I know
we are bunch of crazy bama fans but to put alabama ahead of Auburn and LSU is pretty funny. We sit below .500 and they are far from it. Just thought it was funny.

It was
more of a joke. This will probably be the last time we actually see Alabama anywhere near the top of the SEC West.

with vandy and ole miss
coming up for baseball, 0-9 in conference is not out of the question.

Updates...
We fell to 0-4 in conference play tonight after losing to Vanderbilt. If there was any good news, I guess, it was that at least we had a respectable showing tonight, losing to a top ten team in a 2-1 game.

Unfortunately, Auburn beat Kentucky and LSU squeaked by Arkansas in extra innings, meaning that we are now dead last in the conference, and the sole remaining winless team.

Things aren't going to get any easier from here on out. Though 0-9 is a legitimate possibility, I imagine we beat someone somewhere, but at this point if we go to Baton Rouge at better than 1-8, I'd be fairly surprised. And honestly, I'd be surprised if we came out of Baton Rouge better than 2-10. LSU baseball is a shell of what it once was in their glory days, and they aren't looking very good this year either, but we make them look like the '27 Yankees.

Harsh truth: We're in dead last in the SEC for a while now, and will probably remain there for several more weeks, if not the entire year. Making the SEC Tournament, much less the NCAA Tournament, would have to qualify as a big shock right now.

The real question, I think, is whether or not Jim Wells returns. His glory days are long since passed, and we could use some new blood. Don't get me wrong, we don't commit anywhere near the resources needed to win at baseball -- sorry, but that's a fact, particularly without having an in-state scholarship program to help us get around the NCAA scholarship limits -- and a new coach probably won't change that in any real, long-term manner. However, it's hard to see a year play out as bad as this one might and not have some sort of change; especially with a guy who just "retired" last year.

You know i don't
Follow college baseball that much. Is there a harsh NCAA guideline for recruiting in baseball? If so, what are they?

Yes...
You have scholarship limitations in baseball just like you do in other sports.

The big thing in baseball is that the limitation is so low that you really give out partial scholarships. You don't give out full rides like you do in football and basketball. For example, I may give you one-third of a scholarship, which would cover one-third of the cost of attendance.

That really hurts us because we, i.e. the state of Alabama, do not have an in-state scholarship program that will cover the cost of tuition. A lot of other SEC schools -- Georgia and LSU for example -- benefit from that, and it effectively gives them more scholarships. There players can get free tuition anyway, and all of that means you can just bring in more players or offer other players more money -- in the form of an increased amount on their scholarship -- and that gives them a huge recruiting advantage. In a real world effect, it's basically gives teams with in-state scholarship programs more scholarships than those that don't.
