What I'm Watching on Saturday
It's been a pretty fun week of CFB already. Kansas State and Louisville on Wednesday, an overtime game in Boulder last night and who isn't completely amped up for Baylor at UCONN tonight....or something....Anyway, here's what I'm tuning into and/or attending on Saturday:
Alabama at Arkansas (11:30 AM - Raycom/Gameplan): I don't think this one really needs any explanation.
Florida at Tennessee (2:30 PM - CBS): Hopefully Phil & Co. will lose their fourth in a row to the Gators. I'll be watching this one on DVR because I'm going to to to...
Alabama State at UAB (3:00 PM - N/A): UAB is 0-2 all-time against Alabama State, but in fairness to the Blazers, it was while they were still a I-AA team and occurred in the 4th and 5th years of the programs existence. Revenge game!
LSU at Auburn (6:45 PM - ESPN): The game between our two main rivals in the West is always a contest to watch just to see what we'll be up against later in the year.
Georgia at Arizona State (7:00 PM - ABC): Go ahead and get your "previous channel" button set up for this one as I imagine we'll all be flipping back and forth between this one and the aforementioned SEC West showdown.

Definitely a...
strong lineup, Nico – minus the UAB game, but I can appreciate you tuning into that one. What’s the line there?
I’m teed up for this game and really hoping BAMA puts on a show, so the national media (and the tool that is Kevin Scarbinsky) starts giving us credit. I know they don’t owe us anything at this stage, but I’d really like to see such a dominating performance that it solidifies our standing in the AP’s Top 10 and boosts us in the USA Today Poll. Prediction: Alabama 34 Arkansas 10. Roll Tide!

I think UAB forever screwed themselves....
when they decided that Alabama was their enemy. Whining about UA’s logo being visible at Legion Field (UAB’s ‘house’ or whatever) was terrible PR on their part. UAB should market to the AU or UA fan that doesn’t get to attend their teams games, but instead have alienated them.
Meanwhile, S. FL and Central FL have lapped UAB a thousand times, and when South Alabama starts playing, I predict they’ll out-draw UAB as well.

UCF and USF
UCF and USF aren’t the best comparisons to make.
Florida has a population of over 18 million. Alabama’s is at 4.5 million.
For argument’s sake, If you assume that the 4 D1 schools can legitimately go after the same players, then the population base is about 1.1 million people per school in Alabama. In Florida, the population base is 3.6 million per D1 school. Their chances of success are naturally greater than UAB’s right off the bat because of local population alone. Doesn’t even take into account things like weather, location, etc.

I concur...
…that alienating Alabama fans was a bad move on UAB’s part from a PR standpoint, but I do, however, think UAB fans have a legit gripe over the screwing of Jimbo Fisher by the UA BOT. As a UAB grad that actually wants success for the Blazer football program, that pisses me off. Other than that, though, it get tiresome hearing the idiotic “bammers” remarks at UAB games. They’re worse than the boogs about being obsessed with Alabama football (I suppose you can say UAB fans have a “littlest” brother syndrome when it comes to the Tide).
