I predict 10-2

I know it sounds strange but MSU and possibly Georgia might take us. LSU didn’t beat us or Georgia, we beat us last year. Everything is riding on JPW and how well he has improved.

wow

thats gutsy. Ill go with 8-4. A solid building year for our SEC West title run next year!

I'm...

…more inclined to go this way myself. 8-4 is probably. 7-5 worst case scenario with 9-3 probably being best case scenario. I think we’re in for another year of close games probably.

by Nico2.0 on Aug 15, 2008 4:59 PM CDT up reply actions

9-3...

…should be attainable without a lot of difficulty while 10-2 could be reached with some EXTREMELY good luck. 8-4, so long as one of those four isn’t to Arkansas State, Tulane, or Western Kentucky, would also be acceptable. Just so long as we win the games we are favored in and put up a good fight in the ones we aren’t I’ll be happy.

by Todd on Aug 15, 2008 5:10 PM CDT up reply actions

I have a hard time thinking...

…9-3 is easily obtainable given questionable QB play in the past and that we don’t have a rock solid RB identified yet….not to mention the LB questions.

by Nico2.0 on Aug 15, 2008 5:27 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't know

which games we’ll win and which we’ll lose, but I predict we’ll have a big season. I have a really good feeling about this year. I know that means next to nothing, since I’ve probably had a good feeling the last five years, but I just can’t see us losing until it actually happens. I know that’s illogical and biased, but I think we’ll win them all.

So sue me.

LSU....

Hmm i think we beat them this year. If we do infact go 10-2 i believe the loses will be Clemson and UGA. Only because they come early in the season.

Don't take life to seriously, you'll never get out alive.

by bammer on Aug 16, 2008 7:22 AM CDT up reply actions

I think....

Alabama is going to surprise a lot of people this year. Looking back at last season Alabama could have easily gone to a BCS bowl game if we could have had just a few plays go our way. Every lost last season was 7 points or less. I think if the players buy into the system and play hard all year I can see a 10-2 regular season record. Losses to Clemson, and LSU. Worst case 8-4. We have a couple teams that run spread offense that concerns me like WKU, Ark, AU. If we can beat all of them, I think we will be in good shape. I think Bama can beat UGA , and I think ASU will be reason why Bama will beat them. I think ASU is going to wear out UGA the week prior. Close wins against MSU, Ole Miss and Tenn. I think this year’s team will resemble the 1999 team for some reason, but remember in 1999 we had the lose to LA Tech at Legion Field which sucked and still ended up being SEC champs.

by Geauxbama85 on Aug 15, 2008 6:59 PM CDT reply actions

99 and 05

this year is kind of reminding me of the 99 and 05 seasons. in both cases we have good senior leadership on O, and caught the breaks we didn’t catch the season prior. If andre smith isn’t the second comming of chris samuels then no one could ever be. Now will coffee have alexander type success? i doubt it, but he, Ingram and Grant could form a real effective combo. I predict 10 wins, wouldn’t be shocked though if we only win 8. any thing less is a disappointment. we should beat Clemson and Tennessee, Georgia LSU and Auby are the tough ones, and the games vs the mississippi schools are the “trap” games we could lose but shouldn’t. By the time we play Ark st, the freshmen will have experence, there will be no repeat of the ULM nightmare.

by tempebamafan on Aug 15, 2008 8:45 PM CDT reply actions

Ok here it is

Bama 24 Clemson 14
Bama 36 Tulane 10
Bama 49 W.Kentucky 6
Bama 17 Arkansas 14
Georgia 28 Bama 17
Bama 28 Kentucky 13
Bama 35 Ole Miss 14
Bama 21 Tenn 20
Bama 54 Ark St. 14
LSU 24 Bama 17
Bama 21 Miss St 10
Bama 21 Auburn 17

SEC Championship

Bama 28 UGA 24

Bowl Sugar

Virginia Tech 24 Bama 20

So there it is folks make all your plans accordingly I feel we can make a split on the road and chose Tenn and Arkansas as the two weakest we play on the road. Also feel we should win out at home. Auburn just does not impress me as in the past with their skill guys and our defensive backfield. So we should have advantage at home. Now i do believe that the truley only non winable game for us is Georgia thats because it is to early in the season. If this game came a little further down the road then maybe different. However I truley believe that if you look at our big games last year we were in them all. Realistically we can win this many games if all goes well with injuries and beating all teams we should.

You and me

are on the same wave length this morning. I agree with each and every game you have. You reading my mind or something?

by comer4tide on Aug 18, 2008 9:44 AM CDT up reply actions

I love...

…how optimistic you people are. I think we have as good a shot at the west as anyone else, but that’s only because the conference has truly become impossible to predict. Does anyone remember 2007? Who didn’t have a surprising win or loss?

