Alabama and the draft...

So, uh, no Alabama players taken in this year's NFL draft.  I was a little surprised, as I thought we'd see DJ Hall and Simeon Castille go somewhere from the 4th to 7th round.  Gilberry just doesn't have the speed or height of a DE nor the size of a DT in the NFL.  I think he'll make a roster and maybe do well, but the numbers just aren't there to justify a draft pick on him.  DJ has character issues, I guess, and his 40 time was a little slow.  Simeon ran a slower 40 and projects as a safety, but doesn't seem to have enough size.  Still, for how productive both he and Hall were in college, it's puzzling why they weren't drafted.  Anyway, this is disappointing for the program, but I doubt we'll see this trend recur much in the future.

First time since 1970...
...that no Tide players were drafted.

Something tells me that'll change in the coming years...

The most beautiful phrase in the English language: "Touchdown, Alabama!"

just shows you how low on talent the ...
TIDE has been lately.  Gilberry, Castille and DJ were all our "playmakers" and they did not even get drafted.  The TIDE has a long way to go to get the talent level where it needs to be to win Championships.
tubbs sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!

To me...
...this is very indicative that we still have a long way to go and explains a lot about our recent mediocre seasons. It's not a 100% tell-tale sign, but it's a pretty strong indicator that if you aren't producing pro-level talent that you're not having great success on the field...and we haven't been.

to me...
nico;

You're right on the mark with this but fear not Tide faithful; a perfect example of this was the late 90's and USC not having the talent level to warrant any notice in the draft. But for the work of a top notch coach and top recruiting classes and the condoms have resurfaced as the "cream" ahem of the crop. I have no doubts what so ever that in a couple of years the draft board will be filled with the next crop of Crimson legends!!!

Have a great Tider day, Dallas
