Running with the Crimson Tide
For the past three years I have been working toward a singluar goal - qualifying for the Boston Marathon.
Typically the races that I've run in this effort have come at the end of the year so a lot of my training has been during college football season. Thus, my beloved Tide has been one of my constant training companions throughout the effort.
Their struggles, successes and ability to endure have been an inspiration for me over many a long brutal run I simply wanted to give up and forget about.
I've got nothing but pride in what this team has done and their ability to come as far as they have against the naysaying pundits, the problems of consistency and all the bastards that simply didn't like them and wanted them to fail.
So, in about three hours, I'm going to line up at the starting line in Oracle, Arizonanorth of Tuscon and try to run 26.2 miles in less than three hours and twenty minutes. And, like every race I've run this year, I'll be wearing my salt-stained Alabama hat with pride as I do.
So, thanks Alabama for a fantastic season and everything you've done to help me get this far.
ROLL TIDE!!!

Good luck
And just in support, i will spend the next 3 hours in my nasty robe in front of my TV, re-watching the SEC CG…..so we both will feel extreme pain….
When you are an Alabama fan you have to hate Auburn, I hate Tennessee because i want to.

Inspiring...
That is certainly true of our team, but one could say what you are doing is inspiring as well. It takes hard work and a no quit attitude. Sound familiar? Just do your best and we’ll be proud of you.

i'm sad to say...
…i wasn’t quite fast enough. missing the boston cutoff by about three minutes.
but, i must admit, there were a number of points where simply staying on the course and keeping in the race was a herculean effort. when you hear runners talk about “hitting the wall” its very real and more horrible than you can possibly imagine.
but thinking about how this team perservered this season – particularly yesterday – was just about all i had to keep my legs moving. and twice one of the spectators yelled “Roll Tide” at me and I found enough energy to give them a “Rammer Jammer” back.

Sorry to hear you...
…didn’t make the cut Kleph.
Marathons are a massive undertaking and finishing one period, much less just over three minutes of qualifying for the Boston Marathon is impressive. You’ll make the cut someday!

Keep at it.
I have a brother-in-law that performs in Iron Man’s and I know that it takes a beast of man to compete. Don’t let this get you down.
