Victor Ellis Passes Away

In some very sad news, former Alabama linebacker Victor Ellis has passed away. He was 28.

I'm sure you all remember Victor as a 'Bama linebacker in the late 1990's and early 2000's. After graduating from Alabama in 2002, he was working for the university until several months ago when he was surprisingly diagnosed with a very rare and deadly form of cancer, and was told by doctors that he had a mere few months to live. Victor fought hard to the end, but ultimately succumbed to cancer tonight. Arrangements are apparently being made in Chattanooga, Ellis' hometown.

If you have a few bucks to spare, I urge you to donate them to the Victor Ellis Fund for Cancer Research.

This is terrible
I remember being shocked when I heard that he was sick.  At that time, I'd recently exchanged a couple e-mails with him on Myspace, just catching up, and then I saw it on Al.com as one of the sports stories.  Couldn't believe it.  I've watched several loved ones die from cancer, but they were older.  Victor was young and healthy.  I am really sad by this.  It's so random.  Our lives really aren't in our hands.

Thoughts and prayers to his family.
Oh, and f**k cancer.
The most beautiful phrase in the English language: "Touchdown, Alabama!"

Tribute
I just received this email and watched the tribute and shed a lot of tears.  Everyone who knew him spoke of him so highly, I wish I had been able to meet him.  From what I understand, there is going to be a Victor Ellis Scholarship Fund set up to help students from needy families with the money left over in the fund.  I also read that Victor took $1000 from the fund and sent it to a Siran Stacy fund after his tragedy.  What a terrible loss this is for everyone.

"Hello,

This is Blair Brown. At the request of Victor, I set up the fund at Bryant Bank that you donated thru when you made a donation to the Victor Ellis Fund. Thank you for your support of Victor.

Here is a link to a video/music tribute that I made for Victor http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKGol-QSE04

It has a lot of pictures in it from the "Tailgaiting with the Legends" event  on November 17th. If you'll notice, Victor is smiling in almost all the pictures. He was very courageous all the way up until the end.

So, cry a little, laugh a little and remember our buddy for the great man he was. Feel free to forward this to anyone. There are a lot of grieveing folks now and this may help in some small way.

God Bless,
Blair"
