Look out in 2009 (but not for SUC)
i'd say 09 is the year that BAMA can be dangerous (depends on Star's development too). but the team is still young this year and has a tough road schedule. but lets not forget, Saban coached a less talented team (with a below avg qb) to a 7-5 record this year. and all 5 losses were by 7 pts or less. i'd say that's good coaching. and possibly a #1 recruiting class coming in.
but Nico, why would you put SUC at the top of the list (they're questionable at qb. who knows how good sanchez or mustain will be). and bammer, don't start comparing teams to SUC and what type caliber team they are. please don't fall for the media hype for SUC. they're OVERRATED! they're a slightly better version of ohio st with slightly better talent. they play in a weak conference every year (just like osu) and no conference championship. and don't gimme the argument that SUC plays a tough non-conference schedule.
let me show you their non-conference schedule from '03 till now:
'03 - auburn, byu, hawaii and notre dame...all unranked.
'04 - va tech, colorado state, byu and notre dame...all unranked except Va Tech.
'05 - hawaii, arkansas, fresno state and notre dame...all unranked except notre dame (who was overrated like they are every year and got pounded by ohio state in a bcs bowl).
'06 - arkansas (ranked but didn't have a healthy mcfadden at the time and their qb in that game was later converted to a wr), nebraska (unranked), and notre dame (ranked but overrated again and got pounded by LSU in a bcs bowl).
and finally '07 - idaho, nebraska and notre dame (all unranked) with a loss to stanford. yes they creamed illinois. so what? they beat a 3 loss big 10 team. wow, that's impressive.
their only impressive win is in '04 over oklahoma in the title game. and even that's questionable considering OU loses to everybody in a BCS bowl. and yes they beat auburn and arkansas on the road, but it's easy to get up for 1 tough SEC game (especially with all the talent they get out of SoCal). try 3 in a row.
but every year is the same story. SUC walks through a cupcake pac-10 (where road games are as hostile as a neutral site) and beats up on a mediocre big 10 team in the rose bowl (including michigan in '03 and '06). i'll respect them when they play against 3 ranked teams back-to-back-to-back (in a hostile environment like the SEC), in a conference championship and a team not from the big-10 in a bowl game all in the same year. DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE!!!

I take it you do...
I agree with some of your points, but they have been recruting top notch classes for a while. So Cal's talent is superior.
After a couple more classes like this years, and the TIDE should be on an even level with So Cal's talent.

The one thing i did agree with you on is the overrated mess that is OSU and the Big 10. To compare USC to OSU is laughable and honestly ignorant.
I am just SSSOOO sick and tired of the SEC rules argument. Yes we have a very tough league, there is no denying that. Lets just put it to bed and talk about things that are actually relevant to college football.
Thank You....

No, than you bammer!
It's OK to hate, but when disseminating a topic such as strength of conferences, schedule, and "overall" team abilities- it's retarded to just flat-out discount (the vast and insidious) "mainstream media" and their 2-cents on the whole matter. Not only that, when talking about "the only game" that mattered in their previous 6 years of playing was the Oklahoma beat down in the Orange Bowl being their "only significant" victory. Homegrown? Please.
But just to entertain that though- so 'SC beat OK? Dude, I'm not sure if you were paying attention- but EVERYBODY was so sure the Sooners would crush 'SC that day. They too were talking about the same tired points you brought up. Schedule. Conference. Talent. Coaching. SHAD-DUP already. Oklahoma got smoked. (people would NOW say that maybe the Sooners were overated that year?) You can't have it both ways. Prediction and hindsight are a beyotch. Trying to have both? Well you'd be arrested for being a crying-manbaby in some states. And just because OSU gets smoked 2 years in a row doesn't make the entire Big 10 a weak conference. They were definitely weak this past year, but in '06 they weren't all that bad. Florida was just THAT freaking good. And then this year? Same (Florida, that is) personnel (somewhat), same coaching (somewhat), same tough conference schedule (totally) and THEY LOSE TO A WEAK BIG 10 school who had (earlier in the year) gotten beaten by a Div. 1AA Appalachian State?
But go on. Have it both ways if you want.
You won't convince me of your argument though.
USC might not be the BEST program. That's gotta (IMHO) go to LSU this year. For all intents and purposes, you can't call USC over-rated the past 6 years. You can't call them the best by no stretch of the imagination. What you can do is give them their due and put them up there in the upper-echelon of the CFB landscape and keep retardation to a minimum.

meant for bammer
as far as the game against OU goes...the talent level was pretty equal in that game. OU just got severely outcoached. hence, what have they done since norm chow and ed orgeron left? so does that make SUC the best? or maybe it's boise state since they beat OU in a bcs bowl too. or maybe it's west virigina since they beat OU in a BCS bowl as well. i honestly don't understand how in '03, SUC gets a share of the title for beating a 2-loss michigan team in the rose bowl. SUC beat another big 10 team in the rose bowl. whoop dee do. and how does awbarn not get a share of the title in '04 when they go undefeated in the SEC. i'm not saying awbarn would have beat SUC, but i'm pretty sure they could have competed. just like the giants did against the patriots in the super bowl. not to mention, awbarn had 4 players drafted in the 1st round that year.
and your michigan argument...i don't know what it proves. florida basically had the same personnel? they lost 9 starters on defense! if you watched that game, florida's offense did their part (except for maybe tebow holding on to the ball too long at times). it was the defense that got worked. lloyd carr's last game factored with florida's D being young...is it really that surprising they lost? and it's not like they got blown out. they were in it till the end. did you not see the big 10's record in bowl games this year (3-5)? that michigan game proves nothing. i think if you can't see the Big 10 is weak, YOU'RE obviously blind.
and the 2 conferences that don't want some sort of playoff system...the big 10 and pac 10. gee, big surprise. other than the fact they get lots of $$$ for playing in the rose bowl together, they obviously don't want to compete with other conferences for a title.
we can agree to disagree but get your facts straight before you open your mouth

