How Alabama Can Win
Here's a short piece we did for the New York Times college sports blog "The Quad."
Spencer Hall of EDSBS did the companion piece for Florida.

Just had to put Futbol in there, right?
I kid. You and Spencer did a terrific job. You’re the Hemingway to his Faulkner, and I can’t say as I disagree with either of you…Not to be a homer but I do think part of O’s analysis was just a wee bit flawed.
1. I think a blocked kick or missed FG/PAT is going to play a HUGE part in this one (adv. UF).
2. Sure, they have burners, but will Tebow have time? I don’t really think so…and not because of the blitz…I think we get pressure straight up the middle. This applies equally with any other slow developing plays or plays designed for the outside.
3. Relatedly, I think JPW can make the throws if he’s forced to. Two in particular stand out. Maze against UGA and the flea-flicker against Ole Miss. Just because he’s not asked to put this team on his back doesn’t mean that he can’t do it…He can. And, I think he will. This game is going to require a few big throws, and I believe he’s up to the task.
"penis fish"…google that, and the candiru is the first thing that pops up

Re: Futbol
That’s one of my all-time favorite quotes and I couldn’t pass up the chance to use it.

Yep...
especially considering the ’29 Rose Bowl. Football has always been an institutional force in the South. From reliving the Civil War, to integration, to defining who we are (largely) as a people: tough, dirty, rough around the edges, and suffering few slights.
Excellent stuff.
