Alabama's freshmen jersey numbers (and other material) ...

Hello from SEC Media Days, where I just arrived and received a copy of Alabama's media guide for the 2008 season.

No big surprises on the preliminary fall roster -- there was no Terance Farmer, for instance -- but a few walk-ons from the spring roster were missing. Among them were QB Patrick Bryant (the former pro baseball pitcher), TE Patrick Frayer from Daphne, big defensive lineman Juan Garnier and Gadsden reciever Andre Mitchell.

- Listed as redshirt freshmen: DL Josh Chapman, QB Nick Fanuzzi, DL Nick Gentry, meaning appeals were likely successful on their behalf. WR Darius Hanks, on the other hand, was listed as a sophomore.

Nearly all of the incoming freshmen were assigned numbers, including former Hoover defensive lineman Kerry Murphy, whose academic eligibility is still in question for the fall (Not that it means a whole lot, as Destin Hood was assigned the No. 81). Not assigned numbers were Devonta Bolton and Brandon Lewis (both confirmed JUCO guys), Melvin Ray (who's headed to baseball) and oddly enough, Tuscaloosa local Brad Smelley.
