Clemson Buzz....

So I'm curious as to what the talk about the Clemson-Bama game is in Alabama. I live in Clemson (born and bred in the Heart of Dixie though) and there really isn't that much buzz going on. On most of the radios everybody is pretty confident about beating us. Even though Clemson will be good their big question is their o-line. Most of all my college football coverage is of the Clemson program and through this website is really my only link to the Bama program...

FanPosts are just that; posts created by the fans. They are in no way indicative of the opinions of SBN and the authors of Roll Bama Roll.

This is a game that may give us a chance.

I know alot of people are writing us off. However, Clemson ALWAYS blows an early game, CTB seems to be overconfident at times. I think we make some noise in that first game, whether we win or not.

I am just happy to get back on the field after the AAFL screwed me out of spring football and watch this season. We won’t win a championship of any kind, but I think we make some noise as we will be young and talented.

I go hunting...

I go hunting in South Carolina every November with some friends. Our guides are Clemson fans, obnoxious ones at that. Worse than Auburn fans. I don’t need a week of ridicule. We better beat them.

Clemson...

Clemson always expects to win big every year. And then football season rolls around and it’s a completely different story.

I don’t know that we’ll beat Clemson, but we have a good chance. Even if they are the best team in the ACC - and they usually find a way to blow that honor every year - that doesn’t mean very much. The ACC, as long as Miami and FSU continue to struggle, is a very mediocre conference, and generally their best team would probably be no better than third or fourth best in the SEC. That entire conference hasn’t even won a BCS game this decade, it’s absurd.

I think we have a good chance. If the Clemson people think this game is a lock, they are delusional. If a 9-4 Auburn team could beat them last year, after having all of three weeks to install a completely different offense, then this Alabama team can too.

And so speaketh OTS, the prophet

of RBR. Seriously, you are money a lot of the time, so it is a boost of confidence to know that you feel fairly confident about this game. I think it will be fun to watch.

I don't think Clemson

would get half of the respect they garner if they played in the SEC. At best I think they could finish 3rd or 4th in the West, and much worse in the East. The ACC has become so dull lately that Wake Forest actually won the Conference the year before last.

I for one, feel that this will be a good game, but we can win it. I think the odds should be in our favor as well. Although none of us should ever count a game as a lock again-after the ULM travesty-I think we handled a running attack from Arkansas last year pretty well. I mean if what should have been the overall pick in the draft and the Heisman winner and another first round back put up 300 yards on us and we still find ways to win, then I think James Davis and C.J. Spiller won’t be any more of a problem than theMcfadden and Jones.

Handled Arkansas' running game last year?

Pretty well? Yeah, we practically shut them down. They only managed to eke out 300 yards rushing. Reminds me of the 1995 NBA playoffs when David Robinson was ritually emasculated by Akeem Olajuwon. The Admiral made the mistake of winning MVP and mentioned all the great centers without naming Akeem. After the sixth consecutive game of humiliation a reporter asked Kenny Smith about Robinson’s performance and Smith said, “He did great. he held him to 39 points and 17 rebounds.”

True, but...

I think his point was that though McFadden and Jones were really special players, we nevertheless pulled out the victory.

And honestly, the truth of the matter is that Spiller and Davis aren’t nearly the same as McFadden and Jones, there’s a big drop-off there. Spiller is a lethal threat with his speed, but he’s also very much a boom or bust runner, and he really doesn’t see the ball that much (he averaged only about 11 carries per game last year). Davis is probably the more dangerous of the two because he grinds out consistent chunks of yardage so well, but even so, it’s hard to make any valid argument that these two guys are better than what we saw from the Hogs last year.

Also making matters easier is that you often have to only face either Davis or Spiller. The major problem with McFadden and Jones last year was that they were always on the field at the same time, and you constantly had to simultaneously defend both. With Davis and Spiller it’s different… you see them on the field at the same time occasionally, but generally one watches while the other plays.

The problem, of course, is going to be that the Clemson passing game with Cullen Harper is no Casey Dick. Moreover, Arkansas didn’t have a receiving threat last year like Clemson has with Aaron Kelly. Long story short, the running game isn’t as good, but on the other hand the passing game is better.

My hope is that, considering how stout our defensive line looked in the Spring, we will be able to control the line of scrimmage with CU having to replace so many linemen from a year ago. If we can do that, we’ll win.