I could care less where you were born
Go on. Read my posting. You can do it.
Never talked about which conference is better. Never said "SUC" is the #1 team in the nation.
Did you read it?
Only said USC is not an over-rated program overall. They deserve some, not all the accolades the mainstream media, college coaches (I think they know a little more about football than you or I), and fans and non-fans have bestowed upon them.
You brought up all your tangential points yourself. You masturbated CFB facts solo. (hope it was fun???)
All I'm saying is chill.
I'm a 'Bama fan by way of my Uncle Junior graduating back in 1979. I was 1 year old and have been wearing 'Bama-gear since as long as I can remember. Was read Bear Bryant stories like they were Greek myths of a byegone era. I graduated from USC Keck School of Medicine recently and although I'm not an uber-rah-rah of all things Trojan, I'm still an alumnus with strong ties to the football program. (Chris Carlyle was my mentor, is my friend)
Don't hate. Is all. Again.

BTW
Saban makes not only 'Bama football shine once again, he makes the entire SEC LANDSCAPE all that much better.
I agree with you, 'Bama recruiting will put them heads and shoulders above the rest of SEC competition in years to come. Next year is still within our grasp. A BCS bowl? It's not entirely out of the question. With Saban, ANYTHING can happen. He's a winner (Miami notwithstanding, the pro game is not his forte'. And for sure not his forte' so long as it resides in Florida) I have so much high hopes for Alabama football. My future progeny depend on it! (that ain't happening- kids- anytime soon. I got BILLS these days)
If it wasn't for me attending "SUC", I'd take my 1/8-Choctaw blood back to the South and play me some Toli !! Eat me some Waffle House. Get my game and grub on in the beautiful Mounds of Alabama.

not the point buddy
and nobody's denying that SUC is ahead of BAMA right now. of course they are. and i'm not picking BAMA to win the title in '09. poised to have the #1 recruiting class this year, i'm saying they'll be a darkhorse team in '09 with most of the tougher games shifting back to BDS. and i think 3-5 years of solid recruiting is kinda inevitable seeing how CNS did in his first full year recruiting.
and who said JPW won't be the qb this year. i said '09 depends on how Star does. JPW won't be around in '09

Easy, easy
Dude, I only said that IT'S FOOLISH TO CLAIM THAT USC is, or has been, over-rated the past 6 years.
They've accomplished what they've accomplished on the field. They've lost some, yes. They've won some, yes.
You can question their OOC schedule or that they're playing in a weak conference all you want. Fact is, they are a solid program. Fact is, they beat a few SEC teams, Big 10 teams, and lost to a very good Big 12 team in Texas (but have won vs. OK and Neb).
They didn't belong in the BCS championship this year or the year before. The PAC 10 isn't the strongest conference, the SEC is HANDS DOWN! But even you have to admit, playing teams in conference isn't the easiest thing to do. I'm not excusing losing to fUCLA in 2006, and you won't hear me defending the loss to Stanford 2007- both losses eliminated them from BCS-title contention, no doubt about it. I'm saying don't discount a good team, with decent coaching just to try to make yourself sound intelligent. You don't. Not saying you're not, overall. I don't even know you. But "hating" isn't healthy. Peace be with you BamaFaninCA. Peace.

peace
and of course i come off as "unintelligent" in my post. it's natural since my post is fueled by hatred. not only do i have to hear every nat'l and local media outlet drool over them every year (like you said, they deserve SOME of it), but i have to endure their pompous, arrogant, obnoxious fans and alumni (like reggie dush, fatt leinart and meshawn johnson) out here every single year. walking around like they own the city. parading down to westwood all the time because there's nothing to do in south central (btw, it's funny to see SUC students pay all that money to go there, only to come and hang out in westwood). not to mention, half their fans are bandwagon fans. where the hell was will ferrell when they were losing?
anyways, i was hoping to share this hatred with "fellow" BAMA fans. but obviously, seeing that you're an SUC alum, that can't be done.
as for me, i don't enjoy watching SUC, notre lame or the OU spooners doing well...ever.
most nat'l titles since 1936 (inception of AP Poll):
8 - notre lame (although '66 and '77 should have gone to BAMA or at least should have been shared)
7 - Alabama, SUC, OU spooners
i for one want to see BAMA claim the most. but here's to CNS bringing in the #1 recruiting class on both rivals and scout. and nat'l titles in the future. i'm sure both of us can revel in that.
and btw, i didn't masturbate those nat'l title facts in case you were wondering. if i were to masturbate to anything, it would be girl fight '08.

SOS
You also want to speak about the strength of schedule. I would take the out-of-confrence schedule that USC is putting out over the one Alabama is putting out any day of the week. Is there anyone who would not love to see UA go and play a big time program from another confrence? USC and OSU will be playing against each other this year. It will probably be one of the most hyped games of the year. It would be awesome to see Alabama do the same. I will say that it looks like Alabama is starting to take the necessary steps to improve our out of confrence schedule now that Saban is there.
