Your RBR Word of the Day: Lambaste

lambaste \lam-BAYST\, transitive verb:
1. To give a thrashing to; to beat severely.
2. To scold sharply; to attack verbally; to berate.

Why is it Alabama fans are constantly lambasted for our perceived inability to remember "the Bear is dead" but no one ever thinks to do the same for Michigan or Ohio State fans?

My question..
is will the media mock Nebraska fans for paying upwards of $100 for a seat at their spring game when 80K showed up, when Alabama fans obviously showed up en masse to a free event.

Maybe
It's because Schembechler just passed away, and nobody cares about the University of Florida, Columbus anyways...

I've known and know
a few Ohio State fans and their feelings toward Woody don't come close to the love and respect we have for Bear.  A lot of that has to do with the ugly way he left the game, I'm sure.  It's probably different in Michigan with Bo's legacy, but thank goodness I don't have any friends that are Michigan fans!

Yeah...
...I'd agree with bamavicki regarding tOSU.

Schembechler
The interesting thing was that even though he dominated the Big 10, winning 13/20 Big 10 titles, Schembechler never won a National Championship.

Maybe it's because . . .
they think we might actually be foolish enough to cast aside our heroes?

They are wrong, though.  And thank God.  You don't erect statues and pay homage before the start of every game because you intend to forget.

There is no fault in being proud of our heroes and their accomplishments; and celebrating them. But we must always beware of that pride turning to conceit.  Such excesses almost seem incomprehensible given our recent lack of success.

tapout
For those who have not read it yet, tapout has a  phenomenal post in the diaries section under "Stupid People" about not forgetting.

It is might be because
tOSU and Michigan are each others rivals, and both have legendary coaches, therefor they really can't rag each other about it. The only people I hear crap from about Bryant are fans of schools who don't really have a legendary coach to call their own.
Cause bama's pluck and gritt has writ her name in crimson flame.

Bo...
...was around until this past year, and a big part not just of the football program but the university as a whole.  He was auditing history and political science classes right before he kicked.  He was, as I understand the Bear was, a good and gracious man who was respected by his peers and revered by his players.  I think our respective schools were fortunate to have those gentlemen as coaches and I further hope that Michigan remembers Bo as fondly as 'Bama fans remember the Bear even after as many years have passed.

Best wishes to the Tide in the upcoming season.
