McCarron, at 6-4, 180 pounds, reminds us a lot of former Elite 11 and Alabama QB Brodie Croyle. Like Croyle, McCarron has that shaggy brown hair and same live arm. He has one of the quickest releases in the camp, is very light on his feet and got a lot better as the day went on.
"I thought he improved more from the start of the workout to the end than anyone else I saw," James said. "He has a lot of physical tools but mentally, you could tell he was starting to understand things more. When the game slows down for him, he's really going to make a big jump."

McCarron is really turning heads
I’ve heard him compared to Matt Ryan, Ken Dorsey, and now Brodie Croyle.

I want a QB that gets compared to...
...Vince Young, Matt Leinart or Tom Brady.

Should be interesting...
How fall camp goes down next year when it’s most likely between Star and AJ for the starting QB spot, unless McElroy or Fanuzzi improve enough by the end of next spring that they’re the starter.
My money is on Star, but we’ll feel a lot better about our depth and competition when we have AJ pushing Star.

Only because there's a slight, slight,
chance that it’ll happen. Notice that I did put Star and AJ first, before McElroy and Fanuzzi came up in my post. I certainly think that Star and AJ have a much better chance at starting next year than McElroy and Fanuzzi.

At the end of the day...
...Jackson will be a redshirt freshman and McCarron will be a true freshman next year, while McElroy will have been in this system for two years (and in college for three). Don’t write the upperclassman off yet.

"McCarron has that shaggy brown hair and same live arm"
What Alabama quarterback, ever, hasn’t had shaggy brown hair? Wilson, Croyle, Watts, Stabler, Namath, etc. Bama Bangs are a prerequisite for admission.
I guess there was balding Freddie Kitchens and Andrew Zow, but they both shared the job with shaggy-haired guys, right? There has to be one on the roster at all times.

Namath and Stabler...
....were generally close cropped men (they might not have followed all the rules, but that one they did) at Alabama, but once Bryant started letting the players grow their hair out, it was pretty much true.
