Auburn Hires Gus Malzahn as OC
According to al.com, Auburn has hired Gus Malzahn as their new offensive coordinator and an official announcement will be coming soon.
Malzahn spent a year at Arkansas in 2006 and has been at Tulsa the last two years. Interesting hire for sure.

I..
am excited about this one as and Auburn fan. With a fresh start, if Auburn will give control over the offense to Malzahn, this could be a game changer for us. If they stifle him and force him into a run heavy offense and forces a staff onto him then it is just more of the same bullshit and it won’t work out.
Oklahoma was once a run heavy school much like Auburn and now they are a balanced attack offense that sticks 40 on everyone, I might be delusional, but if they hand the reins to Malzahn, this could be that changing point for Auburn. I am not saying that Auburn will put up 40 on everyone due to difference in defense, but it would be nice to score 14 on offense every game.

It's a great hire for AU....
….and I would have to believe that Malzahn isn’t stupid enough to walk into the same kind of situation he was in at Arkansas with Auburn.

Will they call it
the WildTiger or the WildWarEagle offense?
I guess you heard Fat Joe left Atlantic.

Hopefully...
From an unbiased standpoint, they give the guy time to INSTALL his offensive system. It’s highly unlikely he’s going to walk right in the door and hang 50+ on opposing defenses, especially with the current talent they have.
IMO, Franklin never had the time to build up his offense in terms of talent, nor did he have the time to get everyone into the rhythm. His first season at Troy St. was a disaster, but his second season was phenomenal in terms of offense.

I will reserve judgment
Remember, this guy is only a couple years removed from being a high school coach, and I’m not sure this isn’t Tony Franklin, Part 2. Still, he had success at Tulsa, and I think it’s fair to say the problems associated with his tenure at Arkansas weren’t primarily his fault.

from a biased standpoint
i hope they do undermine him, that boosters dont show him any love and consistently remind him they call the shots, and try to force “their” staff on him, and that he, like T Franklin, never gets a chance to have the barn putting up points like the golden hurricanes did this year…

What i quote don't understand is
Why are the barners thinking this guy is the coming savior? Come on…its Tulsa…and its the spread…again! Looking at Tulsa’s schedule they played nobody! Arkansas and ECU were the best two teams they faced all year and both times the offense was held in check and they lost both games. Add a 70-30 thrashing at the hands of HOUSTON, im not thinking that so great.
Sure 10-3 is pretty good (a lot better than 5-7) and the offense did put up huge numbers but im just wondering why Auburn is hell bent on going to the spread. You’d think after such a terrible experience with the spread this year, they would have learned their lesson. I guess not.
This guy is a much better hire for them than Pat Nix but before you start thanking your lucky star lets see if he can win first.
When you are an Alabama fan you are expected to hate Auburn, I hate Tennessee because I want to.
