I checked the MLB website and it looks like Destin Hood went almost exactly where he was predicted. He went 55th to the Washington Nationals. It looks like he is pretty much good as gone. I am sure the Nats will have to pay a little more than the slot money that MLB suggests, but it would be extremely unusual if a player drafted that high did not sign with the team. He should be looking at a minimum of a six figure signing bonus. I am sure whoever his agent is will be very prudent, and leverage his football scholarship and try and get above slot money for Destin. It sucks that he will probably never play football for Alabama, but you have to wish him the best.
As far as I could tell I did not see any information on Melvin Ray being drafted in the first 6 rounds; which, of course is great news. It would seem unlikely he will go play pro ball if he did not get drafted very high.
If anyone sees anything else let us know. I knew that the Alabama baseball team was supposed to have some players drafted, but I could not find any of them. If anyone knows of anyone getting drafted I am sure everyone would like to know.
All-in-all not really unexpected news, and it is pretty evident that Saban had a plan in place for this eventuality.