And this year? 0-8 Ole Miss played almost everybody tough in 07 and now has a coach with a double-digit IQ. MSU will be a better team but won’t be able to sneak up on anybody. Does anybody want to guarantee that Arkansas won’t beat a single SEC team this year? Or that they will? Will Auburn be exposed or win it all? Will LSU need a QB who can do more than stay awake? Vandy has nothing…except heart and the most overlooked head coach in the conference. KY suddenly has no O but a nice D and the second-most overlooked head coach in the conference. SC has a nasty D and a nastier head coach. At UF, Jesus plays both QB and slot, but even they lost four last year and have had 74 knee injuries in fall camp. UGA lost their best OL-man on a still-young OL, and Mark Richt’s mini-butt cut has got to distract the team at some point. UT has a new QB, OC, and, apparently, lots and lots of doughnuts.

And us? Phil Steele points out that last season we could have just as easily been 13-0 as…3-10 (WTF, people?). Ergo, I will only make the following predictions for 08: (1) Bama will lose to somebody that will make us all very sad; (2) Bama will beat someone that will make us all very happy; (3) Ray Melick and Kevin Scarbinsky will still be trying to get Coach Saban to ask them to prom; (4) I will get very, very drunk due to either of the first two predictions, or both; (5) Terrence Cody will be both the irresistible force and the immovable object; (6) Julio Jones will save the world while simultaneously catching a game-winning TD, finishing his Math 109 homework, and texting his mom; (7) Rolando McClain will sack Neil Caudle after reattaching his own left index finger during a timeout; (8) John McCain will make water while making his acceptance speech, then go gentle into that good night to leave Alabama’s own Condi “I’ll say whatever you want” Rice the presidency; (9) gas prices and a worsening economy will have us all consuming wild turkey and Wild Turkey for Thanksgiving; (10) Tuberville will try to hold up seven fingers, but be blocked by his own ears and Nick Saban’s defense. RT, B!

rough start, but we'll actually have a great november

i dont know about ya’ll, but im tired of us falling apart at the end of the season. so far, in camp we’ve been blessed to be free of serious injuries, that seem to be an epidemic across the entire collegefootball nation. if we stay healthy, look for us to progress and not regress as the season goes on. i honestly think we’ll be 10-2, but it definately wont look that way to start. i think we will loose, though i hate to say it, to clemson, and the georgia, starting out at a scary 3-2. but, after the uga game, i think we’ll win the rest, all of our talented freshman will become seasoned in about half a season because the sec is so tough-just like kareem jackson and rolando mclain did last yr. here are also a few reasons why my predictions could be wrong, but not necisarily changing my predicted 10-2 finish:

1. uga plays AT south car, and AT az st, before playing us. that would wear anyone out, meaning we could slip in and beat them.
2. now for bad news, ole miss, really really scares me. the past three games we’ve beaten them by a combined 9 points, and the games were all decided on the last play. now, we get them at home, but im kinda tempted to jump on the jeaven snead is good bandwagon, and houston nutt, is at least a creative coach, and while inconsistant, can pretty much beat anyone.
3.the big game we are most likely to win i think will actually be lsu. ya its in death valley, but i think saban and the players will be pumped, and i agree that we beat ourselves last yr in that game, and some harvard transfer wont do the damage that matt flynn could.
4.game that could be surprisingly close-kentuky
5.game that could be a surprising blowout-arkansas.
bowl game projection: bcs at best obviously, but any news yrs bowl would be likley, as well as satisfying this year, hopefully outback or capitol one, im frankly tired of playin big 12 teams in bowls 3 of the past 4 bowl games

by bamafaninminnesota on Aug 17, 2008 8:14 PM CDT reply actions

Ole Miss

They kind of scare me too. I think Ole Miss is going to be major surprise this year.

by Geauxbama85 on Aug 18, 2008 12:06 AM CDT reply actions

I guess ill be the voice of reason

But i think we are getting big heads here guys. We all know this will not be THE year. Probably not even ‘09 (new QB). I belive in 2010 we will be ranked in the top 8 and if not play in the NC game win the SEC and finish in the top 5. BUT it won’t be this year. So here is my prediction. I already said we would go 8-4 but here is how i see it unfolding..

8-4 with loses to:
Clemson
Tennessee
LSU
UGA

Wins over:
Auburn
Ole Miss
Ark
UK
Ark State
W. Kentucky
Tulane
Miss State

We might pull out a win over LSU and UT. NO that doesn’t mean we go 10-2. I think this young D (linebackers) and our running game will lose us 2 game we should have won. So instead of losing to LSU or UT put the Barn, Ole Miss, or even a UK in there.

Regardless of who we loose to we will end up 8-4 in 08. 10-2 next year and 11-2 in 2010.

Was just about to post

the exact same results, with another prediction involving Saban putting Tubs in a triangle choke at the end of the Iron Bowl and none of AU’s players jumping in to help because Tubs only recruits “character” guys and any physical altercation is out of the question with that group of stand-up citizens…

But all that to say I agree with you, Bammer, it will be a season that “the process” can build off of.

a loss to Tennessee?

why? from most of what I’ve read and from the feeble to moderate prognostication skills i’ve got, people think UT will not be as successful this season as last year. New QB and OC, yes they return berry on D and a RB, but thats about it. I don’t see UT improving enough this year to close the 24 point gap we laid on them last season.

thats true

but they laid an ass whoppin on UGA!

