like to call them.

gonna have to disagree with ya.

Insight cable in KY is the absolute worst. In order to just get espn and espn2, you have to pay somewhere around 105 dollars a month (comes with internet, but still). I’m not able to afford that, but fortunately they do have espn360 so i didn’t miss out on the games on those channels. The internet is absolutely awful. We have to reset the internet at minimum once a day, and almost all of the tv channels we do have (except cbs, fox, etc) all come in fuzzy.

don’t think you can top that.

My cable co. doesn't offer pay-per-view!

If we are on pay-per-view, I cannot see the game! (I went to the one’s on ppv this year, but next year I may not get that lucky with scheduling.) Doesn’t top you financially—-my cable is CHEAP—but it is frustrating.

Considered Dish or Direct, but this is just so cheap, and if we keep winning it will be only a few games….

Directv w/ gameplan

is nice. but is expensive, i pay 80 a month for HBO and the news and sports channels, (not the “regional pack” that includes espnu though, thats 10 more bucks and a whole nother crock of stuff), and a DVR, and i DONT have high def service yet. i am waiting for my CONTRACT to expire first, then i will try to use my end-of-contract leverage to make them “give” me a high def receiver so i can then pay 10 dollars more a month for high def service. this is as opposed to buying their receiver, which only works to get their signal, from them for 250 dollars so i can still pay an increase in my service fees, to them.

cheap, contract free, functioning, cable? then keep it.

I ONLY watch CFB

So when you crunch the numbers, it gets even worse in my house! I would be paying a YEARLY (Direct/Dish) price for 3-4 months. I LOVE, LOVE, the Tide, but that would just be dumb. It comes out cheaper to go to the games that are on ppv, or just hang out with friends——I do have a few. =)

FYI

The same thing is going to happen in Bham Charter with CBS, which will effect all the SEC games next fall. I saw an advertisement on CBS on Christmas Eve to call two guys with Charter and complain. If anyone knows any more about this please advise.

Well, are you gonna pull them pistols, or whistle dixie?

Being that far off...

…I wouldn’t worry about it. It’ll get resolved or there will be rioting in the streets of Birmingham.
