Elder Arrested for Robbery

[editor's note, by Todd]
Bumped from the diaries. If the allegations prove true, I wonder if anyone will argue that this deserving young man shouldn't have his scholarship yanked.

UA freshman tackle Jeremy Elder arrested on charges of robbery.

TUSCALOOSA - University of Alabama football player Jeremy Elder was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree robbery, according to the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office Web site.

Elder, a freshman defensive tackle, was arrested on Sunday and had yet to be released from jail pending an $120,000 bond.

He was arrested by the University of Alabama police, but details of the arrest were not immediately available. A spokesman did not return a call seeking comment.

According to state law, first-degree robbery involves either a "deadly weapon or dangerous instrument" or someone causing "serious physical injury to another."

The a 6-foot-3, 271-pounder sat out the 2007 season redshirting.

A Crimson Tide football spokesman did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Wow
Armed robbery?  I do not want to talk bad about a player, especially when nothing has been proven, but wow!  I guess this would not be one of those good kids who are doing the right things.

dissappointing....
armed robbery is a serious offense.  We need D-lineman too.  I do not know what is going through some of these guys heads.

I do not know the details but if this really happeved SABAN needs to kick him off the team and let the rest of the team know that the University is not going to accept this sort of behavior.

tubs sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!

That kid better pray
these allegations are true.  I literally think Saban may use his laser eyes on the guy.  Honestly.  I would not want to be the kid that plays for Saban and gets arrested for robbery.  especially when you were redshirted and we need D-linemen.

I hate to make my opinion
before we know something for sure.  But I will say that I would rather be known for supporting a football program that encouraged class and character over winning games.  RTR
I wouldn't piss off the boys from Alabama . . .

Saban
He is a Saban recruit. He was a late bloomer in the process, and a few days before NSD he was down to Georgia and Arkansas. He took an official visit to Georgia, and was planning to go to Arkansas the following weekend. Well, we started going after him pretty hard, and he canceled the Fayetteville visit and came to Tuscaloosa instead. A couple of days after return from his visit, he committed to Alabama.

I thought this was in Georgia at first
and was really worried for him. I believe armed robbery is a capital offense in Georgia (messed up, I know).

Still, I don't see how this could be true. You would have to be pretty stupid (and desperate) to rob two people with a gun and not wear a mask or something. (how else did he get ID'd and arrested in less than 24 hours.)

Anyways, I really hope for his sake this isn't true, or he's going to have far grater problems than getting kicked off the football team.