Well I'm happy

that you found a way to misconstrue my point and turn it into some anecdote about NBA playoffs from 13 years ago. Wow, man you are on top of it. That was about as relevant as the lyrics on the B-side to Warren Zevon’s cult hit Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner. The B-side, Werewolves of London, has lines of impertinent macabre, “I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand, Walking through the streets of Soho in the rain.” I especially love how you quote a true genius like patton oswalt everytime you post.

OTS elaborated on what I was saying, “McFadden and Jones were really special players, we nevertheless pulled out the victory.”

If you’ll read through the entire post again I think it’s pretty obvious to see that I was giving them all the credit in the world. We’re both Bama fans so I’m not going to take this any further, but I must say I thoroughly enjoyed you trying to call me out on something you didn’t even understand.

Wrong is wrong

Well, glad your sense of humor pulled you through. Bottom line … when you say, “I think we handled a running attack from Arkansas last year pretty well” that is wrong. If you wrote that, but meant something else, how’s that my fault? If you said, “If we give up 300 yards to Spiller and Davis, like we did last year to Arkansas, but pull out the win, I’ll take it” then I wouldn’t have said anything. In fact, I would’ve agreed. OTS is being nice, but for the love of Bear, don’t throw stones and then hide behind him. Seriously, that’s weak. You misspoke/miswrote and I called you out on it. Don’t take it personally. Just write more clearly next time.

damn series of pipes and tubes!!!!

i wrote a big ol peice on why i think we’re gonna win and the internets ate it up. (that or i mistakenly hit “preview’ and then navigated away from the page i was on…) anyway here is the abridged version of

why i thnk bama is going to beat clemson; a homers perspective

first of all, clemson has 1 returning starter on O-line (they have two guys on the PSL with one career start each, the peach bowl v auby. the other two got bupkis) I think/hope/cling to the belief that bama’s D-line, despite the loss of wallace G, will be improved from last year. and that the D-line will be able to get to harper before he gets his feet set for anything downfield. I’m also thinking/dogmaticly fixated on the hope that Rolando Mcclain will hold down the title of “playmaker” for the LB’s and that Johns, harris (even i recognize the unlikely hood of knight being there) and the other guy(s) simply hold to their respective assignments. and that they dont get beat on counters, traps, play action, or other kinds of offensive tomfoolery. I think the secondary is going to be a force to be reckoned with and that hurried pass atempts, caused by an effective rush, lead to INT’s for jackson, lawrence, and the gang.

I’m also firmly convinced that Javier Arenas kicks total ass, and that he’ll likely set us up with great field position at least twice (maybe once, but then add a kick returned all the way for a TD)

those factors mentioned above should help JP Wilson settle back into the role of getting us downfield without turning the ball over. given the nicktator’s willingness to play true frosh’s, I’m thinking we could see mark ingram get some handoffs, BJ Scott and JJ should have some opportunities to make plays, and oh yeah, grant, coffee, upchurch, stover, and mccoy should be able to be counted on for production as well. if McElwain can call an efficient game, and JP is able to execute those calls, then we could be up by 2 td’s or more at halftime. and at the end of the day, we will have soundly beaten a top 10 ten team and will be on our way to an 11 win regular season, and I will also have dropped about 15 pounds by august 30, and 25 by november 29, cause the copious amounts of beer i’m about to drink has negative carbs.

I gotta find...

...tickets to this game.

I probably will post something similar every time this game is brought up.

Beat Clemson

All I know is I work in between an office in Greenville SC and Charlotte NC an Engineering firm. Most of the guys and gals here graduated from Clemson the company has alot ofties with their engineering department. I can tell you right now they dont even consider us a treat to beat them. I would say somewhere in the lines of them playing NC State or North Carolina they have already counted it as a win. They are very arrogant cocky b($*ds too,

I am a member of the Sabanation Roll!!Tide!!

I love games like Clemson

We are supposed to lose, and if we do lose it doesn’t hurt our season. The game is not close to being a must win for us…but Clemson thinks the game is in the bag and it is a must win for them if they think they have a shot at a NC (which they do.) With this dynamic, Clemson’s new O-line and senior QB JPW I really like our chances. Our only problem is that we only have one good LB- McClain and we will need someone to step up big time at LB.

Besides all that, Bowden is not such a good coach. No one has gone so far on their last name as Bowden…his free ride will end soon.
