Alabama v. Georgia to be Televised by ESPN
The Athens Banner-Herald got confirmation from ESPN that the worldwide leader will be using one of their priority picks (they have a few opportunities to leapfrog CBS in the game picking order) to televise the September 27th contest between the Crimson Tide and the Dawgs. No kickoff time has been announced, but c'mon, they're not going to use a priority pick for a day game.
A ticket I was already going to have a heckuva time securing just got tougher as everybody loves games under the lights.

Raycom games in HD
It also mentions that all of Raycom’s games are in HD this fall at that link. Is Raycom the same as Lincoln Financial (formerly Jefferson Pilot)? If not, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a game broadcast by them. If so, great news.

Good, but...
That is a good thing regarding the Raycom HD, but I wouldn’t get too excited just yet.
Many of the local channels that carry the Raycom broadcasts are smaller enterprises with smaller budgets, and many of them do not broadcast HD signals. Obviously, it does you absolutely no good for the game to filmed in HD when your local station carrying the game does not broadcast HD signals.
It’s better news than it would otherwise be, but a lot of people out there are still going to be getting the games looking like a 1971 broadcast.

UGA game time...
As for the UGA game time, it really doesn’t have much of an impact on the game itself, of course.
It should mean, however, that we will end up with two games in a row on ESPN. The previous week we will play Arkansas in Fayetteville, and that one should be on either ESPN or ESPN2. That same week you have LSU v. Auburn and Florida v. Tennessee, so those games will get either the CBS / ESPN slots, or perhaps CBS will do a doubleheader.
The Georgia game surely came down to that game or Auburn v. Tennessee. Apparently we won out. Aside from that, it’s a pretty boring week around the SEC.

And a game under the lights means...
... more time to enjoy Athens. Tuscaloosa’s a great college town. Athens is another. In fact, I’d probably put them at the top of the SEC (I’m biased in favor of Georgia’s Classic City, of course, and I’d have to add that Oxford is beautiful, if only from a purely aesthetic standpoint).
