Snarkastic: I got dumped over the Auburn game.*
I've always said the Joel is the Tennessee fan that I like, because I can only like just one (similarly Jerry is the Auburn fan I like and Richard is the LSU fan I tolerate), but I'm ready to make an exception to the rules here and proclaim Holly as the other UT fan that I like, if only because you have to tip your hat to anyone that would end a relationship to watch a single game of college football and not feel the least bit sorry about it. You, madam, are now on the list of "Todd's Heroes that Probably Wish They Weren't."

we are really not worthy of the greatness holly possesses. but her point is a valid one for us all. because if a significant other can’t understand the ties of family and tradition wrapped up in southern football they probably aren’t really that significant. your allegiance to your kinfolk and your team was around a long time before any given relationship and will likely be there long afterward.
but, damn, i wish they put a beating on the barners.

That's the problem with California...
You’re going to meet more guys that just don’t really care about sports in general OR they’re more professional sports fans rather than college sports fan. Sounds like he’s missing out though, how could you not enjoy being with a girl that loves college football?!?! Dude, that’s just crazy.
Maybe she’ll meet a dude that’s more partial to her college football requirements.

I don't know why...
…all you “guys” seem to find this so amazing. I would have done the same thing in a New York minute. I am waaay more intense about Alabama football than most I’ve dated. It’s sort of like the old saying “love me, love my dog”, but insert “love me, love the Crimson Tide”.
Todd, I like Joel of RTT too, but Holly does not get a pass from me because of the pics she chose for “Stuff Crimson and White People Like”, especially Bear. I’m glad she’s feeling great pain after her trip to the game between the pumpkins and the spread eagles.

well, bamavicki, i certainly understand you taking issue with the art in that post (although it seems well within the bounds of satire in my estimation) but i would suggest you’ve missed the point of her piece on this breakup. what the post expresses is that she does have her priorities straight and that she isn’t in great pain.
or as she put it herself in the comments:
Just a goshdamn second. Does this read like a cry for help? I drove back up last night, shotgunned a bottle of water, showered, wrote that, and fell asleep shortly after nesting.* I am feeling no pain that’s not directly related to University of Tennessee quarterbacking prowess.
i particularly liked this post because it’s less about college football than the nature of relationships themselves. sure holly is being stubborn and sticking to her guns but that’s in the face of an ultimatum over something she cares deeply about. and that’s laudable not just because it happens to be this wonderful diversion we all share an affinity for. or as one of her commenters wisely noted.
And while I believe relationships by nature are filled with compromise, if someone does not understand what the other will not budge on… well. There will be little middle for other things.
and that’s a true a point as i’ve ever seen expressed on the internets.

For heaven's sake, kleph...
…the pain I’m referring to is the big L the Viles suffered and the horribleness of their team. I didn’t give a thought to the guy and neither did she. Of course I got the point. Did I not say I would do the same thing at the beginning of my post? As far as satire goes, there are some things I consider sacrilege. I take great issue with that pic that’s supposed to be Bear and I’m not budging on that. It’s beyond poor taste.

well, she admits the qb situation has pretty much driven her to tears so it seems you got your wish on that point. and while i don’t agree with you about that image – i completely understand your dislike of it and respect that.

I wondered about that...
…comment too, Richard. You always seem to be 3rd on our lists, but you’re getting mentioned, so I guess that’s something. lol

Just a dig at LSU fans...
…since I can’t bring myself to admit actually liking one. You’re okay in my book.

What is the matter with you?
It’s MUCH worse to acknowledge that you like a Vol or Barn fan than an LSU one.

Thank you kindly.

Completely, entirely correct. Which is what I get for leaving The South, obvs. Civilization isn’t measured in skyscrapers.
Thanks for the love, Todd. Looking forward to Third(ish) Saturday as always…though obviously with the terror dial jacked way up this year. Y’all look scary good.
