Best reason of all to vote for Obama!
Put the letter "G" in front of John McCain's first name, and what do you get? "GJohn." This makes no sense!
But put it in front of Obama's first name and what happens? "GOBAMA!"
Should GOBAMA be elected on in early November, those paranoid AllBarn folks will see this as one more trick, part of a divine plan just a couple of weeks before we begin our new winning streak! And it probably is, as some level! ROLL TIDE!
FanPosts are just that; posts created by the fans. They are in no way indicative of the opinions of SBN and the authors of Roll Bama Roll.

There is also
the thing the really hardcore fans say about Alabama being more successful when Democrats were in office (or had been recently elected, such as in Clinton’s case).

I think you meant to say last name.
But, any reason to vote for Obama is a good enough reason for me.
Cause bama's pluck and gritt has writ her name in crimson flame.

Yep
Voting for Obama is a given. This makes it even more so.

Either way you are essentially voting for a democrat.
McCain is pretty lib. Just sayin’.
I don’t really care, because I think change will be a good thing, even though I am historically republican.

Wouldn't Go That Far
His “maverick” shtick only goes so far. There are pretty vast differences between the two candidates. Personally, I have historically voted democrat since I turned 18 back in ‘96.
To avoid another post, if you don’t wanna hear politics don’t enter the thread.
by CaptStu on Jun 30, 2008 11:08 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I'll give you that.
I agree that there is a HUGE difference in the candidates. Especially in the areas of Iraq and, well, foreign policy in general. My point was that McCain is more liberal than your average republican. Now, whether he is exaggerating some of his stances to distance himself from Bush is certainly debatable. Bush hasn’t exactly given us on the far right a good rep these past four years.
Either way, it will be exciting to see what happens in the election. And “GOBAMA” indeed.

Absolutely...
It will be an entertaining rest of the year. That’s for sure.
Hey, next week? Lunch?

Definitely.
This week is rough – I was going to get in touch but we have year end (yeah, in July) and of course a lot of people gone for vacation. Next week sounds great. Email me.

I think I come here...
to read and talk about sports, not politics. We get enough of that crap elsewhere. Can we stick with the Crimson Tide and not talk about the Slick Willies?

I come in here to chat
with friends about things that interest us. I mean, you can ignore any political discussion, of course I don’t think that was anyone’s goal. BWD was posting a joke, and I made an offhanded comment about it; that was the end of it.
Besides, if I did, it is a presidential election year, so I don’t think that would be too much of an “out there” topic. And I don’t see anything wrong with it unless a). it took over a majority of the conversation, or b). the Admins – Todd, Nico, or OTS – asked us not too.
Finally, its not like there is a lot to talk about Crimson Tide-wise anyway…chill.

Enough
I have had enough of these sarcastic “vote for obama” posts. Everyone knows that no self-respecting Alabama fan would ever vote for obama.
by JTMagnum on Jun 30, 2008 12:02 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Why not?
Explain. I probably won’t vote for him due to disagreements with some of his stated policies, but I am curious why you want to generalize the fan base?

The way I see it
if you were a fan of any educational institution you would be more likely to Vote Dem, because the GOP cuts taxes for the rich and those tax cuts severely hurt education. Thats why tuition rose 12% at both UA and AU, because of all the state cuts in the EDU budget this year.
This thread is cool with me(obviously, I’m posting in it), I enjoy discussing football and politics, but I hope this thread stays civil, because there is nothing worse than discussions that devolve into internet arguments
Cause bama's pluck and gritt has writ her name in crimson flame.
by pluckandgritt on Jun 30, 2008 12:16 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Believe me...
...we’re watching this one very closely. The second this thread begins to devolve it is gone.
by Nico2.0 on Jun 30, 2008 12:20 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Cut taxes for the rich?
I don’t mind a little political conversation, but must we use the same standard party line arguments? I think it is a little simplistic to say that since we did not get enough taxes from the rich, tuition increased.
by Kenny483 on Jun 30, 2008 12:23 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
This was never
a political thread. It was a humorous comment about Barack Obama’s name and our school’s nickname. Totally relevant. If people had come on and started posting paragraphs about why Obama is a better candidate than McCain, I would think it would be inappropriate for an Alabama football blog. But no one did.
Funny story, I was wearing a Bama shirt in LA and an old woman walked up to me and said, “Bama (pronounced like Barack’s first name), you mean Obama.” I kind of looked at her and said, “No. It’s the school.” She had no clue. Some people on the West Coast don’t know anything exists east of Vegas and West of New York.
Oh, and yes, I think we do need a Democrat in office for obvious reasons.
1925: Coolidge (Rep.)
1926 Coolidge (Rep.)
1930: Hoover (Rep.)
1934: Roosevelt (Dem.)
1941: Roosevelt (Dem.) (hey, if you’re one of those AU/UT/LSU/et cetera people who talks shit, mind your own damn business, bitch. We could have had one in 1966 and 1977, too, so F*ck off and throw some toilet paper around in your trailer-park-trash-one-stoplight town, bitch)
1961: Kennedy (Dem.)
1964: LBJ (Dem.)
1965: LBJ (Dem.)
1973: Tricky Dick (Rep.)
1978: Carter (Dem.)
1979: Carter (Dem.)
1992: Bush (Rep.), but Clinton (Dem.) had been elected
Maybe it’s not that significant, but historically, Alabama football has benefited from political change.
Is there any real connection? No, but it’s fun to look at. An Obama victory is a sign of Bama’s renaissance. I mean, when Bush visited DuBose in the summer of 2000, that was a sign of our upcoming decline.
Think about it.

