Thank you.

Thank you! Thank You! Thank you! I have been fighting the urge to join TideTV to watch that catch. WOW!.

Auburn fans are like slinkys... not really good for anything but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

I'm always of two minds about this type of thing...

1) I’m glad our receiver can be that awesome, but
2) I hate seeing a DB blow a tackle and then see another one get stiff armed by a receiver.

by Nico2.0 on Aug 18, 2008 10:54 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

That is Marquis Johnson getting burnt for the TD (no surprise), and Rashad Johnson getting the stiff arm.

Is that Wilson???

Great play by Julio, no doubt, but dig JP throwing a bullet over the outside shoulder 35-40 yards downfield! I’ll take more of that, please.

I simply cannot stop...

….watching this play. It’s hypnotizing.

by Todd on Aug 18, 2008 11:43 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Julio

Is it fair to say he is the best WR on the roster right now? I really cannot think of anyone else who shows the same speed and strength that Julio can show. I understand there is more to being a WR than just that, but I really think its safe to say he is going to be the #1 WR.

by Kenny483 on Aug 18, 2008 11:55 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

McCoy...

…and Hanks have shown that they can make some great grabs so I’d put them up against Julio. McCoy especially, he’s got good size and speed and works his ass off. I also think Gibson and Maze can be as good but still need some development.

by Todd on Aug 18, 2008 12:05 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Let's not forget...

…Nikita Stover, Earl Alexander, and B.J. Scott. And as you know, the tight ends and possibly even more so the running backs will be on the receiving end of many passes this year. The bottom line is that we are going to spread the ball around and get a lot of people involved, not throw the ball up for grabs a lot for one primary receiver who may be triple-covered (not that I’m thinking of anyone in particular). This should not only make it tougher for defenses to key on one individual or area, it should also encourage all our receivers to give better efforts on all routes, not just the ones where they expect to get the ball (not that I’m thinking of any one or two people in particular), since theoretically they should all expect to get the ball.

Just writing this is getting me yet more eager to see us play. As I’ve stated elsewhere, I won’t make predictions about wins and losses, but we will be a better football team. The amazing Julio Jones is just one of many reasons why. Roll Tide.

It's just one catch.........

And one catch don’t make the season, BUT I feel there will be MANY more! (Pray for JPW and accuracy in the same breath.)

awesome!

Looks good!!! I can’t wait him to play “in real life.”

obviously, that was supposed to be “I can’t wait TO SEE him play in real life”

by bamacheryl on Aug 18, 2008 1:03 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

That looks good....

I have to say, that if JPW steps it up this year, then Bama could have a very potent offense.

Any way

you guys at RBR could permanently set that video up in the “settin’ the mood” spot until the season starts? I’m thinking the mood got JUST right!

Aiight, now...

…y’all have got to do this. That post keeps slippin’ on down the homepage (thanks a lot, OTS), and there’s nothing like clicking on RBR and seeing Julio work his magic over and over again, not to mention seeing JP make a nice play. So…pretty please?

by NiceLittleSaturday on Aug 19, 2008 12:18 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I just couldn't be a head coach...

because all though I see an amazing throw and catch, I see many more people to cuss out:
I don’t know the blocking scheme, but WHY THE CRAP is there someone pressuring JPW so quickly on a roll out? It was a great pass, but we cannot have broken coverages this season, not with this schedule. And make freaking tackle, you have two feet that you have to push him before he goes out of bounds…

Like I said, I probably couldn’t see the good through the bad most of the time.

I do, however

find it pretty impressive that he had the presence of mind to keep his knee off the ground until he got in the endzone. Most people would be down at the 2, and in the “Jumbo Package” days, that was the difference between winning and losing the game. No telling how many times we were 1st and goal inside the 5 and had to settle for a FG in Shula’s tenure.

Ya know

Rashad is going to get ragged for that one. No freshman should be able to do that to a senior. No way no how!

And Marquis Johnson was beat

from the time the play (or video) started, and it almost looks like Johnson and Johnson were on him in double coverage. I hope this just means that Julio is an absolute freak of nature…

Give Rashad credit...

…he kept his feet after the stiff arm and still made the tackle. If they weren’t so close to the goal line it would have been at least a save for the time being. A lot of safeties would have hit the ground after that stiff arm, but he kept his head on straight and kept after the receiver. That’s what Saban is talking about when he keeps carrying on about “finishing plays.”

by Todd on Aug 18, 2008 4:05 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree with Top Daddy

A+ to Julio for the catch and run
A+ to JPW for the off balance over the shoulder throw
C- to the offensive line
C- to the secondary

Beautiful...

…throw, catch, stiff arm, and TD. And I am slow to criticize the OL and the defense. We’re not watching the play from the snap, so I can’t be sure, but it looks like a few things have happened before the camera starts rolling. There appear to be at least two players behind Wilson at this point. Was it a busted play? Is Wilson improvising at this point instead of executing a designed roll out? Also, I think he is being chased by Brandon Fanney, whom I would expect to be lined up on the other side of the field. Again, I don’t know, but it should take a few seconds to reach the QB on the run on this side if you start lined up at the Jack, right? One last thing, the defender who shows up at the end appears to be #37 Robert Lester, a true freshman. It doesn’t appear to be his assignment, but his presence on the field (and #24s for that matter) seem to indicate that we’ve got a few 2nd or 3rd tier guys out there with the #1s. It doesn’t excuse the mistakes we do see — JP running for his life, Marquis playing poor coverage, Rashad getting negated by the (freakin’ awesome) stiff arm, but it might help explain some of the bad.

If you’ve got answers, fire away, I’m no rocket surgeon. And still, what you see from Wilson — and especially Jones — has to make you feel good. Real good. Matter of fact, I’ve gotta go watch that again. See ya.

I think

It is Julio’s ability to keep his balance and both feet in bounds when RJ hit im the first time that is the most impressive. Very nice awareness and adjustment on the pass as well.

Last year,

I predicted that JPW would be the best QB in the West. I hope I was 2 years off, and not 1.
