When did you reach Fanhood?

I just posted my moment in the fanshots page. 1989 Alabama and Penn St. when we blocked their kick to win the game and stay undefeated. Really classic commentary too, but when is Eli's apparent drunkenness not an amazing call.

Since we have all this new stuff to play with I thought I'd like to hear when everyone else decided it was gonna be the Tide. And none of this "my whole family" business either. We all know people can get sucked over to the Dark Side pretty easily.

FanPosts are just that; posts created by the fans. They are in no way indicative of the opinions of SBN and the authors of Roll Bama Roll.

Yeah that whole "family thing"

I have been a fan since the 82’ Liberty Bowl. That was the first big impression that I got of Bama football. I was a kid then and you know football wasn’t really consuming my life. By the time I was in middle school, that was the greatest time for me as a Bama fan. I got to go on a field trip to The Bryant museum one year, and I also met Coach Stalling and Jay Barker with a tour of the locker rooms, weight room, and stadium. This was the season before the NC against Miami. I would have to say that I have been a fan since 82’, buut I did not become a diehard until I went to The Bryant Museum in 91’. The only down part for me is, after meeting Coach and seeing the stadium…I have STILL never sat in the stands and watched a game.

the road to fanhood

I did grow up with most of the family being fans, but I was never close to the family because my father was in the Army. The first bama thing that I truely remember was the 92 championship. The next thing that I remember was going to the Bama v. Arkansas game when Arkansas had just joined the SEC (my dad was stationed at Little Rock). After Bama won I was able to meet Coach Stallings as the team left the locker room. I continued to be a “fan” throughout my highschool years in Texas and Kentucky. I had a dream of playing for the Tide and even talked to the recruiters and walked the field at Bryant Denny. I ended up in Birmingham for college but became the fan that I am today while in the state. I look forward to bringing up my new son as a Bama fan and carrying on that whole “family thing”.

I guess I am old

It’s a family thing with me too. What sealed the deal for me was the USC game in ‘77 in LA. Wayne Hamilton batted down the two point conversion pass at the end, sealing the victory. Bama had about as much a chance of beating USC on their home turf that year as we did Miami in ‘92. I could not sleep that night I was so overwhelmed. We should have won the NC that year, and it would have been the start of the second set of three consective NC’s for us if it weren’t for Notre Dame’s politicking that year, and in ‘66.

When did you reach Fanhood

1977. Grew up in Philadelphia, PA and had a family of Notre Dame and Penn State fans. That season the Tide got jobed by the northern media. Bama lost to 9-3 Nebraska in Lincoln and ND lost to 6-5 Ole Miss in Oxford. ND was 4 going into the bowl game with then 1 Texas (Earl Campbell), while Bama dismantled 9-3 Ohio State in the Sugar, We got screwed by the northern east coast media and stinking ND was named #1. Wrong. We were the first and only to 3 peat. Since then forever a TIde fan. Roll Tide!