If I weren't already a Democrat...
...this would be reason enough for me to switch. This and the Bear having been a (quiet) supporter of Bobby Kennedy. (See The Last Coach: A Life of Paul “Bear” Bryant, Allen Barra, Norton 2005.)

Condi Loves Bama
If this thread is really about Bama football, then respect should be given to the party and political candidates that give respect to Bama Football. For those that weren’t paying attention Condoleeza Rice(Republican) loves Bama football, even attending a game recently with Jack Straw( taking politics and Bama fandom to a new level and overseas)

There is no evidence he grew up a Muslim. There are plenty of other reasons for not voting for him. I just do not believe this Manchurian candidate BS. Like I said there are enough real reasons not to vote for Obama without going into the realm of conspiracy theories.

If I was in any way an owner, moderator or whatever to this site, I’d ban you for stupidity. That is an absurd statement that can only be believed by absurd people. I'd say...
I’d say Bryant was the college football version of George Patton, lol.
Just a few off of the top of my head…
Bill Curry would have to be Bill Clinton. Both were divas, blowhards, and both full of it in my book.
Red Drew would have to be Bush 41. Drew, just like Bush, was the mere continuation of another highly popular regime (Thomas / Reagan), but in general, aside from a few high points, it was a general decline that saw both of them forced out a few years later.
Mike Shula would have to be either Lyndon Johnson or Gerald Ford. No one voted for any of them, but they were pretty well liked until the shit hit the fan with Shula / Johnson. Shula is a lot like Ford in the sense he was a star football player at a major college football program.
Sylvester Croom would be Al Gore… so close, yet so far…
Ears Whitworth would be Hoover… yes there were major problems lurking when he took over and a lot of the ultimate problems were the fault of many others as much as they were his, but nevertheless it was an utter catastrophe on both ends.
Stallings would be Truman… a tough, no-nonsense guy who reminded people so fondly of a great predecessor (FDR / Bryant), but the adoration for both causes many to overlook some problems that were lurking underneath.
Xen Scott would be George Washington… he was the guy who really started it all.
by outsidethesidelines on Jun 30, 2008 9:33 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Nick Saban
would be Joseph Stalin, lol.

Please tell me you guys are kidding around!
The whole voting for obama thing, please tell me my Bama brothers and sisters are much smarter than to do our country in by voting for such a liberal worse than Carter ever was….I like my freedom of choice….I like to live where I want and go where I want when I want….and I do not want this man in the White House…he scares the bahooky out of me even running!! I don’t like everything about McCain, but he KNOWS the threat of terrorism and has a lifetime of experience. My goodness this man was a prisoner of war for years, shouldn’t he know terror! Obama has NO, NONE, ZERO experience….I am a gun owner, church going, redneck he accused me of being, although I am not a real redneck per say, BUT if I had to chose sides I would certainly be a redneck over an Obama supporter….and he is a rich spoiled liberal who has never served this country in war who has an agenda that you guys should search out if what has already been revealed about him isn’t enough….
Anyway…there will be NO #7….it’s over for the War Chicken!

Do me a favor. Turn off Fox News and switch the dial away from Limbaugh. You’re living under the policy of fear, not freedom of thought or progressive optimism and action.

Why don’t you do us a favor and turn CNN off and stop whining about how bad everything is in America. Everyone says that they want change. What exactly do you want changed?? Don’t get me wrong I know there are serious problems in America, but obama is not the answer. No one know what this man is capable of, and he could possilby be the antichrist (just kidding).
