Alabama vs Kentucky Open Thread

With all the excitement of National Signing Day, we forgot the Tide Basektball team was taking on Mississippi State Wednesday night. Probably a good thing, since they lost 66-73.

Typical...
After leading for 19 minutes and 55 seconds in the first half, we end up trailing going into the half.

Although
I am impressed with how well we're playing defense.  And it's a revelation that Yamine Coleman can actually score points at times.

Boy,
If we could actually shoot the basketball, we'd be dangerous

The only good thing about this...
...is that it means we're probably one step closer to having a new coach.

This is killing me....
I mean, holding Kentucky to 62 points at home...what more can you ask from a defensive effort?  It was obvious that they were playing hard, especially without Hendrix.

I just don't know what to think.........

Had a thought..
I wonder how Bob Knight would feel about coming to UA? in all seriousness it'd keep him from facing his son at Texas Tech, but it would bring a name and probably some enthusiasm to UA basketball. He might not stay 2-3 years, but i'd love to see him bring fire to a bench that looks a lot like M. Shula did on the sidelines.. but that's just my 2 cents.

Upon hearing about his retirement
earlier in the week, that was my exact thought :)

That might be pretty fun...
...and considering we all collectively wet ourselves over getting Saban instead of some up and comer it might be hypocritical of me to say this, but I'd almost rather bring in an up and coming coach that can generate some excitement in the fan base and in recruiting. As distasteful as it is to say we should do anything like UT, everyone who has mentioned how Bruce Pearl made basketball important in Knoxville are completely correct and that's exactly what Alabama basketball needs if it's ever going to come close to the level that Alabama football has.

please no
i love bobby knight...probably even more than most people do, but he is a fossil who's time has passed.  this bama team has twice the talent of texas tech b/c big time basketball players don't want to play for knight.  bobby knight would completely take the athleticism away from these guys...and i think we all agree this is not a jumpshooting kind of team.  this team is not far off, they just need someone to take them to the next level.

Dead on, dorsey
Knight would run off all the talent and bring in a bunch of mediocre guys who would be willing to take his coaching.  With that, we'd have a decent team that would never lose a game it wasn't supposed to, but wouldn't have the talent to win games it shouldn't, either.  We would have less talent on board with Knight than with Gottfried.  Also, if you think Bobby Knight would come to Alabama and play second fiddle to Nick Saban in the athletic department--please wake up, you're dreaming.

Tough break ...
on losing Hendrix.  There is no doubt in my mind he would have made a difference.

You turned us over 18 times and held Patterson to his lowest point production in many games.

Alabama is a much better team than their record indicates, and has had a tough first half of the season.

It's difficult to win without your best player.  We had to play without Patterson earlier, and got drubbed by Houston.  Playing a decent team on the road without your best player is truly a tough spot.

Good luck from here on out, and get Hendix healthy.  With him, anything can happen.

Our two best players...
...don't forget Ronald Steele is out for the season. I know he didn't play a second this season, but it still kills us knowing he's been sidelined for the year.
