Around SBN: Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e Stoudemire Vow To Fit In With Lin

It took almost two years, but finally Kerry Murphy has officially qualified and is enrolled at The University of Alabama.

This is pretty big news, to put it mildly. Murphy has to maintain the academic standards required going forth, and he will have to work his way back into football shape, but there is no question regarding his physical ability. He could have went to any program in the country, and he was easily one of the best prospects in the nation in the 2007 recruiting class. If he can keep his academics together, and get back in prime playing shape -- which I highly doubt will be an issue with Saban's notoriously demanding S&C program -- then this young man could be an absolute beast for the Crimson Tide on the interior defensive line.

Huge

This is huge news. Murphy may be as good as any commitment we get from here till Signing Day, with the notable exception of Kirkpatrick or Randle. He was the number 4 ranked prep school player last year, and was the number 4 DT when he came out of high school. Murphy was ahead of guys like Luther Davis, Alfred McCullough, Nick Gentry and Josh Chapman out of high school, all guys who have had significant roles already at Alabama.

The news has been apparently pretty good out of his prep school year. He apparently lost weight, and seems like a good shot to stay at defensive tackle, as opposed to moving to offensive guard. The best news of all is that he has all of his years of eligibility left to play at Alabama. I will say it again, I am not sure that there will be more than one or two players that we will get from here till Sigining Day that have more potential than Murphy.

Also, as an aside congratulations to Murphy. I am sure it had to be very trying over the last few years trying to get eligible. Welcome to Alabama!

OTS

just curious when you talk about getting back into football shape, did he not play at all last year?

Yes

He did play last year, but it was at a prep school. Admittedly, Hargrave is better than your usual prep school as far as football goes, but it is a huge step from Hargrave to the SEC. Hargrave usually plays other acadamies, and JV university squads. The one good news is that there have been some reports of Murphy getting into better shape.

Glad to hear that.

Can’t wait until A-day.

Actually...

Murphy did not play football last year. He played at Hargrave in 2007, but this past season he was at home working on correspondence courses trying to get admitted to Alabama.

Could someone...

remind me of the particulars about Mr. Murphy. Size, speed, etc.

Well, are you gonna pull them pistols, or whistle dixie?

6'5'' 325lbs

is what he is listed at but, don’t know how up to date that is.

Auburn fans are like slinkys... not really good for anything but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

Good

With Terrence Cody and Josh Chapman coming back he probably won’t see much playing time in 2009. He’ll have to keep his grades up for two years to fulfill his potential on the team and have a chance at the NFL.

Another beast

You just can’t have too many beasts these days. Surely we have somewhere to put him right away?

Fluker, Carpenter, Warmack, Ming....

I

believe so. A foreign concept to us all.

yeah

hearing the word depth in relation to Alabama football is like trying to understand gaelic!!

When you are an Alabama fan you are expected to hate Auburn, I hate Tennessee because I want to.