I still believe that

if we win in ATL in the spotlight over the #9 team in the country, we will spring board off that and roll. I just have a gut feeling about these boys, too many years of false hopes and let downs. I just dont see this year being an 8-4 record. I see us loosing to LSwho and UGA, but beating UT, Barn, and Clemson. Im sticking to my guns and saying a rematch with UGA in ATL and possibly a rematch with Clemson in the Peach Bowl if we loose the Champ game. Our D may be young, but they have a swagger, the entire team does. Julio Jones, Star Jackson, and many other true freshmen coming in and not to mention it is the top recruit class in the country. We will walk into every game with a chip on the shoulder attitude and a swagger and will be tough to beat. Just adding the top recruits to a program that 2 years ago sucked major donkey (you know what) and 4 coachs in one tenyear for a senior class and everything we have been through as fans, supporters. I truely think this team will surpass all expectations.

by comer4tide on Aug 18, 2008 11:13 AM CDT reply actions

well

like i said, i hope im wrong and you are right. The reason for my lack of faith is not due to talent. We have that. Its depth. If we are starting true freshman at LB, then what does that say about our backups. We still have concerns at Safety and JPW is still a question (though that throw to Julio makes me all giddy inside). But ill agree with you on this point.

If we indeed beat Clemson. That will give us a confidence to beat any team we face. That win alone could propel this team into a 10 win season. BUT a bad loss to Clemson could do the opposite.

Don't take life to seriously, you'll never get out alive.

by bammer on Aug 18, 2008 11:25 AM CDT up reply actions

Regardless of the outcome...

I don’t think the Clemson game will have an impact on the rest of the season. Winning huge, I feel, would be the only carry over this game would have. We play WKU and Tulane in the weeks following Clemson, so any emotions carried over from the Clemson game (win or lose) will be “coached” out of Bama and be 3 weeks removed by the time we play Ark, whick is always a close games, so we can’t have our head in the cloud for that one, Saban will make sure of this.

"There's a lot of blood, sweat, and guts between dreams and success" - Coach Bryant

by TopDaddy on Aug 18, 2008 11:45 AM CDT up reply actions

Agreed. I think we'll beat Clemson

but if we dont, we have Tulane and WKU the following weeks. Saban will use those games to get the true freshmen ready for the SEC. I’m predicting Arky to be in total disarray and for BAMA to crush them like Putin does journalists. Georgia, even with significant injuries on both fronts, will be a solid team no matter what, and I dont see BAMA escaping thens with a W unless we have big plays on special teams and in the passing game. Meaning three TD’s we wouldn’t have otherwise gotten. After Georgia it’s back to teams we should beat through the BYE week. after the BYE week, our true’s should be battle tested and the UT game should be a W, while the LSU and AUBY games should be close, with us getting a split, if not 2 W’s.

by tempebamafan on Aug 18, 2008 1:40 PM CDT up reply actions

that said

we could drop 4 games. but i’m thinking we’ll only lose 2 this regular season, and we’ll play in the SECCG and a new years day bowl.

by tempebamafan on Aug 18, 2008 1:42 PM CDT up reply actions

Yah know

I think a lot of people are sleeping on UT. As much as i hate to say they have a chance to be really good. I still believe we win that game but im not going to count them out.

I am willing to bet

UT has this schedule results. Only living 100ish miles from that hell hole i hear alot of what goes on up there and its all people talk about here in the area. All of them are worried sick about Fat Phil having a heart attack this season and this new “offense” they will instill. One of my office girls ordered those game schedule calander things for UT and Bama and i have the UT one blown up with these predictions right on the Outside of my Office door! here they are

@UCLA L
UAB W
UF L
@BARN L
NIU W
@UGA L
MISS ST W
BAMA L (phil has his heart attack after this game)
@USC W
WYOMING W
@VANDY W
UK W

GRAND TOTAL 7-5 MUSIC CITY BOWL.

I have had this discussion with some true redneck hardcore ut fans and they agree on all of the losses except the BAMA one. they think they will win that game.

by comer4tide on Aug 18, 2008 2:38 PM CDT up reply actions

hmm

i see them betting both UCLA and the Barn.

UCLA will have a 3rd string QB starting
The Barn- still breaking in the spread

That puts them at 9-3….not bad

WOW!

i love how optimistic everyone is, i thought when i posted this that most people would say 8-4 or 9-3 like i did,but it seams like there are alot of people saying bama will go 10-2! trust me i would love that more than anyone but i just dont think bama will go 10-2,although i do think that bama will beat clemson i also think that tennessee will be a hard game for us to win mainly because its going to be in knoxville, but i hope i am wrong and we do go 10-2!!!

We will go 10-4 (Damn you, Bob Stoops!). Or 6-6 (Damn you, Casey Dick!). Yeah, one of those two.
