RBR Friday Random 10: Nico's Mutiny Edition
Just as our forefathers broke away from a tyrannical England, I'm breaking away from an oppressive, tyrannical Todd (ed.- I AM A BENEVOLENT DICTATOR THAT IS LOVED BY ALL!) and launching my own Random 10...which is patriotically free of taxation without representation (boo Todd...he's the taxman!)
1. Sigur Rós - "Starálfur"
2. North Mississippi Allstars - "Blow Out"
3. Faith No More - "Woodpecker From Mars"
4. Pedro the Lion - "Diamond Ring"
5. Blind Melon - "St. Andrew's Fall"
6. Otha Turner - "How Many 'Mo Years?"
7. Ladytron - "Ladybird"
8. Sufjan Stevens - "The Man Of Metropolis Steals Our Hearts"
9. Bassnectar - "Everybody"
10. The Dirtbombs - "The Thing"
Naturally, the way to begin my 4th of July Random 10 is with an Icelandic band that sings in a combination of Icelandic and a made up language called Vonlenska that isn't really a language, but a "a form of gibberish vocals that fits to the music." Oh well, I can't really be blamed though for my 4th of July Random 10 starting with a non-American band since it is a random 10. My Random 10 is 80% American today though and that's pretty awesome (Ladytron and Sigur Rós being the exceptions.)
That being said, I'm going to rock some Ladytron today since I saw their awesomeness in concert a few weeks ago. I should mention that one of their singers, Mira Aroyo, is totally my girlfriend. Not only does she bring the electronic goodness, she also has a PhD in molecular genetics. She's smarter than you, rocks harder than you and is better looking than you! First clip (which is about the vibe) is from a live performances, second clip is a video (so you can hear the music better. I'm sad to report Mira is barely in this video.)
| All silliness aside, here's a rendition of the Star Spangled Banner I found on YouTube that I'd never heard, but that I thought was quite moving.
Have a happy and safe 4th of July! |

Random 10
1. Our Lady Peace – Middle of Yesterday
2. Radiohead – Paperbag Writer
3. The Von Bondies – Broken Man
4. Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band – The River
5. Pete Yorn – Policies
6. T.S.O.L. – You Don’t Have to Die
7. Cat Power – Speak for Me
8. Smashing Pumpkins – Glass and the Ghost Children
9. Radiohead – Melatonin
10. Janis Joplin – Me and Bobby Mcgee
I’m 70% American, with two Radiohead tracks and Our Lady Peace holding me back. However, it really doesn’t get much more American than Bruce Springsteen and Janis Joplin.
And have you heard the new Sigur Ros Single? Its surprisingly upbeat.
I really like...
...the new Sigur Ros single, though the album as a whole isn’t grabbing me so far like their earlier efforts have.
Confounded cell phones....
So it’s obviously before noon, and here I am. I put my phone on silent because I knew the Girl wouldn’t be able to restrain herself from letting me sleep as late as I wanted, but unfortunately set it too close to my alarm clock and as soon as she called it did that “cell phone interference thing” where it makes anything with a speaker buzz, and thus woke me up. The best laid plans….
Anyway, here’s my completely tax free and totally American ten (by the way, them’s fightin’ words Nico).
1. Kiss – Calling Dr. Love
2. Flatt & Scruggs – the Martha White Theme
3. Hank Willams – (I’m Gonna) Sing, Sing, Sing
4. Kelly Willis – Happy With That
5. Charlie Rich – I Take it on Home
6. Agents of Good Roots – One Strange Land
7. Merle Haggard – Roly Poly
8. Muddy Waters – I Love the Life I Live, I Live the Life I Love
9. Ted Nugent – Free For All
10. Beck – Fourteen Rivers, Fourteen Floods

It doesn’t get more patriotic than opening with KISS.
My hangover 10
Last nights celebration at Mt. Rushmore was just as good, if not better, than last years! If it wasn’t for the dog waking me up this morning it would have been better.
1. Foo Fighters – Erase/Replace
2. Pearl Jam – Daughter
3. Grateful Dead – Dark Star(Short Version)
4. Aerosmith – Livin’ On The Edge
5. QOTSA – Gonna Leave You
6. Ben Folds Five – Your Redneck Past
7. The Doors – Love Her Madly
8. Beastie Boys – Paul Revere
9. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers – Breakdown
10. Heart - Magic Man
The Zune dealt me a strong American hand this morning, so have a great 4th and God bless.

" Hurry up and wait!"
hmm... Not sure how patriotic
any of these songs are except the Wilco song.
1. Neutral Milk Hotel – Holland, 1945
2. Bright Eyes – We are nowhere and it’s now
3. Mineral – Parking Lot
4. White Stripes – I’m slowly turning into you
5. Wilco – Ashes of American Flags
6. The Shins – Know your Onion
7. The Smashing Pumpkins – Galapogos
8. The Flaming Lips – What is the Light
9. Alien Ant Farm – Courage
10. Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies – Me and Julio (Jones) Down by the School Yard

I was sad when he left Astonishing X-Men.
